np, I hope it was interesting. I have a very love hate relationship with genesys. Ultimately I do still enjoy the dice and how they work but there's just so much that frustrates me. As I've been looking around for other systems my favorite so far has been savage worlds, I like how a lot of its systems work, I find its much easier to homebrew or modify, and quite frankly it hasn't been fucked over by its publisher so there's not just enough content there is a crazy amount of it for a variety of settings.
Even with that though there's still just something about how advantage and threat work alongside success and failure with the genesys dice that's really nice and isn't really replicated in any system besides one I found called spiral. As much as I've come to hate it I'd even still recommend genesys or star wars FFG just to try the dice, and I get rather annoyed every time I see someone snub the system because "Le proprietary dice" like motherfucker have you considered for even a second that the abnormal dice actually add something of value to the system and aren't just there to make you buy new ones.

Afternoon

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

It started as the northernmost Greek colony on the Italian mainland, and the Greeks didn't care about large navigable rivers near their settlements, they generally just wanted a sheltered port on the coast, some farmland and a few springs nearby, and would let the landlubbers do any of the possible overland trading. Shipping by sea, for example grain from Crimea to Athens or Corinthian pottery from the Greek mainland to Etruria, was cheap over massive distances.
The freshwater situation in Naples was so shitty the Greek colonists already in the 5th century BC constructed the 10 km long Bolla Aqueduct, partially running underground, to supply the city from a marshy aquifer area on the foothills of Mt Vesuvius. Sebeto was the only river of any importance flowing nearby.

Think I finally nailed my units of length
Base unit is a foot.
There are 5 feet in a standardized pace. 3 in a step. Used in the same context of yard. So something is such and such paces away. Or two paces long. etc.
The hole is 3 steps deep. The stone slid 4 steps to the left. etc.
Strides are 4000 feet. Based on the average distance someone can walk in the wilds in one hour. So its not uncommon phasing to describe directions as being a hours stride north west, or 2 and a half hours stride east.
It is around the middle distance between a mile and a kilometer and used in the setting's context in a similar way.
So a person used to miles can think of strides as similar to miles in their head. While someone used to kilometers will think of strides similar to kilometers.

Anything smaller I use comparisons or fractions rather than smaller standardized units.
I doubt I will meaningfully need larger units so those too can be handled with comparisons to get scale across.
>>
>>97784855
Quick question - is there any fantasy or urban fantasy equivalent to the Space Marines? They're made by implanting various extra organs with some genetic modification from the geneseed. I can't think of anything else quite like that in other settings.
>>
>>97818348
Oh wow.
Just thought of a secondary measurement system for one of the particular people groups. Because it wouldn't make sense for them to use such a human eccentric measurement standard even in their own settlements.

So in my setting the Guyin people use Yins as their length measurement system.
One Yin just so happens to be exactly one meter.
Can add prefixes to yins to go up and down in scale similar to meters. centimeter/centiyin, kilometer/kiloyin etc.

So the foot based system is called the Walker system of standardized measurements, also known as the Walker System (WS for short). The yin based system is simply called the Guyin standard (GS).

Witchers.

>mimimi, humans don't have their own feature, mimimi, we have to invent something
Necromancy right here. When was the last time you saw non-human necromancer, lich or vampire? That's right, they practically don't exist because other races are simply inferior when it comes to necromancy and those non-human undead are so pathetic that everyone forgets about their existence in 5 minutes . Except for that one orc, but even he understood that he was worthless and therefore got himself a human body to finally become a full-fledged lich. So yes, here is your feature humans - necromancy, you know that I am right, you can't run away from the truth forever.

Warhammer Fantasy, where dark elves used necromancy to keep the souls of dead slaves working, simply out of spite.

He probably means settings that didn't flop so hard they got taken out back and shot.

Yeah, Warhammer Fantasy, which still exists unlike AoS who's about to watch the Old Yeller movie.
Oh, also Eldar in 40k put the philacteries of their dead people into mechas so that kinda counts.

But we if we include Hogwarts Legacy characters then we have Sir Ryan as an example of a trans character. So it's not as if JKR is against letting troons into her IP. Honestly, at this point worc would be able to check every DEI box without needing to invent new characters or change existing characters. Hell, the main villain is a white man leading a race supremacist group. You'd think wotc would love to get their hands on Harry Potter.

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG by R. Talsorian Games, set in a (then) future inspired by film noir and the dark science fiction films and books of the late 20th century. It focuses on simulationist gameplay and lethal near-future combat.

Cyberpunk RED is the latest edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG, set after the devastating Fourth Corporate War. It focuses on more balanced, streamlined gameplay and is currently supported by R. Talsorian Games.

I thought Biotechnica can only bring back small extinct animals like rabbits and birds. Anything bigger like a bear or a dinosaur is probably beyond their current ability.
>>
>>97818298
The pet dlc shows they can bring back bears and bigger creatures just fine
>>
>>97818298
>>97818308
One of the adventures has a corpo with a pet lion or tiger that has a few neurons twisted in its brain to be a guard animal. I forgot if it was in 2020 or RED but Biotechnica has the capacity to do so if they can do all that. Especially that 2020 pet list that has underwater creatures too.

half the problem with DGD is that it existed to sell bad miniatures so at least we won't have that. in general it seems like the twee is going to be more contained, and they're using the wider region to zone off different tones. It seems like the island will be the most twee part. we will see

If a player generates a portrait or the GM generates some one-off NPC with imagen software, I don't give a fuck. I go into fuck debt if they actually set up a local stable diffusion thing and customed tuned their shit. Disposable material is wholly acceptable. No one should have to pay for a comm just to have a visual representation of their character.

If the GM is generating the entire campaign and doing rules look-ups with AI and not actually writing or creating anything, they should be removed from the GM seat and then beaten over the head with said seat.

They already summarized all of the changes and they're a lot less than what's been changed between Compendium and now. They didn't remove an entire phase of the game, for one.
Although honestly, I don't know anyone who is actually going to use this new core book thing since it only has the BSP rules for non-mechs. Everyone's going to wait for the actual full rules.

Oh no, at 10,000 you would never be able to bring more than a Star. A Kit Fox with a green pilot (3/4) is something in the range of 1500. Five Kit Foxes will of course effortlessly crush a Freebirth assault lance, but this is to my point: Not a whole lot of miniatures. Elementals, maybe, you could round it out with Elementals.

just take a companion on the prisoner pathway, make them reach sequence 0, and they can just give you the sefirot and make it accommodate you using their authority over it
>>
>>97818250
not really
I mean those western continent chuds in the 5th epoch were all using sefirots wily nily, and I'd bet none of them are sequence 0
even a sequence 9 like klein could use a sefirot
if you get to sequence 1 of the moon or mother, you can probably command enough authority in the brood hive to satisfy the advancement to moon, and if it doesn't count, advancement ingenuity got me

>I mean those western continent chuds in the 5th epoch were all using sefirots wily nily, and I'd bet none of them are sequence 0
They weren't accomodating anything, they were dao integrators, used boons
>even a sequence 9 like klein could use a sefirot
He controlled it, thanks to CW's influence, not accomodated it
>if you get to sequence 1 of the moon or mother, you can probably command enough authority in the brood hive to satisfy the advancement to moon,
Yes, I planned to use it to be reborn from it while a KoA, as that would make me a part of it, satisfying the requirements, I wasn't saying it was impossible, just that trying to straoght-up accomodate it might be a risky idea (on the other hand with the help of the dao integrators might go better).

Prostitution is the oldest profession. It has always existed and it will always exist. The presence of prostitutes and brothels is crucial for making a game setting and world feel realistic and lived in. Otherwise, it will lack all verisimilitude. Well yeah, I imagine most women back in ye olde tymes didn't want a bunch of foreign, unwashed, and potentially diseased [ugly bastard] dicks in them.
It isn't like today where the promise of STD treatments and abortions make women feel better about spreading for money, but the smart ones have figured out they only have to do that with a couple guys, have the babies, then extort alimony forever while also getting paid on Twitch and OnlyFans.

The youtuber has infinite avenues for new content. Your shitty module isn't special and isn't deserving of free promotion and advertising just because you mistakenly believe you are doing everyone else a favor.

Modules are cheap and plentiful. The hobby is built around making your own shit. Someone sending you their module isn't a favor, but unpaid work to promote some faggot too poor and too stupid to know that they aren't entitled to other people's time and effort.

Besides, if it's so fucking easy, just make your own youtube channel and promote your own content. Clearly you don't value the labor of others, so why not just do it yourself?
