I need a new GOOD fantasy race to base a campaign region around.

The day when i can respond to this with either a list of pokemon or digimon, either one, is incredibly close. you have no idea.

Literally just need either one to give me a proper shark girl (yes it's bipedal, yes it's nominally a shark, no i'm not counting garchomp. that is 1. a bulette and 2. not waifu coded.)

Pathfinder has some fucking wild races. My favorite that I know of are the shards of cosmic intelligence given form which need to grow a plant exoskeleton to move around and interact with the physical world. There are probably weirder ones too. I know you can play a straight up digital robot. Not a magical construct, actual boston dynamics tier robot in your fantasy rpg.

So you're a furry, but not so furry you'll fuck a garchomp.

Foul Spawn/Hell Spawn are an interesting monster race given that they have multiple forms similar to insect races, but they have no societal structure and their forms are randomly determined rather than inherited. A race originally created by blood magic which then proliferated beyond its creators is a surprisingly underexplored concept in fantasy (mostly due to moral implications), given that Tolkien's Orcs are analogous to that concept.

Dunno how you came up with that. Ravenloft was created because Weis & Hickman wanted to do Gothic Horror stuff, and the setting was created because the original two modules did really well and 2e-TSR wanted money from setting lines.

not him but
>since the entrenchment of what counts as "real" 40k has gotten REALLY bad
That could have been an issue with oldfags as well, as we see any time pre vs post rift shows up as a discussion in this thread.
>>
>>97391608
Nah bro, I swear it was never this bad a few years ago. People treat using Gathering Storm as a deadly attack against them now. You could post something like
>Calixis is in Imperium Nihilus
and you'd get
>Oh damn, thoughts and prayers, hope they're okay
but now, you get what you see. One of my players is die-hard pre-rift, and we rib the shit out of each other, but it never gets to the level of visceral hatred.
>>
>>97391359
>>97391608
Welcome to the curse of the normalfag. The average normalfag is an isolated, atomized, neurotic wreck, who has tied his identity to a brand in lieu of a social group or religion. Thus, an attack on the brand is an attack on the normalfag, and he will respond violently. Even worse, many of these normalfags got into the hobby during the rona, and don't even play the game, they just watch AI videos and read books. So now the grogs are seeing their game change to what they think is an appeal to the normalfags, and they lash out, and the normalfags see their brand as under attack, so they lash back, and it becomes a shitshow all around.
>>
I get why people hate gathering storm since it deletes entire settings of the FFG books.
>>
>>97391846
It clearly doesn't because the Owlcat 40krpg games are set post rift. The only one that's iffy is Deathwatch.

I doubt it's the baldness that was causing that problem. Judging from Bing's idiosyncrasies in parsing prompts about a character's pose/gestures (and the Dall-E 3 model having been trained on a lot of lewd content), my bet is that whatever language you used to have her rubbing her bald head was getting misinterpreted to have her groping herself in a way that attracted the dog's attention.

I think it was more trying to get her midriff there under the tied up blouse. Also, I had originally called it "loose" so that would have likely messed with it with the earlier posing of her kneeling on the ground in sadness. I think the kneeling may have done it. I remember having issues trying to get her kneeling in prayer. Bing seems to think any girl kneeling is getting ready to suck something. The rubbing the head didn't come until later in the prompting and actually helped tone down the dogs.

>I was under the impression that anything from 7 to 9 is a success anyway, are lower rolls always better?
On a normal roll, 7-9 is one success and 10 is two successes, which is to say that by default 10s are doubled. Having double 9s means that rolling a 9 or 10 counts as two successes, double 8s means that rolling 8s through to 10s counts as two successes, and double 7s means that rolling 7 through to 10 counts as two successes each.

By default, if you roll ten dice and score one of each number 1-10, you score five successes (7 8 9 = 3, 10 = 5). If you have double 7s you would score eight successes. This is also about how the averages work, so if you're assigning difficulties to an action keep in mind that by default it takes someone with twice the number of dice as the Difficulty to succeed about 60% of the time. Six dice is likely to meet Difficulty 3, ten dice has about a 60% chance of meeting Difficulty 5, and so on. With double 7s those same six dice are likely to meet Difficulty 5, and ten dice are likely to beat Difficulty 7.

How would you even know there are rules if you hadn't already looked at them yourself?
>>
>>97390861
Agreeing with this guy. The first thing that comes to my mind is that people with experience in other games can get precious about their characters and it takes a bit of experience as a GM to get past that hump, especially as clones might not even survive the mission briefing if everything goes as it should. The second thing is that Paranoia missions can go off the rails very fast, not in the "this module is a railroad" sense, in the unexpected and chaotic sense so you'd have to be comfortable with the rules and improvising.

I did look at the rules. I'm allowed to.

Mentzer Basic D&D
Fuck the HYTNPD&D crowd and fuck the Moldvay is better/Mentzer isn't even D&D crowd.
Mentzer has one of the best tutorials for a RPG so you can pick it up fast. It's core is nearly identical to all other forms of D&D through to 1999 and once you learn one you can pick up the others and adapt freely. You don't have to worry about that mystery stuff , especially at lower levels if you want to just dungeon crawl that's fine. You can use it for years. It expands nicely into domain play at higher levels if you want. Just be careful it anyone wants to play thief. Thieves do advance in skills a bit slowly, Mentzer himself came up with a better way years later and it would be worth looking that up. Don't even look at the Immortal rules.

It's a matter of opinion. There are a lot of gamers who are risk-averse and try to optimise the risk out of every scenario, which you simply can't do with Hunger. Every rouse check is a fifty-fifty, simple as. The only way to optimise the risk out of the Hunger is to minimise the number of rouse checks, in which case you're barely playing a vampire at all.

It's a mechanic that works best for people who are comfortable with risk and adapting to whatever the situation is and making a story out of it. As /tg/ has always been home to players who prefer tactical gaming and character optimisation, it makes sense that most people here dislike the Hunger system.
>>
>>97390564
I probably heard someone else say it, but it's an apt thing to say about the entire X of Darkness corona pretty broadly.
If you don't have to deal with any downsides to your splat, then you're just a guy with superpowers. If the player doesn't act like a vampire, isn't roleplaying like he's a vampire, no downsides, then yeah, the game is just about a bunch of superheroes. The vampire thing just becomes a vague aesthetic with no teeth, pun intended.

Power Word Pain from RoD is useful at all levels

At low levels its just a strong source of damage, at higher levels it can keep casters distracted for multiple rounds

I like Ice Slick as a cleric version of Grease (One that can be ignored if the caster also uses Snowshoes)

>>97391741
There's an extremely non-core set of spells I adore called Breathball and Breathdoom, level 6 and 9 respectively, I believe. Breathball converts any breath weapon the caster possesses into a basketball size swirling orb of smog that hangs in place for a few minutes. Anyone that comes within range sets it off, releasing the full effect of the breath weapon in a Fireball sized burst. Breathdoom is similar but has fewer restrictions, higher damage cap, is permanent, and is invisible.

Bruv that brand literally (note that I am using this word as it is supposed to be used) steals trending art from twitter and pixiv, prints it on a card, and sells them like a South East Asian who finally discovers a 5 dollar pasta maker, uses it to make noodles, and sells it at 10x the price. I don't give a shit what your stance is on """"" exploitative gambling """"" or whatever the fuck kind of cheetos dust you're snorting, but debasing yourself to pay for something that you could definitively do a much better job with (resin panels, layered 3d cutouts, custom mats or sleeves, the sky's the limit) should be considered a form of self harm and immediately put under the surveillance of a mental institution. Any further form of posturing about unrelated wishwash past this post will be considered trolling and rightfully ignored and dealt with appropriately.

Well, not to worry. If you decide to get into the game, he's not too hard to get since they reprinted him in Fabled. The promo would have been worth more, likely, but that only matters if you're a collector/investor. I'd recommend checking your local card store to see if they have a league night, and play a few rounds to see if it grabs you.

I really really hope TOW never undergoes what the 40k ITC went through. 40k has transformed measurably because of their catering to tourney fags. While I would like a balanced game, it’s more so for seeing variety on the table than caring about comp. I really hope TOW focuses more on flavor and crunch over comp faggotry. So far it seems specialist games has a different philosophy to the main studio, but it’s GW so it could change overnight for the better or worse.
>>
>>97391602
>A Hochland rifle, or a group of dedicated handgunenrs, ought to be able to shoot this thing out of the sky. I don't care about balance or any of that garbage, this being a thing just does not make sense except as some kind of support unit for artillery in the way Bony used.
I can't believe that it doesn't have some kind of flammable rule. It's a fucking paper lantern with a stockpile of explosives.
>>
>>97391761
The Flammable rule in TOW is pretty shit. It just turns off that unit's regen when hit with a flaming weapon.
Turning off Regen is what Flaming Weapons are supposed to do, Flammable is supposed to make things more susceptible to Flaming Attacks.

But yes, the Cathay balloons are dumb, and should be limited to 1 per 1000 points.

It’s not a zeppelin. There no flammable gas in the balloon just hot air. The paper could obviously just be treated with flame retardant chemicals from their alchemists.
The balloon itself does need to be made way less durable though, I don’t think flammable is flavourful or significant enough to fix it. Or keep the same stats and increase its cost by 40-50%.
