>other ruling question is does Dark Ruler No More prevent Mirrorjade's leave the battlefield effect?
No. It's easier to understand when you conceptualize cards as separate instances when they activate their effects in different locations, rather than the same card which had effects applied to them in other locations. The instance of Mirrorjade that was on the field had its effects negated by the effects of Dark Ruler No More. The effects of Mirrorjade in the GY or banishment did not.

Of note; If you return Mirrorjade to the Extra Deck, its effect doesn't trigger. Same applies if Mirrorjade is banished face-down, because they are face-down.

MtG didn't use to be this way until EDH became the most popular format. When playing MtG casually meant taking a Standard deck to your weekly FNM, proxies were not allowed as it was a sanctioned tournament. Since EDH is a casual format, people never really gave a shit and that sentiment remained, fortunately. The price of MtG singles since the advent of Commander has increased dramatically, where even your average casual deck non-proxied will run you fro. $250-$500, unless you're explicitly playing a budget build. I unironically switched to playing YGO as my primary card game as it is far more affordable these days.
>>
>>97277430
Most players don't give a fuck about proxy/OCG/AE cards, HOWEVER the owner will absolutely kick your ass to the curb if he catches you with one during a official tournament, because he can lose his OTS status over it. It's only allowed in HOTU tournaments, but then again HOTU tournaments have all sorts of weird rules, my lgs has its custom banlist and also lets you use a card from the official banlist ie you can run pot of greed or apollousa in your deck.

Selling games is pathetic. Either throw it out or gift it to a friend, charity, or boardgame cafe
>>
What was your first game of 2026, anons? Earlier today I played Arnak for the first time, 2p game with my wife. I quite enjoyed it, thought we wouldn't get to do all too much seeing as there's only 5 rounds of 2 worker placements each, but there was enough to do with card actions and misc. free actions. I think I'll get the expedition leaders thing soon. Also looking forward to playing with 3 or 4 people to see how it differs with numbers of location tiles and competition for sites.
>>
>>97280466
I won't say it's pathetic, but if you have anything like a decent income it's simply not worth the time. Giving them away is the best option, and could get you laid too.

Before you ask, I'm giving away games to a school where a friend of a friend is a teacher. She was interested, and unfortunately I'm not available. Still, that's one avenue for you lonely fellas out there.
>>
>>97280466
>>97280595
I'm usually far too lazy to bother selling my stuff, but my local club does a buy/sell/trade table so I usually put them on there for a few quid and if they're not gone after a couple of sessions I'll give them to a charity shop.
>>
>>97280595
The next level of this is just volunteer playing board games with people who are receiving mental/physical support in hospital or agency setting. You'll meet a ton of people, especially women. But no one actually wants to go through the effort of being prosocial. I get a lot of people who want to volunteer because they think my clients are projects to 'fix' and want to feel like superheroes by doing fuckall for a couple weeks before disappearing

>>97280632
Ive done something similar where if I don't have anyone who i can specifically give a game to I put it up at my spot and just ask for people to put their name and then raffle it. Its prosocial and builds community for zero effort but I dont do it anymore since I dont buy games I dont play often and keep

>every animal ever that lives in groups and hunts for food
To be fair, that doesn’t apply to a staggering amount of monsters and real-life animals – most either don’t hunt (bovids, elephant-likes) or don’t live in groups (big cats save for lions, snakes, birds, and the hundreds of monsters based on those three). So at least we can use them to introduce some tactics different from the typical ‘group of idiots’ and ‘single giant monster’ animal encounters.

If you could choose the set of core classes (in the PHB/core book and ideally the rest of the classes are designed around them) what would you choose?
They don't have to be identical to their current incarnations.

For me its,
>Ranger,
absorbs a lot of the fighter but keeps the independent survivalist schtick.
>Paladin,
Divine warrior with special abilities but no spells
>Rogue,
Sneaky stabby martial, basically as he is now
>Wizard,
>Druid,
>Cleric,
Default to being lightly armoured wandering friar tuck type character, but with options to put on some armour and bonk.

>gameplay
For Centaurs, you should be able to use them as mounts when not in combat if they're lightly armed & armored. I think you could ride into battle with them and fight on their back without overburdening them, depending on your loadout. Squeezing into dungeons and caves might be a bit of a bitch, and your centaur companion may find themselves too cumbersome to accompany you in certain locations. If people in wheelchairs can make do, I'm sure a transmog potion or a shrinking potion might solve the problem.
>fantasy settings
They're more at home here for sure, like having a horse. Some taverns may give you a hard "no" for your centaur companion, but I'm sure regions that are steeped in centaur culture or adjacent ones have accommodations for their unique anatomy. If nothing else, they could help carry your camp supplies and other provisions.
>loadouts for fantasy
If you're not riding them, I think they can be pretty well armed and armored- think tower shield and a mace/flail. They also make good spearmen, so I think they'd be comfortable wielding a halbard and similar pike-style weapons. This would be with them wearing plate mail cuirass for the human portion and chainmail curtain over their horse hind quarters, or perhaps some specially fitted Gambeson. Other plate sections could be fitted to their horse body as needed. Archery and crossbows seem like they'd work for ranged options. I've not considered them using magic, but having a fairly mobile spellcaster seems cool as well.

no
city watch
centaurs would make really good beat cops and be the go too for riot squads

the thing about centaurs is they arent normal calvalry
a horse is a pretty dumb animal
a centaur has no horse it needs to control

more over you wouldnt design a city for just humans unless you were a human ethnostate
humans would find plenty of situations where they have the advantage but its not a whole different world for them indoors.

centaur bodyguards would be top of the line unrivaled.

>>
>>97279219
>logistics
That's one of the main advantages I see with them. For adventuring, they can carry people and gear. For non-adventuring tasks, there's a lot of horsepower to spare for a number of tasks. I'd envisioned medical centaurs hauling a whole carriage of wounded or delivering supplies. This works for post-industrial worlds, but are pre-ubiquitous combustion engine worlds, where the tech for cars and planes is available, but horse-drawn stuff is still the mainstay. The WW2 and subsequent wars would have them doing more base construction and scouting, I think.
>centaur style races
All of the feats I listed up here >>97276510 should work with your tiger/komodo dragon/spider/whatever body, assuming your body is strong enough to act as a mount. I'm sure you could homebrew a few more feats if you wanted another effect.
>>97279447
I tend to have them a slave class with hand wave lore being "They used to be a tribal in the planes, but after losing several territorial wars, they became subjugated and restricted to reservations" akin to native american lore within the U.S. This also allows me to create muscular simple minded amazon style centaur women (this is my fetish), which is perfect for me.
>>97279511
At the very least, they have to find some stairs. There's some other bullshit you can do as well, but if transmog isn't an option, in some cases, centaur folk are just too big to navigate some dungeon sections.

I have pocket money to spend.
Who are the surviving toy soldier manufacturers still in operation on this fair isle?
From Carlton to Broxtowe, Ashfield to Rushcliffe, show me some production houses still limping on.

Sharing useful wisdom that has helped me run more satisfying games. Trying to share some less common advice. These are my opinions and techniques that have helped me. I’d love to hear what has worked for other /tg/ DMs.

1. Time pressure- adding time pressure through use of "clocks" including real life clocks is incredibly helpful to add pressure and tension to a scenario. Giving players choices but not enough time to make every choice adds meaning to those choices. Time pressure in combat is a contentious, but powerful tool to discuss with your players. Forcing a decision in seconds makes combat stressful and - when players are on board- fun (in anticipation of the common objection: if the players don’t make a choice in combat, I usually come back to them before round end, I never have them “just stand there”. Remember to assume character competency).

2- The GM-ing engine- It's okay to front load content and prepare a few different rail-roady hooks in the first few sessions. Being a GM is like starting one of those old prop engines with a winch. It takes a while for the pistons (players) to kick into gear. Once they do, after a few sessions, all you need to do is apply gas. Solve the tavern problem by figuring out how characters know each other prior to the first session.

3- Immersion means impact- After a session, reflect on how the player choices affected the world (for good or ill), try to let the ripple of that effect emerge in the next session. Players that feel like they change the world around them invest in it.

8. Notes and whispers- One trick that has gotten great results is if there’s a piece of very complex or detailed information I tell the players in private or hand them the information so that their player (and by extension, character) can share with the group.

9. Minimize out of character- try to minimize OOC talk if possible. Allow some degree of narrative control. This won’t come naturally, so feel free to prompt this with, “tell me what X does as he’s getting ready to leave the inn”. Prompt roleplaying. Prompt in-character behavior. If you can, encourage as much first person as possible. Getting an entire table to interact in first person is really unique and interesting. Discourage “mother may I” play or asking for rolls. Instead have the players describe what the character tries to do and let the GM ask for a roll. “Can I roll history?” should turn into, “I search my memory for whether I’ve heard this legend or not”. Honestly? I hate “knowledge rolls”, they should be scarce, in my opinion. A character should, generally, know something (what they “know” might not be the full truth) and I like preparing ahead of time what characters know.

10. How to Fail Forward- A lot of people talk about fail forward and say things like “failure should not stop the flow of the game” which is good advice, but they don’t necessarily say how. Here’s my advice, when the players fail to accomplish an action (one that would otherwise halt the flow of the game), do not be afraid to say bluntly

11. GM Descriptions are 3 sentences maximum. Every description should include at least two pieces of sense information.

12. Pauses in description allow me to introduce complications or move the timeline forward. Prepare new complications to introduce when there is a pause in flow. If your complications or experience are direct consequences of previous character activity- that’s top tier GMing.
>>
File: Gatekeeping.png (438 KB, 454x653)
438 KB
438 KB PNG
>>97278798
13. Prepare obstacles but not the solutions to those obstacles when possible. When characters come up with solutions, it’s okay to say “no”. Try for “no, but..” but it’s okay to simply say it doesn’t work and to think of something else. Use this sparingly, though. Saying “yes” too easily can dissolve tension/difficulty/problem solving. Not saying “yes” or “yes, but..” enough will discourage creativity.

14. If the potential for conflict is visible, then it will never be passed over (this doesn’t just mean combat). When in doubt, introduce conflict.

15. Your characters can write your session- When the engine is firing on all cylinders and your players are fully immersed make sure to ask them what they plan to do next session. This will help you prepare your setpieces and encounters. Random tables are very helpful. I encourage you to pre-roll MOST of them prior to session. Rolling also helps me prep for sessions and brainstorm. You MUST keep idea documents to help organize these.

Bonus tip: whether you like it or not, you save yourself an incredible headache by playing with like-minded people in the same season of life as you. Be careful with the more socially extreme/loud personalities. Quiet, overtly “boring”, politically milquetoast nerds are the lifeblood of any stable group.

I'm very open to any new tips /tg/. I've learned a lot from this board (including most of this info). I'm open to hearing disagreements as well.

>Time pressure- adding time pressure through use of "clocks" including real life clocks is incredibly helpful to add pressure and tension to a scenario.
I disagree entirely. I've had two separate campaigns ruined because the players decided a several-month long timer was too brief for them to do something and, despite being grossly underleveled for it, insisted on approaching the encounter. I pushed them off, redirected them to a side-task but they kept at it, almost every session.

Pretty much yeah, they're clueless normies to the Garou but because they're clueless normies they don't get approached unless it's an emergency or the Kinfolk is particularly high value to someone.
>isn't a wise idea
I don't recall the Garou ever caring about that.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

>skills occupying a backpack of slots that get crossed off
wut?
Lamentations of the Flame Princess does not-quite slot based encumbrance that might be worth looking at.
Not osr but looking into where item slots as a mechanic came from Apocalypse World into Dungeon World, maybe something before that i don't remember and various nusr stuff that borrowed from could help.

Question:

Are there any good rules for professional wrestling-style combat maneuvers? I don't mean the 'Haha, I'm playing a quirky luchador character." I mean, any rules which would allow a fighter to break a hobgoblin's spine over his knee, body slam an orc, or twist a gnome's head and break his neck. I'm familiar with the OA martial arts rules, but there has to be something more explicit/specific. I'm planning on implementing this both ways. Why shouldn't a ogre be able to curbstomp the prone halfling? I want to maximize the violence in my game. Thanks in advance!

Depending on how gonzo you want to get Misty Isle of the Eld is in that range.
Halls of the Blood King is 3-5 and a not quite cooked vampire mansion. Needs a bit of work imo but good base.
Forest of Gornat is a good side area to add in if you want more meat but might be more than you're looking for.

I wrote a generator to determine ACKS henchmen availability per market class. I dunno if I'm allowed to release it though. I will if it doesn't violate copyright or whatever. Took me a couple of hours in C++.

I want to get into TTRPGs, but have only one person I can force into this. What are some good TTRPGs that work well with two people? Ironsworn? I see some recommendations of that. Any advice for a first timer? Would be the one one running the game as well.
My only experience in this 'field' is running RP guilds in World of Warcraft.

Furthermore, it would be preferred if the game, for this first time, is a bit more simple. Just to dip our toes in. See how it is.
