Are there any weapon types you would have in your games that aren't represented in the DMG or PHB?

>Caestus/Brass Knuckles - 1d8 Bludgeoning, benefits from any features that affect Unarmed Strikes
>Atlatl - uses Javelins or Spears as Ammunition, has Loading, does 1d10 Piercing at 60/180 range

I was going to suggest Tonfas as well but I feel like that's just a reflavored Club.

And on a similar note:

No matter what kind of dragon it is, you never ever, ever, ever, EVER refer to a dragon’s hoard as “junk”, especially while they’re in earshot.

Dragons are very proud of their hoards and are very sensitive about it.

some of the things im considering

>buff heal to 24 values (playing 14)
>death saves are con saves
>exhaustion lvl each time go to 0 hp
>getting damaged while unconscious isnt auto death save fail, but allows con save like for concentration (10 or half damage whichever is higher), however it's a auto hit in melee (but not auto crit)

basically im trying to make hitting downed players a more natural thing for mobs to do while being less overwhelmingly punishing, and giving player's some counterplay, and also get rid of the stupidity of healing a player at 0 being more efficient than healing them before they go to 0
>>
>>97835127
I use death's door mechanic and it's so much better I don't think I'm ever gonna run 5e without it.
tl;dr your failed death saves remain until you complete a long rest (and even then you can make healing slower by each long rest healing 1 death save), at 0 HP you have disadvantage on attacks and ability checks but remain conscious, you roll death save when dropping to 0 and whenever taking damage at 0, nat 1 does nothing special, nat 20 heals you to 1 (thus removing the disadvantage temporarily). Effects that stabilize instead heal from 0 to 1 HP. I happen to run permadeath right now, but if I didn't I guess revive spells would have no material component (or cost less) but remove failed death saves. Also, each source of save bonuses only adds no more than +1 to death saves and death save bonuses can't exceed +5.
>>
>>97835887
what about DC casters, do they get a debuff while 0hp? and do you still roll normal death saves every turn?

Having hobbies takes a backseat to having kids.
Especially when they are still absolutely dependant on their parents.
Sadly, the time constraints of working a job and raising a family, are often what causes hobbyists to hang up their kit.
However, you will have more time as your child develops into an individual, and might even get the opportunity to introduce them to your kid.
Just keep the house full of the sort of things that excite the imagination towards fantasy or scifi, or whatever your main gaming niche is.
And for god's sake, take your kid to the library and help them select some good fiction once a month.

Just play games with them. Here is me playing HeroScape with my 4 year old yesterday.
As for hobby time, I have a 4 year old and 1year10month old and they have never taken from my hobby time. I do my painting and crafting in evening after they have gone to bed, or I set them up with paint supplied next to me while I paint at my desk and let them paint toy army men or pictures, so they get to be just like Dad and it's good bonding time.
When they were babies it was even easier since they just sleep around and lay all day, but at this early age they should be on their mother almost 24/7 unless you're a millennial dad married to a feminist

I mean that's kinda something they were already getting at in SC1 and Brood War. The Conclave had failed and was a broken ruin, the Overmind could only be beaten with the power of the Nerazim, and those same Nerazim were the ones who ended up saving the Protoss as they fled from Aiur. The whole point was that the current ways of the Protoss weren't working and needed to change.
>>
>>97835164
I know that, I just feel that the change was achieved way too easily.
>>
>>97835185
Because Artanis is the Executor - YOU - from SC1. Of course he gets shit done.
>>
>>97835185
It sorta just happens between games since that's where BW leaves the Protoss at. Their society has essentially collapsed twice over, first with the Conclave being destroyed on Aiur then with Raszagal being killed in Brood War. Hell one of the Zerg missions in BW has you more or less blow up the biggest city on Shakuras.
The Protoss basically didn't HAVE anywhere else to progress. Artanis was their only big leader left, with Selendis being his only significant lieutenant if we consider her as the BW Executor.
Protoss kinda got written into a hole by getting slammed hard in their SC campaign and then being the first campaign in BW, letting the Terran and Zerg campaigns walk over them.
>>
>>97834477
Or just don't take him. Unlike most wargames, Starcraft doesn't require a hero or leader model for the army.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). For instance I accidentally stumbled into the Striker and Many-Headed Serpent's rivalry with some of the usual roles reversed: A key aspect of the world is that it's a tautological time loop. One of the titans-aspirant will eventually consume their peers and then the whole world retroactively becoming the Ymir / Pangu primordial being who dies and decomposes into creation (which just so happens to contain the hungry hungry humans who will / already have eaten their way to retroactive godhood).

The Serpent is less a manifestation of Chaos than alternate Order based on such alien principles as to be incomprehensible to us. What if something other than humanity dominates all and so cemented itself as the foundation of all? The Serpent is both "scaly-nasty-water-thing" of visceral revulsion and the interlinking chains of impartial cause and effect which drag our worldview away from naïve anthropocentrism and into a nihilistic wasteland where people are nothing special (or worse yet throughput for whatever else IS).

The Striker on the other hand is "fertile" disorder. Their tool-weapon is both the Ur-flint, an aching wisdom tooth knocked loose by stone (as well as that percussive surgical instrument) and an idea itself extracted from the skull in pursuit of peace and quiet. Peals of thunder are as much swearing at having dropped something on his foot as vast oaks or fearsome foes falling before his wrath. Most of the "firsts" he's responsible for are accidents refined by others but the very fact he has no clue what he's up to is what makes him a wellspring of creation and especially anathema to those creations which limit alternative creativity.

Anyone focus on glass as an important industry in their setting?

Pretty sure for a lot of the west and Italy and Venice in particular, Glassmaking was an important and highly exported product. Often being highly covetted in places like China in a way that Fine china ceramics were coveted in Europe.

I always thought that it might be interesting to make a european inspired place the "foreign and exotic location where you get luxery goods" If you are in a non european inspired place like if it is more Arabian, Southeast Asian, or Japanese. Think I got the idea in part when I was playing Scarlet Heros which has some more southeast asian derived settings.

If you want to go for something more magical maybe stained glass windows and fine crystal wineglasses that vibrate and hum with magic but will shatter if the magic is not kept in check could be a cool idea. Or maybe you are a glass blower that literally blows in the breath of life to animate glass objects. Glass has a lot of interesting potentials.

>always thought that it might be interesting to make a european inspired place the "foreign and exotic location where you get luxery goods" If you are in a non european inspired place like if it is more Arabian, Southeast Asian, or Japanese. Think I got the idea in part when I was playing Scarlet Heros which has some more southeast asian derived settings.

The issue I see with this is that the East having all these exotic goods wasn't just a coincidence, it's way more likely that tropical countries are going to have valuable goods than a northern temperate climate. For example if we assume that there's a one in a hundred chance any given plant will produce a useful spice/dye/medicine/whatever, you're way more likely to find it somewhere like Indonesia which has over 28K species of plants than Britain which has only around 1K (Indonesia being an archipelago also helps a lot here compared to somewhere like Africa since it creates more endemism). This is why all the fancy spices and dyes came from places like India, Indonesia, and China and not Europe. Also there's animal-based goods like silk, ivory, pearls, animal skins, etc to consider as well.

Of course not all goods are as ecologically related, like minerals or some manufactured ones like glass that you mentioned, but it's still important to consider because unless you're setting your not-Europe in the jungle they'd probably still need to have a trading relationship with some exotic tropical region to get certain goods.
>>
>>97835681
Fair enough. It wont be exotic in the "same way" as warmer and more bio-diverse climates are to europe.

I wasnt trying to imply that the not-europe would ONLY export exotic stuff, just that some of the stuff they do export would seem exotic in a non-European inspired main location.

ON the topic of glass and silk, I also find it interesting that glass making processes were also jealously guarded just like how silk making processes were in the east. The Venetians being an obvious example, but later on I believe there was like only one small German state that had the knowledge to make the finest telescope lenses and people from all over europe bought them and tried to get the secret. European telescopes more broadly meant were also another major luxury export across the globe.

Recently I found some Humanity Fuck Yeah YouTube videos that use AI voice narration on my feed. After using them as background noise while cleaning my apartment I found that that most of them are more or less the same. >We've barely started looking for exoplanets, you retard. There are probably millions of habitable ones, or ones we can make habitable, in our galaxy alone.
Pure delusional headcanon. If you search hundreds of thousands of planets and find absolutely nothing the reasonable thing to deduce isn't "surely there's millions of good planets right out there!"

And aside from that, even if right outside our observation threshold there were only other Earths, they are so far away we would never be able to get there, because FTL travel is impossible.

>This is also unsupportable, as it assumes we won't develop new technology that makes survival in currently inhospitable environments possible
If we invent technology that makes it possible to survive in the fucking void of space and in the total absence of a livable atmosphere with no food, usable water or anything that makes life possible, we will have no need for planets at all and would rather be served by expanding into empty space.

I don't care about ai. Personally I wouldn't use it, but it is up to you to choose how to play the game. Making art is absolutely ok, not everybody can draw (or even if they can, an adventure usually requires tons of art, I'd prefer my gm to spend this time on making cool mechanics or interesting situations). Writing an adventure sounds lame, but then again why would I care how you made it, if I don't like it, it is not because of AI, it is because AI did a poor job. Generating a character is "why would you do it" tier, but also why would I care, it is your character, you choose who it is.

those things you disapprove of are only unacceptable if they're entirely made by ai, i bet you wouldn't become a crosseyed retard like op if it was just some brainstorming help for the biographies or sessions or something, and the same can be done with a battle map since you can just have the ai complete something you started yourself with a sketch, all of which also falls under what the op described

People always talk about playoids running the opposite direction from quests. I've found it's pretty easy to play on my knowledge of my regular players to get them to go places. The girl-crazy guy will want to help pretty NPCs, the guy who is a dad will want to go investigate the rumor of an orphanage in danger etc.

And there is a certain point where you should just opt out of playing games to begin with if you want to be a stubborn toddler and ignore the call to adventure.

>>
>>97835792
Fair concern, but less relevant than you'd think. It's functionally a line-of-sight game with the exception of a couple of exceptionally low ranged weapons. On top of that, I've got provisions for floorgame play built in. It should be noted that this game is specifically for 1/144 scale, so about ~12mm, so the scaling issues aren't so pronounced. Line of sight is true line of sight from a unit's head, and the posing serves actual mechanical purposes (you need to be able to physically point the muzzle at something to make a valid shot, for example), so in practice the lack of bases works for the game rather than against it. If you can think of any way I could post the rules in the the treat, what with PDFs being banned now, it would probably make more sense.
>>
>>97835827
Ah, if it's a case of having funcionally unlimited range because you're relying on los it makes sense. The los starting from the head and posing the weapon sound cool.

First thing that comes to mind is the scale of the engagement, due to the size and buying indivigual models, assumedly it would have to be pretty low scal like maybe 2-6 models per side. which seems like a skirmish style game and almost teetering on single entity control rpg. Regardless, could be interesting, always really liked the combat dynamics and factors in play in the Universal Century setting in specific. Minovsky particle interference making balloon decoys, wired drones, and other things more viable. Just wish that more combined arms tactics were involved rather than relying on the big main character mobile suits, some of the coolest scenes involve ship captains executing tactics using various factors including the ships themselves.

Doesnt seem like it needs to be an issue depending on how its set up, some games like lion rampent just require units to be in a 6 inch circle. Which should cover everything besides really fat ass mobile armors or you are for some reason playing in perfect grade gunpla. You could have different sized unit circles to compensate, 3 inch 6 inch and 9 inch.

also, nice quads.

Very nice digits.
Look for specific issues and prompt for them, for instance with feedback forms.
If possible record games and watch the recordings so you can see how they played and how that fits your expectations. Being there to watch will affect things so it isn't ideal, though obviously that depends on your resources.
Playtesting is work, so compensate them for doing it. That's more likely to be buying pizza for the group or something than actually paying a wage, but do something to acknowledge their effort.
