Pendragon Thread! What's the deal with 6E?
>>97833087All Skills, Passions, and Traits have a soft cap of 20 and increasing them above that expands the crit chance. Now, this is a roll-under system, so you want to roll below your score but you also want to roll as close to your score as possible (especially in opposed tests such as jousting or combat in general as the one closest to their score "wins") and rolling your score exactly is a crit. So if you have a score of, say, 24 then you crit on all 20s as well as all 19s, 18s, 17s, and 16s.In order to increase one's passions, traits or skills, you have to use them generally (there is a chance to increase them through training and the end-of-year winter phase as well). If they are used, you checkmark them and at the end of session you roll and if you roll higher (or roll a 20 if it's already capped) it increases by 1.Lastly, the game is best known perhaps for the Great Pendragon Campaign, a campaign encompassing like 80 or so years of play from 485 to 566, meaning you'll go through a good few knights in the meantime. King Arthur, by the way, becomes known in 510 I think? It might be 515 or any point between those two, I don't have the book right in front of me atm. But yeah, the game is expansive.Magic is also rare and more of a mystical sort, not "magic missile" and "fireball" but shit like "WE CALL ON THE SAINTS TO HEAL THIS KNIGHT" or "the druid calls down a fog to hide your knights from the giants sights."
>>97833107Sorry, had to step away for a moment.Alright, last thing to comment on - "Your Pendragon Will Vary" is a mantra that's been around since I think all the way back in 1st edition in the 80s. Basically Stafford knew players would end up veering stories off in 30 different directions all the time and what style game players would want from the game would vary from group to group. One group might want knights in shining armor on heavy chargers fulfilling quests from faerie kings and queens, another group would want mudcore "chainmail is the only proper armor and kite shields the only proper shield, and no magic or actual miracles" realism. So while the game is, canonically, more in line with, say, the movie Excalibur or even Disney's "The Sword in the Stone" movie (based on a book if I remember rightly), it does give guidelines on how to adapt the game to fit whatever the group overall wants from it.A famous story that was confirmed by Stafford was a female friend of his being asked to play the game with him back in the 90s and she wasn't super interested in it, preferring to play other systems at the time, but finally told him "if I can play a jewish lesbian knight then I'll play" thinking he would scoff and stop asking but he instead said he would have everything ready for her on game day on how to incorporate that sort of knight into the game. Why? Because the Arthurian Legend is one that constantly changes and adapts to fit the times people live in and the stories they want to tell. Hell, the idea of a female knight in an Arthurian-style setting even predated that 90s conversation by centuries, going all the way back to the 1200s with "Le Roman de Silence" about a girl raised as boy who even gets to be a knight and who has to struggle with her identity and the various social norms of her day, settling on using a masculine name, clothing, and presentation through like 98% of the story.

Hotseat multiplayer is a traditional game right? What faction and hero are you starting with and why?
>>97834822Not really sure about trying it when I can just play the vidya desu
>>97833800I loved playing Micropose Risk 2 using hotseat multiplayer, we would pass the laptop around when we got bored.
>>97833800Castle, because I've always been a male human fighter supremacist, and Ingham, because in the very first map I've ever played he was the starting hero I was assigned, and I really got involved playing as this poor monk who would rather be ora-et-laboring his days away in some forgotten monastery instead of getting roped into leading an army of mundane humans and their pet griffins against a diabolical wizard (Astral), a perfidious necromancer (Vidomina), some minotaur scumbag (whose name I can't remember for the life of me), and their respective hordes of foul abominations. The real magic was how the brief backstory of a minor character that was completely irrelevant in the main plot could make me feel so involved in the struggle of a humble, unlikely hero against three different brands of sorcerous evil. A single line of backstory was all it took.
>>97833800Why do you want to post here instead of the appropriate board? There are just as many people who will tell you to kill yourself on /v/. What's the difference?
>>97834822Actually yes! I played it co-op with my wife. It took us about four hours to get through a scenario, most of which was setup and rules-reading. If you're tolerant of lots of bullshit fiddly rules, it was actually pretty fun.

>>97833006You should be looking for a gun to put in your mouth and preferably use buckshot because you might miss with how small your brain is.Slabs are a scam to anyone not in the loop of money laundering. Where they throw around bullshit values like "$30,000" for a card that's maybe worth $30 because it's an asset with "no set value". There's absolutely no reason these cards, even in mint or 10 condition, should be worth that much. You'll also noticeMeanwhile rubes like you are used as a sort of cash out to make a final buck off these money laundering tools or someone else trying to get you to hold the bag after they realized they were retarded. You will not make money. The best cons are the cons where they make (you) think you're going to be the scammer but in reality you were played the entire time by a bigger group. Go read any con artist book. You will quickly learn that you are not the guy who will make out good.

>>97837046Moreso the brackets have no correlation to power level because structural differences are EXTREMELY evident in the lower brackets when someone good is making a deck, because someone bad has no obligation to understand deck building at all, yet feel "safe" because the banlist is different.
i hate how common it is for people to refuse to play against your deck not because it's disproportionately powerful and likely to win, but because it's a playstyle they think is socially acceptable to refuse to play against. like god forbid a game have a different pace or you have to manage your resources a little differently
>>97837049>gavin doesn't allow me to play mld>therefore brackets badsorry that a gay faggot broke you, but more people are sane enough to understand that the world doesn't revolve around them while gavin quite literally makes the rules, that's reality for you
>>97837054Actually no. Because there is also an argument on how fast a deck should be able to win out of 1 in 1 googolplex scenarios. Despite the original shit Gavin posted stating "aims to" not "physically possible to."No one can agree. You can argue they can but the fact you are arguing AT ALL proves they don't work. Otherwise you would not be arguing with like 5 people on what constitutes what.

Is there any innate advantage to make your character large? Or rather, use an ability that makes them large? I am a bit newer to this version of DnD but my character can turn themselves "large" every so often. But what is the advantage to being large in game terms? Will it make you a easier to hit target? Can you pull and grab things more easily etc?
>>97835066As a huge fan of the binder, that warlock pisses me the hell off.
>>97836750At the most basic, the only thing it does is doubling your carry weight for each size above medium (so x2 for Large, x4 for Huge, etc.) and allowing you to grapple bigger creatures. Because you're normally only able to grapple things one size larger than you.You are easier to hit only in the sense that it's harder to find cover. Half Cover and Three-Quarters cover are named as such for how much of your body they cover. So if a chair covers half your body while you stand behind it, you have half cover, but if you become large you no longer have cover from it. Beyond that, most abilities that turn you large also have extra effects to represent that, such as making your attacks do more damage. There's also probably some other more situational upsides, like using your ability to turn large to try to gain advantage on intimidating someone, but those would largely be dependent on what the DM decides is a reasonable use case.

How do people do dating IF they do it in solo? Something I just tried with a little bit of success was making a skill gauntlet. A series of scenes or "dates" with 1 skill roll each. I "win" or "lose" depending on if I reach 3 successful rolls or 3 failed rolls first. If I succeed we successfully bond over the task involved, if failed we don't jive. >1 met someone at a punkrock place and they were talking about a band they like, I have geography as a skill so I start talking about how them being from Poland may have influenced their style. Succeded in test and they were absorbed in the conversaion and gave me their number> met up again at a bar and we were talking about our favorite drinks, I said lager, and they preferred stouts, conversation didnt go anywhere, not a catastrophe, but not the greatest date 1 failure.>Meet up later at a library game night, asked if they were into more niche Games like Traveller, succeeded, they started gushing about how they always wanted to travel the stars with a small crew... Maybe you could be one of them.>Met up then at their house which had band posters and space ship miniatures everywhere and watched some Str trek, make a corny innuendo about the Enterprise-D and Risa, success, laughs at how bad it was, but still liked the idea, fade to black, scored.Bagged a hothead punkrock sci-fi fan who has (bad) taste in alcohol.Think it was a pretty good way to flesh out a character.
