I always found it weird that D&D was maligned as witchcraft, satanism, and anti-social. From what I can tell, TTRPGs just increase sociability, problem solving, conscientiousness, and probably improves self-concept through skills and self-esteem. Did any anons here live through Bothered About Dungeons and Dragons or the Satanic Panic? Sorry if this is boring or repetitive to others, but I want to study the social aspects of TTRPGs and how it exists as a subculture. I think, by and large, this is the best board on 4chan because people really care about this hobby and want to help others get into it. Despite the shitposting, I think the community is vibrant and the games I played through Find a Game threads were all filled with genuine, nice people. So it irks me that the Satanic Panic tried to paint subcultures as evil. Maybe it's because people think TTRPGs overlap with extreme music or just teenage entertainment in general.
>>97180367Not everyone. There were always out-groups. Well, out-loners. Individuals who didn't fit in with the rest, and were heavily mistreated because of it. D&D gave them a bonding tool, something they could do to socialize with each other and get enrichment without having to suffer abuse. But large groups are rarely kind to smaller groups.
>>97182288It was trivially easy to convince them Communists were hiding out almost everywhere in the 70s.And it's trivially easy to convince them that Globalists or George Sorros minions are hiding out everywhere now. These same people are perfectly willing to believe that every kid shot and killed in a school shooting are CIA trained crisis actors in a massive multiple decades long conspiracy to take guns away. Hasn't seemed to have worked yet despite their repeating the same plot in about 4-5 schools a year every year for almost 20 years, but they keep on trying!
>>97176699why dont you go & ask those faggots in Reddit?
>>97176990Today's adults are the kids that didn't get to have nice things because Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell convinced their parents that anything fun or cool for kids is actually deeply rooted in Satan Worship and if they got that SNES game for Christmas when they were 9, or that Guns and Roses CD when they were 12, then it absolutely 100% wold have conjured a demon into their house. They were not allowed to watch Star Wars because Obiwan was an evil Satan worshiper trying to teach witch craft to Luke. They were not allowed to play Super Mario Bros because magic mushrooms are Satanic. And that shit made them into bitter adults that cannot get over it.

>>97177540That's from a kickstarter update, Poots took that photo. And yeah there's bent vinyl flooring underneath it, it's like he had a roll of it and put it under the plastic so it would look better, but it ran into something at the end of it? I don't know, it's weird, but that comes with the territory I suppose.
>>97179582>And yeah there's bent vinyl flooring underneath itthere's no bent vinyl flooring on that photo, it's a part of the image that was either stretched intentionally (for whatever reason) or an artifact
>>97179833he probably just needed more area to write on so he stretched the upper part
>>97176924That's the fun part, we're poised to win it. We've hit exceptional luck at a certain point and amassed a cast of unkillable champions with sick gear. But we haven't played that campaign in what I can only guess is 8 years.

>>97182274It depends, choosing wood elf vs dark elf can be meaningful but it can be unnecessary as well. Real issue is racial stats and playstyle. On the one hand I want Racials to be meaningful and on the other I don't want to have to choose a certain race to match my playstyle. For me personally it's been an issue as I like Elves but Generally go for martial play styles. I don't mind Orcs and Minotaurs having the undisputed strength bonuses, but a lot of Elven Racials are just pure mage or bust

>>97181266Five leagues from the borderlands as well. My book just arrived for that. You generate a world with what types of settlements and enemies that populate it determined by dice rolls. You can draw up the map yourself or use a map generator or something. Then you build a warband and take it on missions around the region developing your own narrative. Seems really cool. Rangers has more of a set story with crafted missions.

>>97181050SFG is still pretty adamant on the "OU is good enough Circle for now" line. I know Cryx was a monkey wrench in the gears release, since PP was originally saying they weren't going to be in the early set of armies, but was probably added because of fan backlash, like how Menoth is getting announced next year. We will not be getting dinos though, Mat is pretty stuck in his hatred of that meme.

>>97181931>The Force AwakensMuch like the first Hobbit movie, An Unexpected Journey, I was really harsh on it when it first came out. But after seeing the next two in each trilogy, I look back on them both much more fondly.
>>97182103Yeah, the worst part about TLJ was definitely Rian Johnson just being a machild throughout production and using TLJ as a form of contrarian tantrum therapy. He wanted to make HIS movie, not a Star Wars movie, which is a terrible mindset for the guy you're trusting with a multibillion dollar franchise.I still blame Kennedy overall for legitimately being a fake fan and not understanding a single thing about why people liked Star Wars or other Lucasfilm movies, despite having worked with Lucas and Spielberg for decades.
>>97182178>I still blame Kennedy overallAs you should. She was the boss, the buck stops with her. Rian Johnson was a shitty choice (franky, JJ wasn't much better, he had just come off of raping Star Trek, and we want to entrust the other big space fantasy series to him?), but those were her calls and she should have known better.
>>97182178It really just starts and ends with the fact that they never made a trilogy. They just made three movies that happen to have the same characters in them and star wars on the poster.>>97182124TFA is the least bad of the three, but in the end it's just ANH with more lens flare and mystery boxes.>>97182103TLJ is bad on all levels. It's amazing how bad it is. In a way we need to put it in a museum as an example of what not to do.
>>97181931>"Alright, guys. We're gonna take Abrams' first movie, then Johnsons middle movie and Trevarrow's finale. That'll make THE BEST trilogy."This reminds me of an old writing exercise i was given in 4th grade where they split the class into 3 groups and gave us the rough overview of a story (Something about a pair of knights saving a princess from a Dragon) Each member of group 1 wrote a beginning. Group 2 each wrote a middle and Group 3 each wrote an ending. Then, we were split off and took turns putting our stories together.None of them made any sense except for the opening. But the middle and end parts all relied on the knights having stuff that was never set up for them in the other partsIt really taught me about the importance of plot consistency.

I just invented a magical system to explain an anime girl phenotype, that covers most IRL and anime and fantasy phenotypes of girls.Basically an anime girl would inherit her mother race, but her hair color, eye color and other characteristics are based on her astrological birth date. But what I need after this, is a logical way to name each combination.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:>n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0>Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128>Need a starter dungeon? >>97180646Good question, one which has caused a lot of arguments on the Palladium forums over the years. It's generally accepted that the Cyber-Knight is underpowered compared to other OCCs at its supposed power level. That said, they're supposed to be mainly melee combatants with their psi-sword, cyber-armor and combat psionics making them strong close-range fighters, while Mind Melters and the like are more back-row artillery.
