After a few plays I really like Andromeda's edge at 2 players. Need to get it to table with 4-5 as my only 4 player game was the demo I got. Could see it being too cumbersome with the more competitive aspect and downtime that brings but I still really like the blend of euro and ameritrash the game has. Neither occupies too much time and both give opportunities for the other to thrive.
>>96469483i meant more like 1 player vs. 2 or more but i should have specifiedyeah i've played root, it's kind of fun but also kind of a headache, it's like one game but you have to learn and keep track of multiple different games at the same time
>>96469453For something small and quick I like the infinity gauntlet love letter game
>>96469676I'd love for some archenemy games but I don't think theres enough of a market for it. Could be an interesting niche to fill. Try and bend adversarial GMing into a more tight and competitive experience.
Any Railways of the world players here? I want an expansion map and have the big box, plus the Europe expansion. I'm debating between>Australia, for the switch tracks and australia jokes I can make while playing it (and it's low in stock, might not be able to get it again)>Portugal, for another small map (East US and Europe are both pretty big. Plus the ocean mechanic seems pretty cool)>Western US, to combine with eastern US and try the crazy transcontinental game. (I actually do have a table big enough for it)Railways through time seems complicated, I don't think I'd be able to table it much.
Why are they always the weakest class? Why do designers hate them so much?>Have you tried not playing DND?It's not just DND.
>>96463223Shadow of the Demon Lord has strong rangers. They have several strong abilities and the most starting health of any core expert path.
>>96466515they are probably most known for being able to have a pet so you have the beastmaster fantasy which is awkwardly inserted at best but makes sense for the survivalist to have thatthe monster hunter aspect, but having advantage on specific monsters is super niche and then the having some nature magic, which just seems wrongalso being really good at archery is a thing people think is related to them, but isn't even supposed to be "their thing" so people walk in thinking the fighter wouldn't be good with a bow and disappointed when the ranger is only kinda okayall these identities aren't gracefully combined
An idea I just had would be to distinguish fighter/ranger/barbarian with how they handle wildlife and people.Rangers are specialized in hunting wildlife and monsters, think like the Witcher. As they grow stronger they become more and more specialized in this, learning more about monsters and how to efficiently fight them. They know how to take advantage of monster behavior, have special tools they can use to counter them, and can navigate their home environments more easily. Essentially all monsters and wildlife are their favored enemy.Fighters are the opposite, focused on fighting intelligent, usually humanoid entities. They will learn military tactics, how to deal with different weapons, how to pierce armor, how to feint, disarm, and more.Barbarians, since they don't focus on any knowledge in particular, just raw strength, are fairly good against both monsters and humans, but they are not as powerful as either rangers or fighters in their niche.
>>96469560>they are probably most known for being able to have a pet so you have the beastmaster fantasy which is awkwardly inserted at best but makes sense for the survivalist to have thatHonestly this concept should just be it's own class rather than be tacked on to the Jack-of-all-trades class
>>96469560>and then the having some nature magic, which just seems wrongI think part of it is that it's trying to draw on how Aaragorn used some special herbs to heal Frodo, but the simplest way to represent that mechanically in a fair way was just to give Ranger access to a bit of healing magic. And then while doing that, they just decided to toss on some other fitting spells in the process, until you get to the end point where Ranger is seen as at least a partial spellcaster. It's weird, but it's also something that's just naturally evolved into part of the identity. And it's also part that meshes well with the idea of a beastmaster ranger, since nature magic helps to make an animal companion more robust or justify why a Ranger can easily revive or find a new pet. And yeah, a lot of people assume Rangers are meant to be the best at archery, where if anything they got more bonuses to dual-wielding. But with them also being survivalists and hunters, it makes sense that people expect a bow.But it does just end up being a pretty messy mashup because there are so many different ideas of what makes a Ranger a Ranger, and in what quantities. That's probably why you see people saying that the Ranger class is a failure, because to some people just playing a Rogue with expertise in survival or a Fighter with a wilderness background is what they really want from the concept.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>96469447>I'm curiousI'm not arguing against training in any form, and if one wishes to evaluate their players' performance to determine training time more power to them. I just know it's a suboptimal rule for my table and for the game I run. Training costs are all but explicitly intended to lengthen campaigns—which is fine for multi-year campaigns with weekly sessions, but if you're playing a casual bimonthly dungeon crawl with BX or what have you there's very little reason to include them.
>>96469425They're not separable like that. Problem solving on ttrpgs is contextual based. Don't worry about bogging down the thread, they're arguing about culture war shit.
>>96469752Ok in that case>Room dimensions: 40'x50'. a treasure chest hangs 10' south of the north wall on a 5' chain, 15’ above the ground. The floor beneath the chest is dotted with a grid of slim holes. 20’ to the south, a large metal block hangs from another chain of similar length. Removing the chest or its contents causes the metal block (a counterweight) to drop, lowering portcullises over each door to trap treasure thieves. Lowering the chest causes spikes to eject from the holes, dealing 1d6 damage to anyone standing over them.

Does anyone else have troubles with depth perception? I'm having a hard time gauging the distance between my brush and the detail I'm trying to paint so I often bump into other parts of the mini. Is this something that is supposed to happen when focusing on things this small or are my eyes just bad?
>>96469441The times I have this problem are usually lighting dependent. What happens to me is usually painting dark on a dark area, the lighting lets me see the brush tip properly from one eye, but the lighting/glare are different in the other eye and I can't see the contrast from that angle so I lose depth perception.Idk how bad or normal that is, I just try and be careful.

>>96468637>>96468855It just so happens that the two of you have chanced upon the two extremes of a Rogue Trader. Some of them are indeed exiled from Terra itself, but this generally happens before they can actually threaten anyone truly important. "This guy's getting a following, I'll go ahead and give him the boot before he manages to cause any problems." Likewise, some of them are relegated to a mere frigate and a handful of merchant ships. Madam Charlabelle Armelan, for instance, inherited a Dynasty in tatters after her father spent the full strength of their fleet in defense of their assets from an orkish incursion. It must be said, however, that the first of you has been very silly. A Rogue Trader is a Peer of the Imperium, yes, a rank which includes Chapter Masters, Cardinals, and Inquisitors. This does not by any means make them all inherently equal - rather, it places them uniformly above the common man, their lessers. From there, you compare wealth, influence, and hard assets - a Chapter Master can call upon great military might, a Cardinal can leverage the faith of their domain, given time, and an Inquisitor has any number of strange and potent artifacts and weapons at their command, as well as whatever fleet assets they've managed to secure. Likewise, a first-founding Chapter Master will have exceptionally greater prestige and power than a backwater, barely-known chapter, a popular and skilled orator of a Cardinal can drum up a crusade force, while a lesser one can perhaps inspire a group of menials to form a ramshackle charge, and a Lord Inquisitor may command a fleet of Black Ships and have great influence over one or several Sectors, while a lesser Inquisitor may have no ship at all and struggle to root out a cult on a single world.Likewise with Rogue Traders. They're released out into space to seek great wealth or die trying, and however they fare after the fact depends greatly on their assets, personal ability, and to a large extent, sheer luck.

How did 40K Humanity end up like it is? How did they go from the intended Age of Enlightenment The Emperor was trying to create to the mess of the current setting? Was it a slow decline or did the Heresy really do that much damage to everyone?
>>96469740Everything was, well, not great, but pretty okay for everyone for a while. Then the Ecclesiarchy had a huge fucking war with the entire galaxy about how everyone should be super religious, there was a period of time during which Nova Terra said "fuck the church and the High Lords, I'm gonna manage my own shit" and there was of course a huge war about that because you must respect my authoritah, and let's not forget the War of the Beast. The Horus Heresy was far from the first time humanity punched itself in the face or was facepunched by something or someone else. It's just the one everyone points at because it's the one that stuck Big E in the chair.

>>96441201Batman: Caped Crusader got me wondering, what are some good ways for my villains to launder their illicit gains (and what methods do your villains use)? The Penguin of course uses their venue of The Iceberg Lounge, a boat in the cartoon, and even steals from a police gala she hosts, but what about the villains that aren't lucky enough to own businesses (fronts or otherwise) or be heads of corporations? Especially if they're mad scientist-type villains and need to purchase scientific equipment and/or materials without law enforcement catching on, same for terrorist villains. One minor villain in my setting uses their geokinesis to steal gold and then make it look like he "mined" it, and another idea I just had was that a duplicator could use his powers to counterfeit money by filling up his wallet then copying himself, having the duplicate buy things, and then dismissing the duplicate, causing the copied money to disappear with no evidence that could lead back to him. Asking this again since the last thread got deleted for some reason.
>>96469722I mean, do you want actual laundering? Dirty money in, clean money out? Because that only really applies to villains with a veneer of a civilian life. A lot of career villains are in it solely to finance the next big project, because their obsession, whatever it is, is more important than living like a normal human being. Scarecrow ain't trying to retire. He's robbing banks so he can buy more chemicals off the black market so he can make more fear gas.

Avatars:Avatars are similar to MTG commanders, but they are not cast into the battlefield, and they set your Time (life) for the game. Avatars can even grant unique win conditions.Avatars have effects which can be used at any time as long it has the requisite Energy. You can add Energy (Energize) your Avatar once per turn by tapping X Energies of the same color which are indicated on the Avatar's Time symbol. Most Avatars can be Energized by 3 of 6 Energies, so not all Avatars work with all decks.Picrel Avatar, "Wojak" can be Energized by the Purple, Violet, and Blue colors. There are 4 Avatars which can be Energized with any Color.Avatars generally have some sort of generic card draw effect, and then other effects which correspond to the elements which comprise their compatible Colors.Comment too long. Stories:Stories constitute the Narrative. The Narrative is just the cumulative pile of Stories. The last person to play a Story controls the Narrative, and all the cards in it. It is sort of like a contested field spell zone which increases in power whenever control of it changes. You can use any of the effects in the Narrative, if you control it.The Narrative has a meta-stat of "Depth", which is just the number of Stories "Narrative Elements" which comprise the Narrative. The Narrative conducts combat by distributing X +1 to any cards, where X is the Depth (number of cards which make up the Narrative).Distributing +1 to cards is mostly defensive, but it can also be used offensively, for example by +1ing an Entity you control, so it can 1 shot another Entity or Structure. It can also be used to increase the effect output of cards with tap (-1 as cost) effects. You can also Transmute cards into and out of the Narrative. See "Transmuting".
Frens:Frens are special card type that can only be played by combining cards you already control into a single new composite card. Fren cards have the combined stats and effects of all the constituent cards. They basically build cards vertically. It's similar to YGO if you could fuse any cards together and just combine their stats, effects, and attributes.Frens have very simple but powerful effects which do not appear on any other cards.Frens come in 4 colors, which correspond to the 4 basic types/zones: Entities, Memes, Structures, and Energies. You can use Frens to combine cards of different (any) types, into a new type.Frens have Austism when you play them, which is basically MTG summoning sickness.Fren's stat "Frenliness" denotes the number of cards you need to combine together to make the Fren.Frens can use to give you reach into a type you don't otherwise have access to, which has a wide variety of offensive and defensive applications. Additionally, the playing ("Projection") of a Fren can be used to fizzle effects, as to removes the target of an effect by forming it into a new card.Comment too long.
