>"I cast Mage Hand/Telekinesis to twist his balls, causing crippling pain"ever had a similar situation happen at your table? how did the GM rule it?
>>96529172does he only apply this to humanoid beings?like, say you are fighting a giant preying mantis.could your Monk climb on top of it and twist its antennas to cause pain? or would your GM deem it causes 0 damage?
In D&D, most creatures have something that is essentially a mystical, personal barrier protecting themselves. It is what helps stops mages from being able to do things like "I summon a marble in his throat" or "I teleport this humpback whale on top of his head."Because of this magical "personal space" field, a lot of utility spells can't be used as attack spells, and overcoming this No-No Shield requires higher level spells and not just someone somehow being the first mage to ever try killing someone with a spell intended to clean dishes.
>>96529172Sounds like your GM has never actually been tortured before. You should fix that.
>>96529172Many forms of torture deal damage to a person's body. It makes more sense to rule these kinds of things as dealing nonlethal damage, and then providing a bonus on intimidation checks. At least, assuming that torture works. Which it often doesn't, because people are more prone to saying actually anything to get them out of the torture than they are to give you the true information that you want. In a magic world though, I guess it may be possible for you to use magic to detect any false confessions.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! I've been DMing OSE Advanced for a few weeks now, mostly lvl 1 to 3 one shots, but i would like to know how the game runs at high levels.Does it remain deadly? Or it becomes super-powered like other versions of dnd?

>>96529262>Does it remain deadly?Only if your players are morons. Not your concern though, I'd focus on reading the DMG and starting to port rules over. And also reading the PHB and removing many of the FOEGYG options in OSE "Advanced".
You do you, but I wouldn't antagonise them unnecessarily (and arguably even unfairly) when things are going smoothly.
>>96529369I promise this is a one off, just to revel in it. I won't make it a threadly thing.
If the mod who banned quests isn't a mod anymore, does that mean we can have quests on /tg/ again?
No. That mod was a dark wizard. His death only made his curse more powerful.
Do it faggot and see what happens.
/qst/ wasn't a punishment. It was an opportunity. The mods even gave /qst/ unique features and initially presented it as an optional experiment. Remember: /qst/ wasn't mandatory at first; there's even the original /qst/ sticky in the archive to show that. They probably genuinely thought quests were a neat innovative use of 4chan and were popular enough to deserve their own board. It was only after questers and trolls continued to complain on /tg/ about quests/qst that the mods decided to ban quests from this board, and they made the second sticky. The problem overall is that the mods suck at communicating, and the trolls were able to control the narrative, treating /qst/ as a containment board punishment, especially because metathreads were still heavily discouraged. And, the questers just added to that story, sad about the lower population density of a brand new board and mad about feeling betrayed by the mods who seemed to be listening to the trolls. That's a really bad precedent for them to set, whether the mods intended it or not, and lead a lot of trolls to try to do the same with other things they personally disliked.
>>96529149I sure as fuck hope not. Quests are so fucking dogshit. They were cute when the first few of them happened, now they've devolved into low effort slop that literally strangles all actual traditional games discussion on the board.I told you faggots that you were parasites, the mods finally listened, and I'm so thankful for that. Because the failure of /qst/ proves quests have no purpose, no soul, no reason to exist unless they can sabotage and suck the life out of other boards. Begone and stay gone. /tg/ has finally begun to heal and I hope your slimy scummy board engagement slop never returns.
>>96529251>>96529149It's almost sunset when you, sir Muttaniel of Burgerlandia, cross the village's wooden gate.Distant sounds of gunshots can be heard emanating from the local orc ghetto. After the guard has checked your bags to make sure you are not hiding one of those damn greennecks foreign laborers, you are allowed in.Weary and hungry, you approach the local inn to finally dine on some goyslop. From inside the tavern you can hear other patrons clapping and chanting in drunken hilarity. You unwrap your cloak and ponder on what to do.

These seem to be the most popular ways of doing armor in games. Which do you prefer and why? What are good alternatives you've seen?
>>96527879>Brigandine is torso armour.Wrong. Kill yourself NOW>leather backed with five non-adjacent steel strips>he thinks this is studded leatherCongratulations, you just discovered splint mail. Kill yourself NOW>>96522660>>96528105Jerkins, buff coats, doublets etc were worn UNDER plate except for /fa/ reasons and are analogous to the gambeson, but definitely better as a "light armor" option than gimp biker leather armor in 99.9% of fantasy today.>>96527987I was mostly joking, I prefer maille when referring to "chainmail" and "mail" when referring to scale mail or other kinds of mail because autism.

>>96527418You fucking do. Swords aren’t fucking Kitchen knives. The shit they were using was shit steel. They had to put I extra effort to use their weapons. Like HOLY FUCK have you never used a bad kitchen knife before? Do you not know that a bad knife would struggle cutting through fucking melons and pumpkins. Here’s another reason why steel isn’t armor anymore. Firearms will kill a guy despite that guy wearing steel armor. I guess steel isn’t armor anymore. AND you don’t even need to put any effort or power in those things.
>>96528885You know you can just buy a sword and try it out yourself. I did.Or simply take a "bad" kitchen knife and hack at something. And no, swords weren't dull. People were aware of the material they were using and knew how to get the most out of it. They would wear fast, but they were wielded by professional or wealthy soldiers, who took care of their stuff (or paid someone to do it). Even conscripts were expected to have equipment in working condition. Besides, one of the nicest things about swords is that you can pierce stuff. Ps: Majority of weapons you'd face on a medieval or ancient battlefield would be spears, pikes and similiar things.

>>96525783I'm definitely feeling the post-trauma from V Mystery Flare in that 30 grades of Dark States cards in bind just to give it the criticalIt feels like there were two teams making the g3 and the g4, and they communicated what they made and then balanced their given card around what the other did at the time without any further communication, resulting in a colossus seemingly balanced around the possibility of being called twice and a weird time stamp dragon seemingly balanced around the possibility of calling an extremely threatening rearguard>"Time Spiral Fist Dragon, Grauwwind Dragon">Grade 3, Twin Drive, Persona Ride>[ACT](VC)1/Turn:COST [Bind a card from soul], choose one of your opponent's rear-guards, put it on the bottom of the deck, and if your opponent's vanguard is grade 3 or greater, this unit gets [Power]+5000 until end of turn.>[AUTO](VC):When this unit attacks a vanguard, COST [Counter Blast (1) & bind two rear-guards], search your deck for up to two unit cards with the sum of their grades being the same as the sum of the grades of the cards bound for this cost, call them to (RC) in the same column as each other, and shuffle the deck.Granted, this can filter two from deck every turn, but it runs into the Liael problem of needing the pieces in deck and can't just grab shit from drop; it feels like Favrneel tried to copy Jet and Estacion and wound up turning into a pre-helgvarr Veissrugr by way of Sacrifice Glass.
