Welcome to the New School Revolution General, the thread dedicated to games derived from the OSR movement

>What is the NSR?
NSR is a subcategory of the OSR, it mostly follows the same play style but experiments further with the mechanics and settings
*broadly NSR games*
*have* a gm, a interesting setting, living world
*are* rules light, deadly
*and focus on* emergent narrative, external interaction and exploration

>What is this thread for?
This thread is for system, adventure, setting, mechanics, ongoing campaigns, anything that related to the *actual* game
POST ART ALSO, inspiration and for the tg threads

>What is this thread NOT for?
Meta discussions or drama of the games and its creators aka shadowboxing with twitter, reddit and the OSRG (frens with osrbros)

well it definitely has a lot of addons to the B/X formula
so it probably can't count as an OSR and is welcome as a NuSR

>Which brings back my question - where is the engaging part of it that?
Assuming he was using Domains of War rules? The part where you play the game and get to decide the outcome of the battle with your own tactical prowess/incompetence?
You do realize war games are a thing right?
>Playing the setting for the sake of the setting
Except the consequences of the battle have an impact on the player characters.
If they win they're heroes of the hour for having taken the time to train those brave militia men who saved the day and gain acclaim, loot, maybe even the servitude of the locals and start their local lord arc.
If they fuck the dog (as they apparently did) then they come back to the gutted remains of a town knowing that on a meta level it's because they fucked up, rather than the DM pulling a JRPG and going 'The town burns down in a cut scene, lmao'

Shit, some people even play wargames just for the kicks, 40k has its own general even.

It baffles me that you don't understand this.
>>
>he's actually going to keep necromancing this shit thread
>>
>>96639008
>instead of using their characters?

... Except the fact that they did use their own characters, save the dude controlling the big evil patron attacking the town, and in fact the defeat was caused by an hilarilus chain of bad decisions combined with bad luck and absolutely horrid tactics. It was a self-inflicted bloodbath I personally find absolutely hilarious.

Why do you assume the worst every time this system is involved? At this point I could describe something standard in, say, AD&D or B/X, and as long as I say that it's happening in ACKS, you will come and scream how bad and dumb it is. And talking about standard practices...

>Playing the setting for the setting's sake

What's the problem with this, if someone did it? Leaving NPC battles to players, or lending them uninvolved patrons, isn't at all uncommon in circles like the BROSR, and if anything, taking the focus away from some small band of heroes to the setting at large is far more in line with true old school campaigns than our current common approach, or have you forgotten that these games are at their core wargames? In high lethality games, in fact, the mindset of setting first it's an outright necessity.

If anything, it's be superior to, like >>96639271 said, just destroying a town for the sake of creating a hook and not involving the players in any way, or contriving some quest where their actions are the sole and vital factor in deciding how the siege ends.
>>
>>96639271
>Assuming he was using Domains of War rules?
Did he say he was? He just said mass combat.
>>
>>96639271
>You do realize war games are a thing right?
You do realize ACKS is fucking abysmal substitute for a war game, right?
That without stating the obvious: mass combat is shit, so who in their right mind would want to play that, especially when handling domain-tier combat?
If they wanted to play war game, then ACKS literally can't cater to that and has just messy mass combat.

>>96639294
He's currently busy with 5 different threads.
I honestly don't understand the cult for this game. It's all the dedication without the ability to tell what the fuck is actually good about the game. Like holy shit, after so many years, you would think they would come up with at least boilder-plate answers, rather "it's good, because I say so and I like it". This works as a throw-away post, not a fucking defense line that you also toe slavishly for at this point three fucking years.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started.

Okay, this is bait, and I'm taking it. It's the exact opposite of what you're saying, Aragorn's ancestry specifically makes him white, because the Numenoreans were the descendants of the good Houses of Men from the north of Middle-earth that fought alongside the Elves in the Wars against Morgoth. They were rewarded for their loyalty by being given Numenor. They're supposed to be uber-whites.

The AI will always have the face fully visible if the prompt includes anything describing your character's face. Your waifu's got a big lens thingy on her forehead, so she's always gonna show it off no matter what else you say in the prompt.

In most TTRPGs, sneaking and hiding are after thoughts handled with a simple stealth check. The only thing I've come across that tries to really expand on it is "Shadowflyght: a stealth supplement for any system."
What else is there? Is there anything that you remember playing that you really enjoyed?

How the fuck does this even work?
I wanted to try giving Twilight 2000 a go, but Im having a hard time finding a group and I don't feel ready yet to be a GM.
Then i noticed some people mentioning that they like playing it solo, but i don't really understand.
Isn't the whole point of this to play with people?
How do you handle being a GM controlling everything trying to kill the player if you are also the payer?
How do you handle the unravelling story of a module or a campaign as a player if you already know it as a GM?
What's really stopping you from fudging your own rolls every time so you win all the time?
Whats the point of roleplaying if you are basically mumbling by yourself?
How do you get fun out of this?
Im not really sure if I should give it a go, or instead just try to do my homework and attempt to be a GM for once.

>cheap cameos but was the first time they did it so it gets excused for some reasom
At the time, we thought Filoni might actually produce more quality episodes.
Cameos were thought to be like they were in teh early MCU, where they'd flash a character to tie things together into an overarcing story.
Disney, of course, had no skill, no clue how to tell a story, hired idiots and proceeded to make Mando S3, Kenobi and BoBF while insulting their own cast, their fans and random bystanders on Xitter.

It's like the whole story of the sequels. It could have been good, if it had been handled by competent people. But Disney, KK, or whoever decided to make it shit and throw various cool ideas, characters and actors under the bus for no reason.

The realms coalesce into a planet that looks exactly like an ahistorical ripoff of Western Europe. Sigmar's legend fades until a twin-tailed comet flies above.

Miniatures suck, are too expensive, take too long to paint, and don't do what minis need to do in tabletop RPGs -- THEY AREN'T MODULAR.

If you start a campaign and your fighter begins with studded leather and a shortsword, you'll probably have splint by level 3 and a great-axe by level 4.

And now your miniature sucks and doesn't look like your character. So instead we need MODULAR minis - like LEGO block minifigures.

I have hundreds of cheap ripoff LEGO minifigs for my 5e 2024 D&D campaign now. They have tradeable armors, weapons, helmets, hair, pants, shields, etc. And the badguy monsters for the campaign are massive and huge (and cheap).

Pic is a $2 custom knight. If my players kill one, they can take the armor and wear it on their minifig, and now their minifigure looks completely different.

(I made a video on the topic but the mods don't want videos posted in /tg/ for some strange reason).

I don't care about a channel. I care about more people having a better way to use miniatures. For instance, a full WH40k army, fully painted, will cost you less than $100 if you use Minifigures instead of Citadel miniatures.

Granted, they don't have a huge selection yet. They have focused mostly on Space Marines and have started making Space Marines captains and leaders.

I've read Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit before I knew what the hell ttrpgs even were. Same with the original Dragonlance books. I second Gemmell. His Drenai novels are my favourites. I read the Rigante and they're fine enough stories, but not my favourites.

And it is true that he tends to write around the same subject and archetypes. Gemmell I think does it rather well, and his books flow very well. They read easily - the language isn't baroque, overwrought, or difficult.

Almost any single bit of media where a spooky horrible person-monster is virtually inmortal as long as their "phylactery" (most of the times some cursed portrait or picture) has roots to this.
Dude looks and acts completely normal at a first glance. You don't find any weird shit about him unless somebody tells you that he hasn't aged in 50 years, and decide to snoop around.

Okay, I'm done. I'm done with DnD. Discord retards broke me.

But I still want my fix of the knight and elf game. What other, presumably better systems do you guys use for the vaguely medieval fantasy games?

Hard mode: No GURPS. I love it but my players are paste eaters. Which would make them perfect GURPS players of course but it also means they don't wanna even try.

Oh, right, I forgot to mention, but it's rather obvious if you know anything about small batches of custom printing:
It took a year long and was so cheap to print, because such orders are done in China. It is actually cheaper to order a print in China and get it shipped back, than try to pull this off State-side. Currently it might be different due to the schizoid tariffs changing every other week, but it was all done long before the rollercoaster started. They would probably run out of money if the start was in November 2024 and delivery in November 2025, so lucky for them.

Given what was presented itt, you want:
>non-d20 games
>can support build autism, doesn't have to
>is not GURPS
>players are dumb as shit
Ubiquity is your system of choice, either as Hollow Earth Expedition or All for One: Regime Diablique. This game is brain-dead simple mechanically, yet supports insanely good build autism (tat is, ironically, purely optional) and has integrated a sliding scale of how crunchy you want to make your game, ranging from near-austic level of crunch to "dude, weed lmao" freeform.
Alternatively, therer is always OVA, but the question is are you running for people who watch anime. Not because it's an anime game (it's a generic universal system that sells itself under anime paintjob), but due to how much screeching they might produce if you put a game with cute anime girls on the cover. Content wise, it's a generic universal system that can support anything, but was made with bullshit shonen full of overpowered characters and to cram it into an actual framework of a game, so fucking figure.

He said no GURPS. DF is GURPS with three extra layers of repackaging, so people with DnD brain rot can handle it, but it's still GURPS
