>>97209071I don't really understand either end of the discussion. I just want to play with my toy soldiers and hang out. That being said enough of my chaos marines are kit bashes with some loyalist bits I can build a fun narrative of the loylaist marine player wanting to kill my dudes to reclaim loyalist wargear or relics and my dudes just doing chaos shit and looting everything they can in the process.
So these guys (stealth suits, if you can't see them)Pretty interesting against a marine team. When the enemy can move + dash + shove a heavy plasma incinerator in your face, stealth becomes a lot less safe. Ended up not controlling much on the objectives, which combined with an equal score on tac op, kill op, and primary meant a final score of 10-15.Definitely not a conclusive game in regards to how balanced they are, I made plenty of mistakes, but the stealth was a lot less oppressive than me or my opponent expected. What I want to see now is how they perform against a 2APL team. Losing that extra dash to reach enemies, and not having the same super reliable kill shots that a team like deathwatch has, might make these sneakers a much less fun team to face. I need to see it to confirm it though.

>author adapts his D&D campaign into a well-written, highly-entertaining animated seriesWhy has nobody done this since?
>>97215689To be fair, that was mainly because the web novel took place entirely from the shield hero’s pov, which was admittedly extremely vindictive, petty, self-pitying and outright delusional. So the wholesome heckin slave lord narrative wasn’t there initially, since we got to see the shield hero’s rather ruthless and practical viewpoint behind all his seemingly benevolent actions. It also makes the whole “slave grows up into a hot young adult in a couple weeks” thing far less of a problem by showing he genuinely didn’t notice a difference at first due to obsessing over his own problems and not registering his slave as a person for a while. In fact, all the people saying how beautiful his raccoon girl slave was and how he was a lucky man just made him think the world was full of pedophiles trying to hook him up with a ten year old.

>>97215779Wasn't meant to help make it more acceptable. I was actually trying to point out something the writer of Shield Hero likely noticed about one of the genre's tropes. Slavery in Isekai is often treated more as adopting a pet you could potentially have sex with rather than a serious social injustice.>>97215784Which is why the Shield Hero web novel is identifiable as a deconstruction while the manga and anime verge more toward standard isekais with an edgy protagonist. Most "fans" of the series don't really get as far as the New Seven Deadly Sins arc which shows just how messed up the MC's actions are.

Without thinking about it, entirely subconsciously, you are trained by Pathfinder and D&D to safeguard your players. You are taught to coddle them! And when does this subconscious teaching happen? Not in ANY dungeon master resource. It happens before your first adventure, before your very first D20 roll.It happens when you create characters. In Pathfinder, character creation takes a ridiculous amount of time. I ran it for about six years, and I saw it take well over an hour, sometimes going up to two for new players. As a GM who understood the system inside and out, I could get it done in about a half hour. Losing a character in a game with such a painstaking character creation process is absolutely devastating. As a GM, you wonder if that person will bother to make a new character, or if they will just leave, and if they do, who will go with them? Will you even have a game afterwards? And enemy statblocks are the same way. You look at these massive text blocks that include three different saving throws, the type of hit dice, types and sub-types of creature, and perhaps most hilariously unnecessary, ALL SIX STATS. Who on earth looks at all that and dares think “I’ll make some monsters of my own!” Please understand, I’m not saying nobody makes their own monsters. I’m saying that it is an undertaking to make a monster with a statblock like that. Figuring out saves, stats, and heaven forbid you want to get CR correct, good luck with testing out that garbage.
>>97215768Pathfinder is unironically one of the worst systems ever made. They took the worst aspects of 3.5e, tripled down on them, and then pozzed it for good measure.

Whi built the dungeon?
>>97191219those aren't dungeons, those are just... dangerous places. what's the point of saying that they are "dungeons"?
in my last setting dungeons were usually leftover holdouts for bandits, or orcs, or goblins, or kobolds.ruins were a separate thing, usually just full of monsters, and a puzzle or two, maybe a giant ancient automaton.but a dungeon was a trap filled slog, usually with very few wild creatures, but a few well designed combat zones that favoured the defenders.they could be built into a cave, or into some ruins, but a dungeon had to be BUILT, usually by the folk who hid there gold/loot there.
The dungeons in my setting are there mainly because of climatic upheavals. The frost giants brought about an ice age to force humans south and expand their own territory. That lasted for centuries before they were driven back and the artifact they used broken. Because of that, mankind is currently reclaiming lost cities and clearing out the strongholds of giants and their allies. The sea level also fell during the ice age, so many new ports had to be built which are now undersea dungeons.
>>97207618>those aren't dungeons, those are just... dangerous places.Let me ask you a powerful question, "What's the difference?">>97207618>what's the point of saying that they are "dungeons"?Mechanical vernacular.

Anyone planning to play any Christmas Specials? One-shots or variations on your regular game? Our group often has a Christmas special of some kind, either some unique silly monsters, or the current party portalled to the North Pole, or some villain stole all their magic items for presents, that kind of thing. What does your group do for the holidays?
>>97215516I have only taken part in one christmas themed game and it was not a good game at all. It seems like it was roughly ripped off from some podcast christmas game the gm sent everyone ahead of time, ended up being a railroad with obviously no mechanical inputs based on dice at the end, didn't really feel like a game. A bit of silly fun being joke animal characters and everyone played along to not hurt his feelings but it was not a thing I would have done if I could have avoided it and holyshit did it take too long.
Here are some holiday-themed monsters for Christmas, Halloween, Easter, etc. that anons can add to their games.https://dm-paul-weber.tumblr.com/post/145528959652/a-70-page-creation-to-add-madness-and-depth-to
Tolkien is to blame for the state of 5e and generic fantasy that you see in TTRPGs. We wouldn't have horrible big fat fantasy books, nor power fantasy / wish fulfilment, which you find in scaling levels through so-called "XP". >>97215825>>97215880Yeah, kinda harder. Some ideas.1) Angels and by extension aasimars aren't necessarily loved by all people - the gods aren't that collaborating2) Aasimars have a tendency to self-immolate for good causes. Theoretically that makes them ascend to being angels and such
>>97215935>I'm not sure what lore can make them more interestingHave Celestials come into conflict with Adventurers more often. Half the time the Party are crossing a thin line between good natured goofs and murderhobo's who will kill if they're slightly inconveniencedAt the end of some campaigns some party members end up becoming so strong that a large Army means nothing to them, if the murderhobo's got into that kind of power it would be bad news for everyone else. Have Celestials be wary of most Adventurers and outright hostile to the more casual-murder types. As a DM acknowledge how callous your Party is and have the Celestials send some grunts to deal with them every so often and perhaps even go to a Celestial Realm to covert assassinate which ever top dog Celestial is trying to halt your progressAlso giving Celestials more designs that aren't just People with Wings and Constructs would probably help. Fiends are interesting because they all have wacky designs
>>97215880You can pull a Sailor Moon easily with the whole divine purpose + handler thing. They exist to be driven towards a story goal (almost always killing the evil). That needs to be the DM's focus, but I guess you could play with the idea of an individual engineered to be the doomslayer having to exist in society.
>>97215979Indirectly calling your players out for playing as bad people causes hurt feelings at the table - that's a cardinal sin that kills games.
>>97215935>That and the fact that Tieflings can be more interesting visually (also hotter) and being an underdog makes for a more interesting character. The visuals are a potential factor, but are ultimately secondary in a tabletop game. But the underdog angle is what really pushes it further than other weird-looking races.>>97215938The point of consideration is how it translates into a player character. People don't really want to play a character who is going to martyr themselves for the first righteous cause they find, because then the character is dead and you're no longer playing. As for a PC not being loved by all...that's really the default for most races, isn't it? But the best case scenario there is that you have NPCs treating the character as if they're stuck-up or privileged. Not exactly a lot to work with.
Why do lawful "good" players get upset when you remind them that all demons are objectively evil, and therefore must be purged?
>>97214217They don't. The ones who get mad are those who can't accept objective alignment i.e. They really hated Frieren.
>>97214217>Its an "all RPGs exist in a comprehensive and internally consistent setting that just happens to conform to my assumptions and preferences" episodeCall me the buddha because if you met me on the road it'd be better to just fucking kill me.
>>97215740I hated Frieren because we go from a fun slice of life show to tournament arc #37474 where a bunch of cardboard cutouts show off their basic bitch superpowers
>>97214217Because that sounds like something a LE demon would tell a LG character in a scheme to eliminate/discourage a faltering fellow demon who is considering trying to ascend back to the angelic ranks into even considering seeking an alternate path.Granted, if the demon fails their ascension and slips back into evil, the LG character is still going to have to bust them (likely literally), but you have to give them a shot at redemption in the case it isn't endangering anyone, since each soul you turn away from the Great Adversary(/ies) is one less resource in his(/their) repertoire, while in most settings destroying a demon's physical body at worse puts them in timeout for later mischief: you can't kill them any more then you can kill a bad idea.Assuming your god is anything like the Abrahamic one in morals. If not, sure, go nuts to whatever their teachings are.
>>97215643Ironically, Christian-type demons are rare precisely because they're not so much a race as they are angelic criminals, which completely changes their context.
Men who make/roleplay female characters, why do you? Why do you think it bothers /tg/ so much?>inb4 I don't because I'm not a faggut, hurr durr
>>97214962have you actually met someone like that or are you just making assumptions
>>97215004Met many, mostly obvious fetish plays. Go post any ad as a GM and see what kind of characters/applicants you get. It's disturbingly common.I also played with one for a while, and was friends with him for years outside of the game too. He played his ideal waifu, fit into the fantasy setting we were playing. It was acceptable solely because he had no off-putting fetish things (basically he was just vanilla). It was still undeniably his waifu and he got constantly teased about it without ever denying it. I have yet to meet or see a single female character (actually played not just theoretical) that didn't fall into this category. If I did, I'd be open to changing my mind. But the pattern has been unerring thus far in my some ~12 years of playing TTRPGs.
>>97214962What do you mean a fetish waifu? I get wanting to make a pretty female character, does it go beyond that?
>>97215717I've specifically seen lolibaba and furry stuff that was unmistakably fetish related. I didn't play with those people though; the ones I have played with (like mentioned) were just playing their idealized version of a woman but with super powers/magic/whatever matches the setting.
>>97139776I look for character art references to give me ideas for concepts. People make interesting-looking pictures of women often because they look good. So I play female characters to use those visuals.
Why is it that so many fantasy writers make their evil cults unjoinable by anyone with a functioning brain cell? Like why would you worship Orcus, whose goal is omnicide? Why would you worship Tzeentch if he’s probably gonna screw YOU over as part of his grand plan? What makes it so bizarre to me is that, firstly, it’s not like they need to be so off-putting to be evil. Orcus is a demon of undeath, his followers want to turn their enemies into the undead. Tzeentch wants the world to be in a constant cycle of chaos, his followers are gonna be masterminding world wars.Secondly, it’s not like we don’t have plenty of examples of real-world evil cults. A lot of cults in the West don’t follow Super-Duper-Mega-Murder Satan, but are fucked-up offshoots of Christianity. Historically, goetia was practiced by people who would’ve still called themselves Christians, while committing rituals to summon and get boons from demons. Plenty of human cultures used to sacrifice humans to their gods, not to summon them to kill everyone or some shit, but to honor and/or appease them.Like to use another example from Warhammer, I think Nurgle and Khorne present more “approachable” evil cults. Nurgle is toxic positivity, and his love will take all the pain away. Khorne is wrapped up in enough language about honor to lure people in.Like to rework an evil deity, let’s pick Lamashtu. Instead of “We love ugliness and miscarriages and also you get to die in childbirth”, the cult targets vulnerable young women and lures them in with divine feminine language (“You have the power to bear and raise great beasts”), while promising the young men of monstrous races frustrated living among humans that what they’re scorned for is what makes them powerful (and also they get to have sex with pretty girls).
>>97160877The thing about the Chaos gods is that they are supposed to embody all aspects of their particular theme not just the negatives.Like Khorne is the god of violence and destruction but he is also the god of martial prowess and warrior's honor, heck I'm not sure if it's still canon but it used to be that his followers killing defenseless innocents would piss off Khorne because there was no glory or skill in it.Slaanesh is the god of extreme degeneracy but he is also the god of things like romance so for example if some kindly couple in the universe falls in love and has a family he also draws strength from it despite it being an act of pure wholesomeness and him ostensibly being an "evil" god.Nurgle is the god not just of death and disease but rebirth and the cycle of life in general.Tzeentch is probably the least outright "bad" of the Chaos gods because he is simply the god of knowledge and wisdom and planning. Not to mention that unlike Khorne, who was born during a period of lots of wars amongst mankind, or Nurgle, who was born during the time of plague, or Slaanesh, who was born due to the Eldar having a galaxy-wide murder-orgy, Tzeentch was born during a time of great scientific advancement in human civilization which is relatively benign compared to the other three.
>>97173471People in real life find solace in all sorts of petty distractions, when you're dirt poor but still have food, shelter, and community, it's not that odd you wouldn't care that some people live better lives than you. Also, those people are distant and very rare, it's far more likely that the most powerful person you'll meet on a regular basis is a town elder or magistrate, or maybe a cleric at a local church. You might not ever even see adventurers pass by, and if you do it's more likely to be weak ones that are above a commoner but not absurdly so.I could see more of outlook like yours being a thing for superhero settings, where elite villains spring up every week and can only be thwarted by a powerful hero like Superman or Spiderman or whatever. Not only do people frequently come into contact with the supernaturally gifted, media coverage shoves it in their face every day. It's extremely hard to feel like you're in control of your destiny when the people of the city are just the playthings of demigods.
>>97160964Fpbp
>>97168286>, don't listen to any bullshit about improving yourself or changing anything... just wallow with us, let us lick your wounds!so blackpillers are irl Nurgle cultists ?
>>97160877As someone from a third world shithole I would unironically appeal to Tzeentch if that meant a plausible way to tear down the people in power here and change the general culture of the people around here
