The whole basic concept is "technocratic corporations use computers and consumerism to create problems for characters to solve". If you want computers and consumerism to create solutions, you'd just have generic science fiction.
It's likes asking "why are there no happy endings in post-apocalyptic fiction? why is everything so dark and chaotic?" Uhhh, that's the point. It's post-apocalyptic. The world got nuked or something, things tend to suck after that in ways that are not easily fixable and thus cause a condition of struggle and conflict which generates stories to tell.

I'll be completing the undivided section of my warriors of chaos army in the coming months with a regiment of chaos warriors with halberds. I managed to snag a sealed box with all the metal bits, so it will be glorious. I'll have to come up with an idea for a banner design too. After that, I'll be spending my leisure time finding and painting the last dozen or so metal chaos warrior/champion models I still want before I start looking for even more 5th ed chaos warriors/knights so I can get started on my marked regiments. Once that's done, my hobby goals will be complete for the foreseeable future. It's not like there will ever be more models released that will fit in with my 5th ed models, right? I already played a good amount of games last year, guess I'll try getting people in my area to give older editions a try.

Cairn is literally just "what if I wanted to play Basic D&D but I was too retarded?". It has no qualities or advantages compared to something like Moldvay, thus can't justify its existence.
>>
I ran Miami 86. For a Cairn hack I have to admit it handled shoot outs much better than expected. I'm not sure how much my players retained it was 80's Miami, I started worrying I was being overbearing when describing random stuff just to help the vibe. Pseudo 80's shit a la Stranger Things kinda killed a lot of things that also existed in the 80's, but that's how vintage goes. Still, I wish the system had something I can't imagine that solves that issue, it's not that it's a bad book but it's hard to run when you need everyone at the table to have a certain cultural reference point.
I still have to see how well it works for longer campaigns. It has some support with NPCs and locations and generators, but I feel it's all a bit weak.
>>
>>97276717
>can't imagine why people would play more than one game

Don't do this. I know you're trying to bait to get a bump. You can do that once or twice a thread, but if you do it a dozen times the thread is just shit and no one wants to be part of it.
This general doesn't need constant posting, it needs new people checking and getting into it.
Go learn from the horror or mecha generals.
>>
>>97278104
While I undersatand your suspicions, I'm sorry to have to inform you that i am 100% sincere and not bumpfagging. Mork Borg (as much as it gets memed on), Mythic Bastionland, Vaults of Vaarn, Black Sword Hack etc. are all games with a sound justification for existing, games that provide something unique of their own. You don't have to value them but the people who do have good reasons for it.

Cairn is like Knave: it's just a half-finished shitbox for people who can't tolerate B/X's roughly thirty pages of rules and that's brainless and contemptible. (And Cairn 2e is like Knave 2e is that it's still just as unfinished but tries to mask that with a profusion of trash tables)

Finally, after teasing it 4 years ago, Duel Masters is getting its "Duelist" card type. As expected, they seem to be the DM equivalent to MtG's Planeswalkers.

So far, they've shown "Vanquish, Artist of Strategy" (pic related, far left).
To summarize his (and by extension, all Duelists') abilities, he's an element (ie. permanent) you play from your hand, and once each turn during your main step, you can use him to freely play a "Duelmate" card from your hyperspatial zone (8 card extra deck of double-faced cards) that has a race matching his "Duelist" ability (in this case, "Vanquish") and costs equal to or less than the cards in your mana zone. Duelists also seem to have some kind of legendary rule where you can't have two of the same Duelist out at the same time.
His second ability is "Duelist Link", where when there are 3 Vanquish Duelmate cards with different names in the battle zone, they can be flipped and combined into a strong creature (see next post).

To summarize his Duelmate cards:
>2 cost 1000 power creature that draws you a card whenever it attacks
>3 cost spell that targets 2 of your opponents creatures, preventing them from attacking or blocking
>4 cost spell that has you look at the top 3 cards of your deck, put one in your hand and the rest in the graveyard

Interestingly some of his Duelmate cards are spells. As far as I know, there are no existing hyperspatial zone cards (psychic or dragheart cards) that are spells. After Duelmate spells get cast, they get put underneath the Duelist in the battle zone, so they can fulfill the condition for Duelist Link.

And here's what you get if your Duelist and Duelmates survive long enough to all be out at once: Gallows Rankma Dragon, Geima Cycle Dragon (translation from the wiki's dedicated autist)
Its abilities:
>Can attack the turn it is linked (so it basically has speed attacker)
>Double Breaker
>When this creature attacks, you may cast a spell from your hand that costs 5 or less for free.
>When this creature would leave the battle zone, instead destroy "Vanquish, Artist of Strategy".

It's strong, but surprisingly not a total insta-win like you might expect from a creature made from combining three other cards.
I think the devs were careful to not make any individual part of Vanquish and his mates too strong. Getting value each turn for such a small cost (2 mana) seems pretty good as it is, but no individual one of his normal Duelmate cards is that strong relative to some of the other powercreeped bullshit in modern Duel Masters that you could get out with similar timing. Geima Dragon would be pretty rough to deal with on turn 4, but you could slow it coming out by killing Vanquish with cheap element-based removal which would put any spells he's cast back into the hyperspatial zone. I find it funny that his 2 cost Duelmate creature only draws a card when it attacks, which opens itself up to being attacked and killed, again slowing down the Duelist Link.
One can only hope Duelists won't end up being broken and twisting the entire metagame around them. I fully expect a bunch of weird combos based around other cards that are able to play cards from the hyperspatial zone without caring about their type (most are limited to only psychic or only dragheart, but I think there are a few that don't care).
Anyway, they seem fun.

>>
>>97277177

Seems pretty interesting. Is there are a lot of generic element removal in the OCG? When I played DMP it seemed most removal was creature focused.

>It's strong, but surprisingly not a total insta-win like you might expect from a creature made from combining three other cards.

This is what stood out to me. 9K double breaker on what seems like turn 4 at the earliest doesn't seem that crazy, especially since there are decks that can get their wincon by turn 3 or 4.

Opens up some cool design space at least.

The rules term "element" is pretty recent actually, from 2023. Generic element removal has been pretty common since then as far as I can tell.
Though even failing that, there is a lot of generic "card" removal from before that point. Pic related's 2 cost spell side lets you destroy any card that costs 3 or less (https://duelmasters.fandom.com/wiki/Bolshack_Superhero_/_Superhero_Time)

In my mind it's not a matter of if but when. I like that they're adding it at all though so happy to see it.

First time I saw "element" I didn't immediately connect that to "permanents" but I found out eventually.

The Earthbound book directly mentions him as an inspiration.
He doesn't quite fit those not being able to reap faith and doesn't have much of a cult that I recall, so I'd just change for a hunter chronicle so he's capable of reaping faith through inflicting fear on children.
Other than that:
>He's interred into the soil, specifically his sewer lair, but his influence extends all over Derry.
>Has access to, at minimum, Contamination, Longing and transfiguration. This would let him appear anywhere in his territory (Derry), read people's greatest fear, then appear adjust his appearance to suit it. Violation, Firmament and Light could also be fitting lores for causing nightmares, taking over thralls remotely and creating illusions. I think it did all of those things, but it's been a while since I've seen the movies/read the book.
>None of these are very combat oriented lores, so a hunter cell who can resist the constant mind fuckery (or a plucky bunch of kids) can power through it.
>Apoc Form is spider like with a bunch of social boosting. Deadlights can be seen as an extension of Face of Terror.
>Urges are mainly Emotion, with some Thought
So basically, he'd be a Socialmaxxed Earthbound. Wouldn't recommend throwing that shit at your hunters.

The experiments are to test the limits of how much the "reality" of the world can be fucked with before people notice too hard.

It starts as a slow creep before the overt stuff happens and everything is thematic to the situation.

butt fuck nowhere USA with perfect white bread american ideal townsfolk? They are all secretly monsters pretending and the uncanny valley ramps up until they mask off.

Random inner city USA? The faceless masses of people will randomly become monsters that hunt you down but non one else notices what's going on or your own presence even as they are attacked in the process.

Typical desert village except you have to hide from some super giant monster that randomly spits out smaller monsters.

Basically, boxed in experiences where the situation decays and forces the PCs to survive as long as possible fore they move on to the next box.

Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

My perfect KDM mod:
>less hunts
>more crafts
>more split between character power and gear power (currently is like 5:95)
>More instadeath like the Murder settlement event, which is like, a whole event and a thing you play around, and less instadeath like any random hunt even "the moquito that bite you had supercancer. You died."
>more tits

>the Murder settlement event, which is like, a whole event and a thing you play around
Can't really play around "flip the top card of the settlement event"; which I hate. On the other hand, I really like the murder event when they add it "1d5 years from now" and wish most instadeath events were similar (stuff like the kingsman curse or antelope aftermath)

Murder i find objectionable because (iirc?) it targets your most experienced returning survivor? That's always a really fucking obnoxious kick in the balls.
I could deal with some random schmuck being done in just fine but the star hunter is annoying.

Assuming my memory isn't faulty we once had murder happen, the murderer got caught, and we got the option where they become the undisputed murder king (queen in that case) of the settlement. That was fun. But
>survivor with the most hunt xp dies.
Will never not be annoying.

Yes the actual target of it is bad, and yes it's just a card flip.
And yes the "add event in x years" is awesome
But the first thing is just a balance thing, like it could be "the lowest XP kills the highest XP, add takes half his xp/split his xp between the other survivors that catch the murder" it can be made fine
and for being a card flip, I see it as a settlement inevitability, it has settlement consequences, even if it's a card flip, it's a thing that can happen and it's how that affects your settlement/story, and what they do about it, it leads to something, it's a storybuilding effect
I would be fine with a card that says "the oldest person over X hunt xp in the settlement, has died of old age", things happen, what does your settlement do about it
I wouldn't be fine with a random event saying "if you are old over X hunt xp you die"

Could do what community edition did and say "when you draw this card, put it on the timeline for next year" so you have time to bring out your most valuable survivors.

>using rules
we all take the core of 5e (d20 adv/dis no scaling) and build our own shit on top of it
nobody is even using "raw 2014" in the first place
grabbing some stuff from 2024 is just like the homebrewing and tweaking everyone's been doing for 10 years

i mean raw of either versions is fundamentally broken and stupid. "i attack the clay pot, i have advantage because im invisible"

One of my players found a wooden frame kit on Amazon, stained the wood, and then commissioned, printed, and laminated portraits of the PCs. Probably one of the coolest things I've ever had done for a campaign.

How do I keep track of the characters? It’s such a weird thing to ignore. Just throw a name and picture onto the screen like every other Channel does

All D&D characters are self inserts. That's the point of the game. You are a player, not the writer, and there's nothing wrong with that. In its proper definition too, and not merely being powerful, you pretentious twit.

>You are a player, not the writer
You got that part right, at least.
>Liam writes that his PC "used to be Evil" but became good
>his PC hides items from the others and tries to get them killed because the PLAYER is an asshole.

Can't tell if you are trying to defend CR's collaborative storytelling (as opposed to a Role-playing game) or not. Seems like you want to have it both ways. Not surprised.

>Liam's gay, sadboy PC must suckle at the tit of Laura's PC because he not only misses his DEEEEEAD husband, and DEEEEEAD pet, but his DEEEEEAD mother. He has regressed that far due to all his pain.

Role-play of the highest order.

How's he going perv on Laura now though? Everything's fine on his side. His character's a faggy theatre type (gay) with a dead brother (sad). Masterful. But she's 4 inches tall.

liamposter desperate for attention again, new year and he's still gunna devote it to parasocial pining.

>Bgg for components , rulebook for how it plays like a real boardgamer
I like to see how the game looks and have a brief overview. It helps me when reading the rules - some are not that good.
>>
>>97270384
>Carnagie, Tiletum, GWT Argentina, Endless winter, Flamecraft, Libertalia 2ed, Lacrimosa, Weather machine, Mosaic, Ahoy, Encyclopedia, Cat in the box
Cat in the box was very popular but I guess the onslaught of new tricktakers killed it. Also, maybe I'm misremembering but I think there was online/yt buzz about Encyclopedia being goty when it came out and that died in a week.

>Bloodstones, ICE, Darwins Journey, Nucleum, Distilled, Apiary, Expeditions, Kutna Hora, Daybreak, Evacuation, The fox experiment, Septima, Arborea, Last light
Nucleum is good. It's just less elegant compared to brass games. But it had some neat ideas. Really wanted Bloodstones but the rounded tile stacking on too small areas on the board killed my interest.
>>
>>97277948
It really is just pretentious nonsense for the kind of person who simultaneously can't think for themselves and the idea of reading a rulebook to understand a game is too complex for them, but also wants to feel superior by consuming le intellectual reviewer content. I genuinely pity them trying to fill the void of being nogamers by reading such drivel to try and feel superior to some kid playing monopoly and enjoying it

>>97278230
Bloodstones was right on my radar as something gentler to get my non wargamers more into that side, but holy crap was it just a boring uninspired game. If it wasnt for the production, it would be target shelf level forgotten generic crap
