What would a "Dark" equivalent to gnomes be like? How do you corrupt a little jolly bearded man from the woods into something evil?

Maybe the Drathnelar or umbral gnomes. Not always evil, but they are more like Fey, either coldly alien or violently manic.

quick rundown?
>>
Funny emoug, in his early drafts, Tolkiactually used the word "Gnome" to describe Elves, not Dwarves.

The "Wise" Gnomes: Tolkien liked the word because it sounds like the Greek gnome (intelligence/wisdom). In his early Book of Lost Tales, the Noldor (the most intellectual and craft-oriented Elves) were called "Gnomes." He eventually stopped using the word because popular folklore (influenced by 16th-century alchemy and Victorian garden gnomes) had turned "Gnomes" into small, earth-dwelling, often comical spirits.

In general folklore, the lines between dwarves, gnomes, and kobolds were very blurry. Both were earth-spirits who lived underground. However, Tolkien specifically moved his Dwarves away from the "gnome" archetype.

Almost every dwarf name in The Hobbit (Thorin, Fili, Kili, etc.) and even the name "Gandalf" was taken directly from a list called the Dvergatal (Catalogue of Dwarves) in the Old Norse poem Vöouspa. The idea of dwarves as master smiths living underground, associated with stone and mining, comes straight from the Norse dvergar. The "Greed", The "dragon-sickness" or obsession with gold mirrors the Norse dwarf Andvari, who guarded a cursed hoard.

What he invented (The "Modern" Dwarf):

Tolkien gave them a secret language (Khuzdul) and a deep internal history. He famously compared the Dwarves' history dispossessed of their homeland and wandering among other nations to that of the Jewish people, which added a layer of solemnity and tragedy not found in most folklore. Before Tolkien, dwarves were often portrayed as ugly, maggot-like, or purely mischievous. Tolkien made them brawny, honorable, and formidable warriors. He intentionally used "Dwarves" (plural) and "Dwarvish" instead of the then-standard "Dwarfs" to distinguish his "elder race" from the "dwarfs" of nursery tales and Snow White.

Could probably be doable to replace with a resin-printed chain rifle if needed.
>>
>>97360977
I agree these are better than the previous especially since none of these are in dumb running poses with their helmet raised. Just surprised since the models aren't that old. More surprised by the Ariadna support pack resculpt.
>two shotguns
been awhile since I took a look at this game. Aren't shotguns just DTWs now? What would be the point of having Chain rifles and shotguns in the same unit.
>Also, do I spy a return to 4-model unified boxes instead of mixed soup repacks?
That would be good news, but it might just be because Kuang shi are just known to be spammed.

Yes. If you look on the store, when in the product description it says "thermoplastic" it's siocast, "plastic resin" it's unicool

Guys, I ran into rather problematic situation. I got Marut from one of my country shops but when package arrived, turned out that he is missing his gun/arm part, having some other TAG leg instead but box is also missing quality control number. I don't know if CB would even accept misspack without one. What to do?

They usually do. Just take good photos, email them and explain the situation. Be aware that they might not answer and the part may randomly appear in your mailbox two weeks later.

Must the Cherion Group always be played in an antagonist role? Could there be a way they could be treated as the good guys in some way? Not a fan of how they always write it in the books like "you're the bad guy, you do it only for profit".
I'd love a chronicle that has Network Zero recon and interviewers, Null Mysteriis researchers and Cherion Group field control working to understand the supernaturals.
Also the research Cherion makes doesn't seem serious compared to Taskforce: Valkyrie or Null Mysteriis. Feels more like they just dissect the monster and take what works without understanding it.
>>
>>97361346
Aren't they sorta tolerated by the Beast Courts for some reason?
They always seemed like a weird inclusion when there's already a "wyrmist but not completely evil" faction of Ananasi, the Anatara do the whole "wyrm-corrupted" thing too and are just less Asian about it, and even the name was already taken by the Kumoti, who are the Wyld-aligned ones to begin with.

Duelists are just normal cards that go in your deck, but once you play them, they stay on the field and can play something from your hyperspatial zone (extra deck that's always revealed) for free once per turn. They're basically MtG planeswalkers but instead of their abilities being printed on the card, the abilities are separate cards.
How good she is comes down to what cards she's allowed to play, which hasn't been revealed yet. We've seen the water and light Duelist so far, and they seem pretty good but not insane. But they're 2 cost, and this darkness one is 3 cost, so maybe she'll do something crazy.

I play lion, dragon and Xenos rampant with my 6-year old son. They are fun and simple wargames that allow me to use the models that I have and get a reasonably big game wrapped up in an hour or so without me having to leave the house. There is also less to memorize, as all rules for units are contained in the same volume, so there aren't really any "gotchas". However, these are not really tightly balanced games, but beer-and-pretzels affairs.
Another drawback is aesthetic, the game systems do not really support blocks of infantry and cavalry, the visual spectacle I expect from TOW. The playerbase is also tiny compared to TOW, which is a small game by GW standards.

gaslands for the obvious car kitbashing and junkification, frostgrave just to see if i end up playing something, its also a cool (pun intended) setting

>Why should I homebrew?
/tg/ products are fairly unique in that it's actually pretty simple to make them these days, with a plethora of products to assist in making and playtesting your game. Making your own games helps understand why games are made the way they are, as well as being fun to do.

>What you should post
Ideas for games, games you're currently making, updates to your own games in broad strokes, and any homebrewing for existing products that don't get much attention. Discussion about the above is welcome. Post good, be good, and look over others products, they care if someone looks more than anything.

Making a one shot for my LGS

These guys run pretty hard (But they're very forgiving and appreciate effort), I'm a newbie DM and my first one shot I was a dumbass and thought "Oh just use the CR rating in the book and that should be good, i'll make it "Hard" to give them a challenge..." they steamrolled it of course

So I'm looking through the monster manual for a cool monster to build an adventure around. Hags caught my eye. They look pretty tough, have a cool story (I can make it a village and they can meet a 12yo girl thats about to turn 13...iykyk)

so yeah 5 level 3 characters min/maxed vs a coven of 3 hags. Is that going to be a good match up?
>>
What system, 5e? I assume so.
Gotta pick a kind of hag too! I recommend Volo's Guide for more info on them.
>>
>>97359583
Shoot, thought I mentioned that, yet 5e
I was thinking 2 greens a night hag to be the boss

2 encounter campagin

1 mildly easy encounter just to rough them up a bit outside town

they get to town, do some investigating, sleep for the night to get a rest to full *(and a dream sequence with the night hag fucking with them in their sleep)

they find the coven and throw down
>>
>>97359581
Any hag beyond green will probably annihilate them unless they cheese it by out-speeding and out-ranging them (something like a team of all kensei monks, who knows).

CR is fine, just too easy. Make the encounter around deadly and give the hag some tricks from her lair. Stuff like knowing where her teleports and back exits are to escape, or releasing a pack of quasits or sprites to slow them down while she runs out the back door.

Remember, you can always pull a punch that hits too hard. Its much harder to toughen something that's weak

Why can't Druids wield bows?

>bow: wood
>arrow: wood
>arrowhead: bone or flint

Even crossbows can be made wholly of wood and shoot bone-tipped bolts. If anything, making these things actually requires very good understanding of trees and properties of wood.
Regardless of all that, the whole non-metal theme is a meme. If you can cook stuff in a bronze cauldron, you should be allowed to use a bronze helmet too.

>>
Well traditionally bows are hunting weapons. A druid of races with natural affinity for bows can use them. Crossbows were weapons of war. The metal restriction is/was for armor and shields. They were going for a theme.

DCC and Castles and Crusades have the most 3.x DNA imo.
>>
>>97357928
i think someone will find a way. yes i agree on the emerging gameplay part but it does not need that many combinations to get out of hand.
and with the way it is handled sometimes it is even unnecessary. someone ran calculations on exalted i think and found that certain combos just average to 1 damage for a bazillion dice thrown. at that point why bother
>>
>>97357928
I think 3.x is most fun from level 3-15, but really 5-11.

I like build variety and not every build has to be equally viable/strong. Every build should have some power, yes, but not every game should devolve (or evolve) into 3-6 demigods trampling all over everyone

>I might be retarded
Probably.

No. It's derived from the 3.x SRDs, but it has completely different goals. DCC is a mock parody of how hardcore old-school games supposedly were. 3.5e is "there's a rule for everything".

I actually enjoy the lore video when I’m building models. It helps me amped up for painting/playing. I get why they draw the wrong crowd though.

GW could make a killing if they made another spinoff called “Battle For Terra” or something. Make it all on a folding game board with premade, even more miniature models/sets. Cull the army list down to Ultramarines, Black Templar, Deathwatch, Chaos Marines (general), Tyranids and Orks. Then have simple higher/lower rollfest rules with very little modifications for the room temperature IQ LARPsquad. Throw in some token characters from the video game and wa la.
