Oh yeah that conversation! I admittedly talked about the HRE a few more times in the past here as well.
I held onto Hochland since I stumbled onto Warhammer Fantasy as a kid, and haven't really let go. The forest aesthetic and the uniforms probably did me in, but I like the tiny bit of lore we have on them as well.

On that note, Hochland got mentioned a grand total of FOUR times in that new RPG set! And not only that, the Aldebrands also got mentioned FOUR times, and the small town of Gruyden got a (rehashed) lore summary! I might just as well celebrate tonight, this is the last time we're getting any meaningful information on the province until the 40s.

I think it's a little bit like what >>97371601 says, but in the case of Warhammer we're talking about a part of the hobby that has turned into a """high prestige""" hobby for turbonerds and tabletop WAACs, who derive their self-perceived status from the fact that they're good at Warhammer.

The insane thing is that we're talking about a (for a very large part) luck-based dice game played by a tiny minority of people on this planet. Sure, nowadays I don't really come across a lot of people that look down on Warhammer, but it's not as if it's footie in any way in the respect in garners. Yet, like those overly expensive card games, it's attracting the absolute worst kind of nerdy guys that got bullied in high school and want to "win" at something.

It also doesn't help that GW releases rulesets that are very easily bended or "misread", and from the online consensus about cheating half the organisers are either insecure 'tists that don't want to confront a player, or are in on the cheating themselves.

this is especially egregious with the "this digimon may attack effects" as you mentioned.
most of the time this is the problem, a lot of people play this wrong in person as well and sometimes make mistakes about it, but its usually pretty minor, dcgo does it in a lot of really bad ways.

for example if you jogress into aegisdramon with plesiomon effect, you would attack before aegisdramonas when digivolving would even activate, since you are still resolving the plesio effect.
but DCGO makes you do the when digivolving and all other effects from the evo and what it plays out on play before resolving the attack from the plesio effect.
so aegisdramon on dcgo just doesn't get to unsuspend it self from its on evo playing out a seadra and you miss out on like 1/3 of your attacks from the jogress.
chaosdramon has the same issue but its less relevant for the deck because the timing it resolves them doesn't really matter

the omnimon + matt & tai issue I think got fixed but it was a brute force solution that didn't actually fix why it was happening.
they have some problems with vortex eot ordering as well

To be fair that's because there ARE interruptive effects in digimon and those fuckups are basically concessions to the fact that they had to code for interruptives (protection mostly)

yeah but interruptive effects are uncommon enough that you can just specifically flag them and don't let other effects activate.
this is only a problem if you didn't think through what you were making and these were band-aids to late additions to the game you needed to design around to make work, which isn't the case at all. you know interruptive effects exist, you should design you sim around them, no other card game simulators have this issue despite having more complex state based activation.

this isn't an "oops an off by 1 error snuck through" its a failure at the fundamental design level

I think Artifacts should be a pretty varied bunch, but I don't think you can go too gaudy with them. Japanese samurai armor with a bit of bling added is a good inspiration, I think. Some late Medieval/early modern plate armor is pretty cool, too, already intricate and aesthetic, just make it out of orichalcum or jade at it's already a fine Artifact. I'd also say that it's fine to look for inspiration from things that aren't armor. I'm talking about stuff like voluminous courtly robes made out of blue jade chainmail, supernaturally light and moving like clothe would but as sturdy as any Artifact armor is, or a dress of cloth-of-moonsilver, or something like that. Not Silken Armor, but clothing-inspired armor made of magical materials, obviously impossible to make out of mundane materials.

Should be vs is - a difficult conundrum here, since I think armor should be way better than it is. In terms of gaudiness it's probably about right - color and shine everywhere, artisanal work that changes style with the eras as the default, but with the grit and practicality of functional work underlining all of it. I don't think chainmail bikinis or other plainly bad impractical designs should be a thing in Exalted without further justification.

I think artifact armor should be fairly damn ridiculously effective, in that I think stapling indestructible plates to your skin should mean you're the next best thing to indestructible. At the very least you should be taking bruises from being pushed around, instead of cuts from having things pushed through you. I would not complain if, instead of adding soak and hardness to the player, armor used the object destruction rules from 2e, wherein you have to 'break/damage' armor before you can hit the person underneath it. In this way it would act sort of like 3e's Warstriders with their ablative health levels, which I think were an excellent way to present artifact armor if only they weren't attached to the literal peak of artificing in the setting instead of the basic armors.

If this doesn't sound balanced, then in the name of fairness, I'll point out that I don't think artifact weapons do enough over their mundane cousins either. They're hunks of super-heavy metal that've been lightened only for their wielder. A daiklave should hit like a loader's scoop and a dire goremaul's love tap should be compared to buses. All weapons should have some kind of bonus beyond direct statistical advantages, along the lines of Death at the Root or the Daiklave of Conquest.

How much would/should changing the default setting from High Medieval to Late Bronze Age change the game?

Even if you wanted to use D&D for this for some reason, you could pretty safely just remove heavy armor, and then make it so any class with proficiency in heavy armor can use Strength in place of Dex when calculating AC for medium armor along with getting the Defense fighting style for free.

Nothing else about the game really changes as a result. Certainly nothing that meaningfully changes the balance of the game anyway.

There are many folks who only know D&D and therefore want to use it for everything.
Runequest and Glorantha are an excellent choice if you want to play in *a* bronze age setting, but if you want to create your own, GURPS or Mythras might be a better choice, since Runequest is extremely tied to Glorantha in its current form (and mostly Dragon Pass and Prax).
There's also Jackals as an explicitely Bronze Age game which is also BRP based, just like RuneQuest and Mythras.
Hyboria, Barsaive and Athas also have strong Bronze Age vibes.

Unless there's something I'm missing, in 5.24e if you take the Hide Action and succeed the DC 15 Stealth roll, you're Invisible until you make a loud enough sound, attack, cast a spell with a verbal component, an enemy with Blindsight/Truesight/See Invisibility has line of sight on you within their special senses range, OR any enemy takes the Search Action (Perception) and meets or exceeds your Stealth Roll total/DC. Wouldn't this mean you could just stealth and wander about really quietly, like it's BG3? Get Advantage on most fights unless something's got a special sight that can catch the group?

Would depend on how exactly is it inherited.
If it's gene-like, or has an outright genetic component, then yes, like the good goy above said.
If it's some sort of bloodline blessing/curse, then it's more lax, but still favoring a clan-like structure.

A more curious take could be something like willingly passing the magic talent to the next generation.
To avoid said talent eventually going extinct, think of it more as investing a portion of one's power. Like planting a seed.
Whether or not it'll grow will depend on the recipient, with the amount of invested power increasing potential for that growth.
I think this makes for a more interesting dynamic between mages and their apprentices.
As well as adding some intrigue and power play to the powerful mages' families.

I'm getting back into Kill Team after a few years and found a box of all the terrain they sold in 1st edition including the original starters massive 40k terrain and all the shit like trenches given away with kill teams to clear stock.

My question is how much of that is actually worth it with nu kill team? seems like most teams are going to be five models on average and sure those L shapes of mechanicus terrain can have a place along the typhon stuff but a lot of this feels way too big for modern Kill Team.

Would it be better to stick with my necromunda stuff considering the model count?

Overall I really prefer it. The core rules are so much better where they actually changed them. Monsters feel like proper monsters now. You can’t mix and match with lists like before, which for some people is a negative, but for me it’s a positive. Yes you are locked out of some combos now but balancing allies before was painful.
If you’re coming from any mainline GW game, you can expect MESBG to feel way more balanced than games you are used to playing, and within a few games you’ll quickly realize how much more skill tends to matter in MESBG.

Thanks for the feedback, I was always interested in the skirmish model, so the game felt like a good alternative to mordheim for the times when I wanted something different.

It's not worth much, the killzones are all bespoke now and have predone arrangements. Super nice for Horus Heresy or Necromunda though. Current edition of Kill Team is honestly a tournament-focused game (and it does it better than 40k).

None of this sounds familiar. Do you have pictures? The Wall of Martyrs is the only trench-like official terrain I remember. I do not recall GW "giving away" terrain with Kill Teams at any point, and it doesn't sound like a normal GW practice.
