Organizers was his friend so they allowed the stupidity. As a response I made a Sister of Battle list with Celestine and Seraphines with meltas tailor made to nuke a knight a turn. Guy is still salty to this day about it.

>>96645281They're not exceptional like anon says desu. The rule of thumb is to paint darker shadows towards the lightsource and as the light passes through the gem the color escapes with the light. So, in your examples, the lighter blues ought to be facing away from the specular highlight (the reflection of the lightsource/that white dot). Looks like that lightsource is a bit confused. You have that spec. highlight, but an additional one from below as well in the "crescent shape". The attached pic is a bit exaggerated but it's to highlight the theory. But there are many ways to arrange the lightsource, and all sorts of different methods and styles of gems (you can glosscoat them. glaze color over metallic, etcetc). Also I do recommend looking for visual guides on youtube like duncan rhodes. Just make sure it's consistent with the rest of the model you're painting. Additionally, you do need to work with thinner paint to get better blending. Once you think like you've got it down and feeling spicy, you can try out other lightsources like bounce light. Also I mean no offense or anything like that. I'm just a blunt person.

The way I always understood it was the light passes through the gem and hits the other side of it as it passes through the medium, thats why there's two light hotspots. I wasnt trying to do bounce light from other nearby materials.
