They were always the same. His name was Megatronus Prime, then he was stripped of his rank and name after he disgraced himself, becoming known as 'The Fallen Prime'. That was always his story, though the details of what he did to get himself kicked out of the 13 varies from canon to canon.

>>
>>11215822
>i thought he was a great decepticon hero or whatever. it seems bizarre megatron would name himself after a fallen prime.
The Decepticon movement was based off of Megatronus' teachings and ideals - his whole mindset was Might Makes Right. Megatron naming himself after him is the equivalent of a devil worshipper claiming Lucifer did nothing wrong, then declaring himself to be the devil to invoke his ideology in his fellow cultists.
>>
Wanting to add a G1-esque Megatron to my collection. Thinking of just getting the new TF One Deluxe. Any other recommendations that could be better that is in the same price range? I'm open to knockoffs.
>>
>>11215822
Beast Wars already established "Megatron" was a mythological name written in the Covenant. Hasbro just combined that idea with the Fallen's lore.
>>
>>11215844
and then when he became properly bad, he cut off the 'us' liek I don't get it
>>11215847
that's not how I remember it. but I'm realizing that I'm mixing a lot of TF Prime in here, and that was a different version of the backstory. and I might have been mixing up 'guy megatron named himself after' with 'name megatron was previously using when he was a big hero'

Its crazy to me that the youtube show for the new Takara line is going to be the first original TF anime in over a decade. Feels long overdue honestly. No expectations, fully prepared for CGI robots but if it's 2D I don't care about anything else I will be watching
>>
>>11215820
I'm trying to remember how the Aligned version went
Megatronus liked Solus but Solus liked Prima
Stuff happens and Liege Maximo ends up tricking Megatronus into killing Solus
Then Megatronus self exiles
The most dindu version of the story

>>11215862
I'm expecting GO! quality at best
>>
According to tfwiki, "Megatronus" was introduced by the Aligned continuity, which referenced pretty much every previous continuity. Although not directly referenced, the Covenant of Primus "Megatron" was used as the basis for this new name.
>>
>>11215844
Early on in the aligned verse they wanted to make Megatronus more of a tragic figure. Liege Maximo was supposed to be Robot Lucifer. Then they sort of changed their minds and swapped the two, where the Fallen was the big bad prime and Liege was a petty trickster.
>>
>>11215867
Huh..
but wasn't aligned... sort of made up? like there is no fiction that.. aligns.. with aligned, is there?
>>
>>11215867
Which is dumb because the original point was that the Megatron in the covenant was actually BW Megatron in a self referencing prophecy.
>>
>>11215866

It's technically what Prime and RiD2015 draw from(loosely) and RiD used Megatronus
>>
>>11215895
I can see they’ve got his name as Optimus Prime instead of Convoy
>>
>>11215931
It has been like that since the 2007 movie. Only things using Convoy were remakes.
>>
>>11215753
The last show with beasts (Zyuohger) bombed though and they really haven't done a purely animal series like Gaoranger since (not withstanding a purely insect based series like Kngohger).
>>
>>11215895
So it looks like the animal just turns into a weapon, not quite a full arm, and you Megatron or Optimus gains horns and that's it

Aaron Archer and the old Haslab era (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/HasLab_(Hasbro_department) )before Prime bombed and they disbanded the Haslab group. That's when concepts like the 13 Prime, Thundertron and the Star Seekers and the Lords of Deception were created.

>>
>>11215901
He didn't. Archer has said as much, which is why he and Hasbro repurposed it for the Unicron Trilogy and later the Aligned Continuity.
>>
>>11215944
so this was not in any tv show or toy packaging? because those are where you put lore. not.. whatever this is

Got a Star Raider Thundertron (by itself). First time really handling the mold, outside of buying a few copies of the voyager to then sell without accesories (this was stated in the listings and pictures).

It looks pretty good in person, the colors are vibrant, reminds me of Takara's LG line. Thundertron is a neat looking figure, but clunky:

-Articulation is limited in some spots (like the hands can't turn a certain way well, head barely moves without colliding with everything or the hip swivels being a pain in the ass in beast mode thanks to the side skirts).
-You don't get much waist swivel unless you unpeg the back.
-The peg leg in general. I don't hate it, but it wouldn't have been impossible to add an hinge for the ankle.

Aside from that, my personal favorite thing is the fore leg on the shoulder, you can do polarclaws claw gimmick with both shoulders while in robot mode and it rocks. You can also put the sword in the beast mode mouth since the hinge there is strong enough to hold it, along with big enough teeth to secure it in place.

If you can ignore the above issues, it's a pretty fun toy.
>>
>>11215990
Unicron trilogy was before that went into effect, so yeah, those are still Convoy. If the toy has any fiction related to G1, they tend to use Convoy. It's why Legacy releases kept the western name, if it's not in G1 fiction or UT, then they get western names.
>>
>>11215988
Still pretty solid, I'd say. The biggest annoyances are that he's not really all that spherical and his kibble wings in robot mode are always kinda in the way. They can come off pretty easily though. But the articulation is still pretty comparable to modern figures. I'd say the biggest thing to look out for is that chest missile gimmick, that thing has some powerful springs in its mechanism that have absolutely won out over the plastic keeping it in place over time, so it isn't uncommon to see old figures where the chest doesn't lock in anymore.
>>
Not really feeling Devastator, my biggest issue is really the torso above the waist. It's too wide and it just throws off the proportions.
>>
>>11215804
Enjoyer located. Destroy.

Anyways how is Bee? I told myself I wouldn't go deeper into 86 than Prime and Megs and probably Devastator. But the fun I have with Animated Bee seems like I'd have the same fun with 86.
>>
Any pics of the new d3vestator completed?
>>
>>11216069
Grey model
>>
>>11216067
Not him, but my opinions are mixed. I needed to get another copy because the first had issues:

-Left leg had the connecting tab for the vehicle mode bent, so it couldn't transform.
-Left arm swivel just pops off
-Bad face paint

After getting another and cobbling a good one out of them, I can say that transforming it is fun and it posses well. Ignoring the wrong vehicle mode, the only complaint about the toy is the skinny thighs. Had they done the leg transformation differently, they could have bulked up those thighs enough to match the previous bee.

If it helps, it goes on sale often and I've seen it as low as 16 on ebay.

It's very weird. The proportions on the last one were pretty decent in combined mode, the main issue was the arms being comically small. The new one is only slightly better in the arm department, but now the torso is too wide. I'll try doing an awful shop to see if show what I mean.

Head's fine. If you leave it the same size and only resize the torso above the hips, this is how it looks. Yes, the hips are now too wide, but the torso being shrunk a bit really helps his profile.

Having just messed with SS ROTF Skipjack (lovely experience), I'm of the opinion that we need to kick off the geewun accuracy and just add 2-3 more guys to make a kibble-less/light Devy

I got the add on kit for CW Devy which fixed most of the problems except for Long Haul's arms. I have no clue why Hasbro couldnt make those more poseable. They don't do anything in any other mode that they needed to be compromised.

For a brief moment, I assumed the commander Constructicons pack would include the drill when they talked about additional crap for value...until I realized they're including an additional "vehicle" for the pants. Also, with how it parts forms, I'm shocked the Devy head is so small, they can afford to make it bigger if it parts forms.

For me, its more of a Leadfoot with bonus fossilizer than a proper 2 pack. Masterdominus is unfortunately too floppy to keep in any fun poses.

Metallic blue is very slick on Leadfoot, I like it quite a bit.
>>
>>
Despite being a floppy mess, Masterdominus did grow on me. He looks pretty cool and the tusks really help complete his appearance.
I dislike whatevers going on with the hands so I wish the tusks could have been split to have one for each and help obscure them a bit more.

The matte black is a good look and matches the bones pretty well but chips way too easily so that sucks.
Overall he's fairly decent, your average fossilizer.

>it seems bizarre megatron would name himself after a fallen prime.
I mean, there are people in the world right now named Achilles despite Achilles *not* being a good guy or a hero (in the modern sense) in the Iliad. Hell even in Homer's time you weren't supposed to like or sympathize with the guy; at one point in the Iliad he is referred to as "Sirius", the brightest star in the sky at the time and a sign of evil to the ancient Greeks.

So it's not completely without precedent.
>>
>>11215925
The Aligned continuity also includes the War and Fall of Cybertron video games (and Rise of the Dark Spark, but we don't think about that one), as well as Rescue Bots and Rescue Bots Academy, a trio of novels (Exodus, Exiles, Retribution), a bunch of comics, and some other stuff. Basically it was the default non-movie continuity between about 2010 and 2015 or so.

IIRC the logic was that Dinobots were made good guys because kids love dinosaurs while the constructicons were made bad guys because of two big reasons: the autobots outnumbered the Deceptions 2 to 1 so this doubled the number of Deceptions, combined with giving the Deceptions a giant combined robot that could bear up all dozen plus wave obbe Autobots

Wife has crohn's disease. He was laid off. No more insurance benefits. Treatments are expensive without insurance coverage. Lack of treatments could lead to complications requiring surgery. Surgery is also expensive without insurance coverage. Not hard to see why even someone who worked in such a position would be in financial trouble after being blindsided by layoffs if they had these medical expenses.
>>
>>11216709
Insurance is linked to jobs, anon.
American medical care is priced in such a way that people without insurance will have a near impossible time paying off the cost. The prices are all made up. The medicine his wife needs is probably pennies to manufacture but is sold for hundreds, of which insurance would "pay" most of that(literal thousands of dollars), however the payment is all in credit and not cash, i.e. it's all fucking made up.Therapies are also expensive without medicine.
>Unfortunately, a single dosage (2 months) of Skyrizi costs $21,017.34. Without it to stabilize her Crohn’s, she runs the risk of another Abdominal Surgery which costs an average of $114,000.
Don't care how much you saved up,10,500 for medicine a month will deplete savings fast.

I've said it before and will likely continue to say it until the end of /tfg/, but how do you people not all have a bottle of floor polish or acrylic clearcoat at the ready to fix loose joints? It's been a problem on almost every line I've bought figures from since Thrilling 30. During Prime Wars, almost everything I bought had tons of loose joints right out of the box. Post-siege has been somewhat better, but the modular "izer" bots have picked up the slack, as every one I've picked up has had some loose pegs or ports to the point that they wouldn't even stay together in certain combinations.

If I didn't know how to fix loose joints, I literally would have stopped collecting Transformers over a decade ago.

Yeah, Leadfoot was one the few bots I've been legitimately satisfied with in recent years. Overall the mold is kinda meh, as the legs are a mess and fake parts are almost always a dealbreaker for me, but this deco absolutely makes the most of it.

It's also one of the only times I'd recommend the toyhax sticker set, since the alt mode looks kind of naked without some form of race livery beyond just a number, and the reflective red sticker for the visor is worth it alone.

Fuck, I love this mold so much, and these colors especially. Scorpions are a hella cool alt mode and the robot mode is a lot of fun.

Picked up the toy deco Scorp for cheap, since I wanted at least SOME form of G1/BW Scorp, turns out everything's forgivable if you went in choosing to like the character and toy. The missiles are fun to pretend they're going pewpew, and the bee is definitely a cute little friend to have. Pity the toy deco is so minimal with details, but I markered up some things to make it vaguely passable. Just wish his tail moved around a bit more in either mode, although I actually don't mind how half-assed the bottom of the altmode is. Arachnids do rule, man

>The Kiryu is pretty bad too
I actually really like it after thinking about it for a day. A JXSDF military vehicle turning into a robot is pretty great, even if it's a little basic. My biggest beef is they don't give us an extra blue gun so each arm can have one like Kiryu did. Still, a proper Toho vehicle would have been cooler.

The Godzilla looks like ass, but this one is cool.
>>
>>11217232
yeah that's the other thing, as soon as he's no longer 'scorponok that guy from the show' i instantly forgive his boxy body and tiny boxy legs. i have no problem with sandstorm and toy-deco guy being their own guys. I guess that's.. alternate dimension scorponok, who is way more competent.
but yeah tail articulation was a letdown, and the hollowness is no good. the rest is fine. I actually weirdly like the little spike left by the robot heel in the tail. it sorta fits with the original guy being based more on the toy and having that ridiculous serrated upside-down stinger. which he never used in battle, only to spray acid once. there's an upgrade kit for that stinger if'n you prefer it.

At least they gave you an equal amount. You can dispute that since they did give you the full amount anyway, but I agree that it's scummy.

My main issue with the changes is that transformers qc is dogshit, so returning several figures a year is normal and that's not something you can do on Amazon now. My other alternative is walmart, who charge more and barely stock anything.

Agreed!

Check out this video I made about Signal Flare from 2007, who's alt mode is a Maser Tank. It's not super fancy, but it's a satisfying "crossover" figure if you can stretch your imagination.

https://youtu.be/Qq6kq0pCAcs?si=I2lB7pQtTvjLCsS_

I look forward to getting this Kiryu Optimus, and think he will go great with Signal Flare here. But i do wish we got a proper Toho vehicle. Imagine one of the three Super-X models, or Gotengo. A proper official Maser Tank would have been brilliant. But they couldn't even manage to give us a partial reminder to give Godzilla spines, so no way they were gonna give us a brand new vehicle mode.

I'm still holding out hope they might go nuts for the 75th Anniversary and give us some new molds or even an inspired small line. But that's a dream, and it's five years away.

>>
>>11217255
Yeah the QC is what bugs me man. I will say I am loving current day engineering and designs, but the QC is absolutely killing me and Amazon was my ray of hope because they would let me exchange or at the very least, send it back. Now that hope is kind of evaporating and on Pulse you'd be lucky if they do a replacement. I had to ask if they would give me 86 Prime's blast effects/axe as my box didn't even come with them and they said "sorry no" so I had to go kick rocks. I managed to trade someone the figure they sent me as a complimentary ploy to get me to leave them alone for those accessories, but this just sucks man.

I don't even like John Warden, but what they did to him was shitty, and Hasbro is constantly fucking bitching about lost profits etc. while they waste all this fucking plastic over these QC issues. Everyone BUT the higher ups get punished and everyone else is doing a stellar job imo. But because of poor management of all of their brands, they take it out on the designers and customer support and factory workers and let the blame fall on them because they can't be fucked to pay someone to look over the figures before they were sent out.

I had more figures as a kid than I do now and this NEVER was an issue. Maybe once every few years it would happen, but not 3/5 of my purchases.

Missing accesories has been a recurring issue these past few years. Not having dedicated placing on a clear plastic shell really fucked this up. Better pray they put them all in the baggie, or they didn't give you two of the same accesories when one is for the right, and the other's for the left. Some boxes now have a few strapped with plastic ties, but it doesn't fix the problem.

Most of it should be in the returns section on Amazon. Though, not everyone has the page updated, some accounts still display the old version, basically:

-Refund can take up to 30 days after they recieve it, with the refund given after inspection. Even if they give you the full refund, they can resind it after the fact. The "take away" refund thing was happening randomly in the past few years, but Amazon would normally correct this it you went to chat. Not anymore. Missing parts will also lead to a partial refund (I recently returned something missing parts and got a full refund, but I don't trust this will keep happening).
-Items damaged that are believed to be caused by the buyer will only recieve a partial or zero refund. In the event of zero refund, Amazon won't even send the item back so you lose the money and the item. If it's damaged in transit, you now have to contact the post office (I've seen some sites comment on this, but I haven't checked Amazon to confirm).
-Items frequently returned have a fee attached. They're basically reprimanding buyers for getting a faulty product because they warned you about it first. While return fees were normally a region specific thing (attached to the cheapest service near you), this one feels really scummy.

They justify it by saying they didn't actually inspect the item then or they reviewed the case again at a later date.

Another random things this was before the changes). Any return you make, you must ask for a receipt or anything that proves you sent it back. No, tracking doesn't mean shit for returns, if the item gets lost in transit you are not refunded a dime unless you can prove you sent it back.
>>
>>11217471
i'm glad half of this isn't true
>>
>>11217468
Why would you want that if you recieve an item missing parts?
>>
>>11217475
i mean, most of the time, i wouldn't. but say, oh this transformer is missing his gun, hey there's a listing on mercari for that loose gun by itself, okay just refund me enough to get the gun and i'm a happy customer. or for other stuff I collect, model kits, an incomplete one is always useful so I'd rather take a partial refund and keep the carcass.
>>
>>11217473
You can actually find a few statements online about it. Amazon isn't obligated to refund you if they didn't recieve the item, and some cases don't refund without a receipt (which isn't provided in a number of stores, so good luck).
>>
>>11217478
I've heard talk that since Amazon receipts are just links now, they can and will just edit them on their end.

What's concerning is that is likely not the end of it. I think it's not outside the realm that by Summer of next year the prices are 34.99 for a deluxe, 55.99 for a voyager, and 109.99 for a leader. It's likely why everything is slowing down and why most companies, not just toys ones, are slowing their distribution down to a crawl pace to keep the mes that kind of inflation spike is going to cause more under control.

Depends. Do you mean female counterparts to male characters, or do you mean characters that are different genders depending on the continuity?

- Airazor is male in Japan’s dub of Beast Wars.
- Cyberverse Acid Storm is gender-fluid.
- Earthspark Skywarp and Nova Storm are female
- The original G1 character notes for Ratchet have the ‘bot be female, and I kind of hope to get that some day.

> Airazor is male in Japan’s dub of Beast Wars
Side note, this made the relationship between Airazor and Tigatron difficult to dub, and the setup was basically supposed to be an aromantic samurai bushi/retainer one for Season 1. But then Japan had to dub “Other Voices”, where no amount of dub magic would cover up that on-screen Airazor and Tigatron were romantically involved with each other. So the Japanese dub team basically just said “fuck it” and had the two proclaim their love for one another as the Vok were taking them away, and when they got letters from kids asking about it, told the kids that sometimes boys can love boys. Presumably a nonzero number of fujoshis got their start from that.

Also when I told that to a friend he remarked that it was a way more mature way of handling things than the American dub team for Sailor Moon handled the relationship between Sailors Uranus and Neptune.

Looking at their legacy commander releases, Motormaster(combiner) and then armada Prime, i think maybe these new trilogy will follow the same pattern, combiner next year and jetfire the next one.
People say overload should be the commander but i find that absurd, he needs to be a wide leader due to how simple he is

It’s from here,

Funnily enough sperm whales actually do have a high degree of sexual dimorphism, but it’s almost entirely in their size, with bulls being much bigger than cows. But unless you’ve got a banana for scale or a degree in cetacean studies, you won’t be able to tell at a glance.

>>11218082
Theres no good 3p option either, everything is too big or too small, closest thing was Hercules, but his altmodes looked like playskool toys even back when he was released.
>>
Imagine, a Transformers x Berserk crossover figure?
>>
>>11218123
hmm okay give me your pitch
>>
Is MPG Ginrai going to be short like Raiden? I'm wondering how he'd look next to a chug collection.
>>
>>11218162
Approximately this tall
>>
>>11218162
Raiden was only short because the trains were made to be HO scale
>>
>>11218181
So he's a little too big. God Ginrai's not supposed to be bigger than Victory Saber, right?
>>
>>11218181
they couldn't move the knees down a bit?
>>
>>11218181
Saber looks like a bitch next to Ginrai

They're about the same size, as big as a combiner, MP Saber is closer in scale than the haslab set.

see now those are good thigh proportions

Fuck it I caved. I was going to hold out for a Voyager Re-Release but I wanted them bad.

really enjoyed that movie and those designs eh

I want Megs

This is bad because...construction vehicle toys are so mature and not playskool?
>>
>>11218256
Check Macy's if your in the United States. The got a Toys R US inside as a section now full of them.
>>
>>11218265
Its not about being mature, its about keeping a shared visual style on the collection, but you might be one of those glue enjoyers who puts botbots and rescuebots on the same shelf as generations figures.
>>
>>11218279
You're gonna display a Devastator as construction vehicles on a shelf? LOL

So, I'm pretty excited to have picked this up today for $25

I never watched the cartoon it's from, but I really like how it looks in both modes and the mini bot and effects make this a wonderful deal.
>>
>>11218284
Yes, recreating some cartoon and Devastation scenes, do you even transform your figures?
>>
>>11218036
>Okay, so that sperm whale I posted. Bull or cow?
NTA, but that's definitely a female. While there's no size reference here, males are also known to have larger teeth on the lower jaw that protrude slightly even when the mouth is closed. They also have thinner tail flukes. The whale in your picture has no teeth visible and a rather broad looking tail, so even though we can't compare her size relative to another whale, we can tell from a glance she's female.

After I get my SS86 Prime next week my goal is to recreate this gif with Prime as Goofy and Jazz as Powerline. Having trouble deciding if Max should be Bumblebee or Hotrod.

>>11218288
it is pretty neato, I will admit
>>

People shit on this mold for some reason, but I got this mainly for the minicon and I paid like full price. Not disappointed at all. Dude came with a shitload of blast effects and some guns too.
>>

The lower legs, having to mistransform him to use the knee joints, otherwise they're locked.
>>
>>11218288
He looks really cool with the flames deco, I was thinking in picking up this guy since I got Armada Prime last month

Yeah the minicon is super fun and Hot R.. era Shot, looks great with the flames and red paint.

>having to mistransform him to use the knee joints
I noticed at first his knee wouldn't bend. I don't know if it's "mistransformed", but if you move the back part of his leg to the side you can get a proper knee joint movement going. It's really stuff and it's easy to get the other transformation joint to m9ve instead, but the knee is there. It's the worst part of the figure though, yeah. Also, his back pack won't lock into the tabs on his back and one gun wont lock in properly to its robot mode holster. Not the biggest deals, but annoying.
>>
>>11218373
>I don't know if it's "mistransformed", but if you move the back part of his leg to the side
Yes thats mistransfoming, having to "untransform" part of your figure or getting it into an unofficial configuration. Most of the time its done to get better looks, its a shame when it has to be done to fix a design flaw.

And these don't? Bonecrusher's altmode looks like some cheap knockoff toy you could find at Walmart for $10.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, that looks bad, but this thing was worse.
>>
>>11218498
The 86 one doesn't even have a cabin, it's just a cheap, flimsy looking canopy.
>>
>>11218498
It's worse at being the cartoon version, but in every other way I would say it's either better or kind of a lateral move.
I must reiterate that making legs out of treads is a fool's errand, as foolish as trying to make a good combiner where each part has two modes in addition to the body-part mode. It aint happening. we should give up and move on.
>>
I can honestly overlook some of the 86 Devastator issues, but I can't commit until I see how they handle the extra torso parts.
>>
>>11218511
>It's worse at being the cartoon version
Nah man, its a bad design, the worst in the set, just a cube on treads, the laughable robot mode proportions don't help, the set sold back then because we were desperate for a modern devastator.

>>11218509
Yes, the 86 one sucks, but the old tfc one was worse, the lego like cabin partsforms cause they recycled the model for their scrapper.
>>
I'm getting kinda unironically tempted to get the 86 constructicons but only because their robot modes ironically fit the generations guys more than the SS86 figures, but I really need to see more size comparisons with them vs the UW cons with the siege onwards generations guys
>>
>>11218512
issue there is once you will be able to learn that you've missed at least 2 figures, really sucks they couldn't just show us all of them at once even if its just CADs
>>
What's a cad?
