Why is it that Japanese animation is so much more cavalier about showing young girls in various states of undress? I can accept that it's not all necessarily a perverted thing, but it's still a little jarring to my Western eyes whenever I come across it. And on a related note, why is so much anime highly sexualized even when it's marketed to children? Pic not related, but plenty of other examples, One Piece, DBZ, etc. Even Pokemon on occasion. I've just never understood the attitude towards sexuality in Japanese media. It seems over-the-top but totally normalized, like it's not taboo at all. Are Americans just prudes?
