Zombie movies aren't popular anymore. It's not because everyone all of a sudden discovered that zombies aren't real. Other examples are the raunchy coming of age movies and the romcoms. It was just a trend. It's not that people can't make those movies now, it's just that you'd have to put an interesting spin on it and have good writing and directing to stand out from all the predecessors/to be able to stand out from what is trending. The "one man army" movies were dying out until John Wick came out. Even superhero movies were just a once in a while thing until Iron man 1 turned out to be an era defining movie when it came to the cinematic experience.
