There’s still an issue with having a black protagonist in a movie like “The Backrooms” even though he isn’t a racelift or historical inaccuracy. The fact if the matter is that when encountering black males, our natural inclination is not to assume their internal world is “just like ours” (as White males) nor are blacks a blank slate which can be anything, but instead they carry within them default assumptions which we as a White audience does (and should) presume unless it’s proven otherwise.
