The first Suspiria was so incomprehensibly shit that it makes me reticent to give the remake a try.
>>
>>204040889
They're completely different. The remake is more spiritual, carrying the torch of striking visuals etc... but a lot of the atmosphere of the school is lost completely.
I prefer the original, but if you didn't like it then chances are you'll prefer the remake
>>
Wait is Noroi: The Curse different from Ju On: The Curse? Which is also different from Ju On: The Grudge? I'm now confused.
>>
>>204040934
Ju-On: The Grudge is the third film in the Ju-On series, it was just the one that got popular because the first two were made for TV movies.
Noroi is totally different and nothing to do with them. Japs just love a good curse.
>>
>>204040934
Yes they are three different things. Obviously.

Phantasm is kino and a very unique horror film. The sequel is more typical 80s slayer flick, but it's still pretty fun.
>>
What's a bad horror that did some really neat things?

I'll vote Dracula 2000. Kinda blended in with a lot of horrors of that time of trying to be a bit too slick and forgetting the scares but the Dracula Vault was cool, as was the twist that Dracula was Judas

Just finished The Beach House. Another 6/10. Flickers of something interesting. Films like this leave me frustrated though, as they don't go far enough. I'm sure there's a way to deep dive (no pun intended) into the more abstract concepts at play without requiring a bigger budget. Ultimately it became two people escaping sea spore zombies. Well anyway, still better than Suspiria.

I had an idea for a short documentary like those, but I'm not sure if I should even try making it. I've done some short filmmaking in the past, but nothing even close to a documentary, so it probably wouldn't turn out any good. At the same time, I kinda want to try it just to see what the final product would look like. But if it turns out bad, the while thing would have just been a huge waste of time.
I'm so conflicted.

>>204040658
It's mystery with a touch of comedy.
It's not scary but the mystery has some eerie moments where your mind races at the possibilities.

It's very grounded, not scary in the horror sense, and the tie-in to Samhain/Halloween is tenuous -- it could have probably benefited from more spooky seemingly paranormal happenings, but I loved it regardless because the setting, the storytelling, and the acting are all on point.

You know the scene in the beginning of an American Werewolf in London where they go to the pub? That mood is this entire series almost.
>>
>>204048494
