Spooktober 14/31Watched Longlegs (2024)Not at all what I was expecting from the title. Interesting concept & worked out pretty well, but I didn't entirely like the way the movie was made. At times the pacing felt very odd. Stellar job by Nicholas Cage. I wonder how many of the "hidden" demonic apparitions I missed, since some of the ones I did see seemed pretty easy to miss.7/10

Most movies are filled with primarily unnoteworthy characters.>It’s full of plotholesWhat are you referring to?>terrible storyI'd argue the core of the story is better than the majority of horror movies I've watched.>>204520497Perhaps, I haven't watched too many, maybe a little under a hundred in total or so, but I feel like a lot of the movies people hold in the highest regards are older movies that don't really do much for me.I wouldn't say Longlegs is all that memorable and it's not one of my favorites by a longshot, but I thought it was reasonably enjoyable, hence the score of a 7.You'd likely be equally appalled to hear about the movies I did really enjoy though
>>204520369>If you watched it in the kinoplex and walked out at the end thinking you saw a great movie I think you have horrible, horrible taste and brain dead standardsI wouldn't go that far, but I do agree. The first few scenes made me excited but it was super anti-climactic

>>204519291what a cute
>>204520641>My friends and I were all like "huh?" when it ended. It seemed like it wasn't finishedI'm pretty lenient on this because I feel like it's a trend in horror movies and it happens pretty often. In general I fucking hate it, but since it happens seemingly far more in horror than other genres I decided to stop getting upset about it. I've seen far more abrupt endings anyway. Think a lot of them just struggle to make a good ending so leaving an abrupt or open ending makes people talk about it more

What I do think though is that it is obscene and disgusting enough that it should be banned and it's creator executed for the good of society.I thought the same about human centipede fyi, t*rrifier isn't unique.
>>204526506Dumbass, the OP is Asia Argento and i first mentioned Stendhal Syndrome, so i'm obviously talking about the Argento one starring Asia.
>>204526498Here's an actual scary one: https://youtu.be/r5hvHEBLNpI?si=eGM5c1olXBrSrqQC
>>204526641So the old video nasty argument from the 80's but taken to the extreme
>>204526641I mean you sound like quite a gatekeeper elitist, when Human Centipede didn't make anything as good as the box office of The Substance, and the Terrifier 3 movie will not either draw whatever amount of outrage you seem to be getting from out of them, compared to The Human Centipede, who nobody cares about anymore lol.
>>204526734Boomers are nastily active here nowadays.
>>204526863Why are you not answering the question? Do you think there should be rules about what can be shown on film or not?A movie's success shouldn't influence anything. It's either obscene and bad for society or it is not.I don't care about The Substance, that isn't anywhere near as bad as t*rrifier, which has probably the most needless, wanton and realistically depicted gore and violence I've ever seen in a movie.Human Centipede was banned in a few countries, I'm just saying t*rrifier should be too, but it isn't and it's being allowed to grow and fester, which shows why it should be banned and it's creator killed, unironically.
>>204525708>>204526087mah niggas
>>204526498>GoblinBased as fuck.
>>204527068Because your rules are shit and meaningless and mean nothing for the media at large and the industry and large, and even less for me, enjoy jour irrelevance while you maybe ponder about the success of The Substance, Terrifier 3, The Wild Robot and others in the future.
Terrifier 3 was great

>I saw The TV Glow Is this good? Are there transgender characters?
>Prior to the film's official theatrical release, Gallagher and his family began receiving threats from people alleging to be from 4chan and Anonymous.>Personal information for Gallagher, his family, and anyone that had worked on Smiley was posted online with the recommendation that people use it to harass them. >In an interview with Fearnet, Gallagher stated that the site had posted the information as part of "Operation Fuck Smiley" and that "Their goal was to spoil the end of the movie, post pornography and gore on any website that talks about it, rate the movie really low... it was this horrible vendetta, like they wanted to destroy it because we talked about 4chan in the movie.">The validity of these claims were questioned by Cole Strycker, author of Epic Win for Anonymous, who expressed suspicion that Gallagher was trying to use the death threats as a publicity stunt to promote the film. In response, Gallagher asserted that the death threats were real and were not being used as a publicity stunt.
Just remembered this kino. Might rewatch it later. I remember enjoying it quite a bit.
>>204527068breh you're giving Terrifier way too much credit. It's just generic edgemaster shit.
Does pic related count as kino in this thread? It’s not scary, or horror really, but it has mystical and voodoo elements id argue make it fitting for the season. Plus it’s fucking based.
This general is always dead or active at the strangest timesYou guys are ghoulsWhat are some kinos with ghouls?

>>204527237How exactly am I giving it credit by saying it's foul and shouldn't be allowed?I'm not the one giving it credit, it's apparent legion of defenders who act like it's anything other than tasteless slop are the ones doing that. I want this horrid franchise and it's psycho creator to fuck off into obscurity like it should have done when the first one came out but somehow they keep getting sequels.I'm just tired of having to keep seeing and hearing about these movies. Haven't you ever experienced that?
>>204527204seen that one and definitely seems like a comfy october rewatch
How’s pic related? Was thinking of jumping into it tomorrow
>>204527491People like edgy stuffIt's not going to change
>>204527525mixed reception. slow but also has some flashes of over the top violence. worth a watch.
>>204527389Looks like a hell of a list so far. I've seen 10/13 of those. Some of them, I wish I hadn't seen before so I could watch them for the first time this year.Every year gets a little harder to find major kino as you gradually get all the major classics out of the way.
>>204527583I feel like this is at least one or two levels above edgy. This is outright sadism.
>>204527609People are sadists
>>204527491I'm saying Terrifier is just edgelord goreshit which lots of other films have done in the past at more extreme levels. It isn't new or unique and you're taking it too seriously. IMO the series is pretty shite but the slasher subgenre usually is. People are just memeing it right now because it just released and they'll move on once other horror movies take the spotlight.
>>204523355One of the best comedies ever made
>>204527588Thanks anon. Love this time of year. Any recs for kino before the 70s? Someone recommended the original Cat People.
I think the terrifier is cool
Lmaohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8prEuqTB6Oo
Who would win in a fight between Prometheus and the Terrifier?
>>204527389not a bad list at all, good mix of comedy, campy and serious. LTROI is one of those films which I wish I could experience again for the first time, it's quite haunting and nostalgic and changed my life in some ways (got me more into horror as a teen to chase "that feeling" again)
Has anyone ever been killed or maimed on the set of a horror film?>inb4 twilight zone movie
>>204527625And they should not be allowed to be.>>204527638Name a movie that has more and more realistic gore than this.>they'll move onI don't think they will though. It clearly has a very dedicated fanbase that is crowdfunding it and trying to shill it into being a modern classic. They want it to be the next Halloween or Friday the 13th.

alright I'm up to puppet master 9 tonight, Axis of Evil.
>>204527525Good but slow moving and it has a more distant/calculated approach to the genre
>>204525272it's a japanese 2001 horror movie called Suicide Club.this movie is way too bizarre to be genuinely scary.
>Day 14: Perdita Durango Shudder had this, so I figured it was horror. It isn't. Maybe horror-adjacent? Two Mexican psychopaths (One of them a black magic warlock) are pursued across America by a DEA agent played by Tony Soprano. Good movie. But it's not horror, it's a thriller. Why's it on shudder? I guess it's actually scarier than most horror, because Mexicans are real. Eh.

I'm starting to think I'm going to hate every Dario Argento movie. Just finished watching Opera and it was the most half assed idea I've seen. They gave away the killer from the very beginning in their whodunit plot. They really hyped up the upcoming crow scenes ended up flopping anyways.Seems like Dario can't pace his movies to save his fucking life (what was the point of that fake ending only to have it essentially end the same way minutes later?). And don't even get me started on the insanely shitty rock music they kept playing in this movie called "Opera". Or his obvious self insert as the opera director.I'm actually seething.
>>204527708Cat People is great.Outside of the classic Universal Monsters, these are some '30s horrors I liked:>Doctor X (1932)>Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)>Island of Lost Souls (1932)>The Black Cat (1934)>The Raven (1935)>Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932)>White Zombie (1932)>Freaks (1932)All hold up very well
>>204527964actually I watched Dollman/Bad Channels/Demonic Toys so I could understand the universe of Demonic Toys vs. Puppet Master, and actually that was helpful as a break. alas I'm onto the digital era now.

>>204528051Still the first one, the cast, characters and music works really well. honestly Dollman was probably next most fun and I only watch that as it's part of the same universe.
