I disagree.
You know what movie I thought was shit? Longlegs. It felt like it ended 30 minutes too early. The Substance washed that bad taste out of my mouth by going through with the full potential of it's concept.

It wasn't great but quite good. Excellent visuals in both extremes of beauty and body horror, creatures looked just a bit plasticky and the movie's predictable but still enjoyable and avoid excesses of woke lecturing (which are there but are offset by the director's good eye for women's sensuality). I give it a 7/10

For me it was way too long and didn't have enough to say to justify that runtime, and it unnecessarily takes 30mins to get going. That movie could easily have been a single 1hr episode of Black Mirror or another anthology series and it would have said everything it needed to say, been just as successful, and saved me 80mins of my life.

I felt the same, fun ideas but obnoxiously long. It also used that time to jump between tones instead of picking a lane and heading towards an ending.

Underused tropes or elements in horror that you want to see more.

I'll start:
1. Ballets are dramatic, I want more of them. There's Black Swan (loosely horror), and Abigail.
2. Nature being a malevolent force on its own, like The Ruins.
3. HALLOWEEN?! It's so hard to find movies like Trick 'r Treat that go all out with Halloween. Even Halloween (1978) could take place on any other day and it wouldn't change the movie that much.
4. Holiday horror in general. Plenty exist, I just want more.
5. Time travel. The potential horror of time travel is right there.
6. Desert settings. Tremors and who?
7. Villains trust the wrong people. Last House on the Left.
8. Voodoo dolls. Fucking terrifying. Child's Play does it but it's barely a focus.
9. Fire? Are there horror movies with arsonists or something? I only think of action movies.
10. Normal shark movies. Not supergenius hypno mega immortal shark. Sharks are scary enough.
11. Art coming alive.
12. Discovery of superpowers, like Carrie and Teeth.
13. Heights are scary and should be utilized like Fall.
14. Nothing was wrong, but the damage has been done because people got scared.
15. Scarecrows that are actually tortured souls/people from the past. I want this.
16. Someone hiding a monster because it's their family member.
17. Anthologies that are cleverly connected, not just a bunch of short stories.
18. Evil doctors. Not buahaha evil scientist, but like in a hospital you trusted.
19. A regular person getting clues (could be supernatural like visions) of someone begging for help.
20. Challenges. You have to do dangerous things or kill someone. 13 Sins, Would You Rather, Circle.
21. Campy witch horror with potions.

Suspiria

>A regular person getting clues

>>
>>205714416

I like this one as well. A serial killer who loves throwing people off buildings. Vertigo style. Get to watch a whole bunch of people go splat.
>>
>>205714539
Blood from the Mummy's Tomb/The Awakening effectively has an evil wind as the killer.
>>
>>205714416
>evil doctors
The Skin I Live In
Eyes Without A Face
>Desert
The Mummy (1932)
Bone Tomahawk
>Nature being a malevolent force
Picnic At Hanging Rock isn't a horror movie but it kind of deals with this concept
>>
>>205714668
Both times I found them really piss poor lol. Same with killer cats... I was thinking more like Crawl where people get drowned or yeah Final Destination etc, but I get that's expensive to film. A lot of ideas you can write off ever seeing just because of the cost of filming.
>>
>>205714416
here's mine
1. Evil Skeletons, the movie (lots of bone gags, exploding like crash test dummies, throwing their own skulls etc)
2. Quest For Fire style early human horror
3. Dinosaur horror (basically Dino Crisis)
4. Melt films (Street Trash reboot will hopefully satisfy this)
5. make another HR Giger inspired film that isn't Alien
6. Broadcast Signal Intrusion but different, maybe ham radio or something
>>
>>205714416
>3. HALLOWEEN?! It's so hard to find movies like Trick 'r Treat that go all out with Halloween. Even Halloween (1978) could take place on any other day and it wouldn't change the movie that much.
I was surprised to find that Trick or Treat (1986) was only as much a Halloween movie as The Karate Kid is.
>6. Desert settings. Tremors and who?
The Hills Have Eyes
>15. Scarecrows that are actually tortured souls
Night of the Scarecrow

I liked the plot points we ended up with, I just didn't like how they handled the exposition of them. I thought giving the MC/Friend a redemption arc through a "ride or die" moment was cool but it just felt bloated. We were already 10 - 20 minutes into the point where I was feeling "OK, but how does this get resolved?" and this just stretched that out another 7 - 10 minutes. Maybe if they had cut other stuff before hand and a little bit of that arc then it would have worked better. But, yeah, overall a great story. I really liked the fact that all of that was actually in her head. Ending the film so that she actually had no chance to redeem herself and instead curses thousands (if not millions upon millions) of people was a spectacular horror movie ending.

Old people porn horror must have resonated with them. For me, I think it would have been more effective if they actually used actually ancient actors, instead of those lame prosthetics.
