What are other movies like this?
Anon that watched Phenomena last night reporting in. I fell asleep after Jennifer's roommate got killed, probably more because I had just worked 12 hours than that it was boring. Anyway, I woke up early and finished watching it before I went back to work (luckily it was still dark). It was a fun movie. The monkey took me off guard. If Jennifer Connelly had not been so insanely good looking in this movie the monkey would have easily carried it. I laughed out loud almost every time the monkey was on screen (not sure if that was intended), especially at the end and when it meets Jennifer in the forest. The location shots were all amazing and definitely added to the movie. Makes me wonder why more aren't shot in cool locations. The visuals in general were effective, especially the dream sequences and the whole end after Jennifer winds up at that house. The scenes in the water and the basement were great. Jennifer Connelly makes the movie worth watching for her camera time alone. The maggots and the kid and that fucking pool were pretty disgusting. The sound was sort of meh imo. I know the voiceovers are par for the course for Italian movies of the period, but even still it was jarring at times. Not sure why Jennifer speaks in Italian sometimes, and the hard rock didn't really work for me at all in the context of the movie. Not sure if there's any greater thematic stuff going on, but I don't understand why the whole insect angle was included at all. It doesn't really come up except in situations that could easily be dealt with in more conventional, grounded ways. I must be missing something.Starting Suspiria now. Gonna try and stay awake this time, and I'll try and get back to you guys afterwards.

>>205976710I need to watch amelie (curiosity and to start flirting a girl that Ijust know that likes it)sorry anons but im not actually gay
>>205982950Gross coalburner gtfo
I love this movie so much
>>205984085Based Q making jeets seethe
>>205960079Even though there's barely any rain in the movie
>>205982077Agreed>>205982260It just turns into generic actionslop when there's about 40 minutes left of the film.It also lacks the atmosphere of Kurosawa's other attempts at horror. At no point did the movie make me feel unsettled or uneasy.
>>205960079ten skies by james benning
>>205984626I don't think a movie being generic is a bad thing, so I will enjoy this
>>205984806It's the cinematography that is generic, which absolutely is a bad thing. I don't really care about the plot being nonsense, it's the fact that it looks dull that ruins it.It's not impossible to enjoy the movie though, it has some good parts to it.
>>205984930KKurosawa has never been much of a stylist imo. His films all look like generic digital modern thrillers but at least he doesn't use the blue filter.
>>205984991His older films have a pretty clear identity in my opinion. His new film could, however, have been directed by anymore. As someone pointed out in another thread, I'd suggest watching his short from last year instead if you haven't.
>>205972611Dumbfuck didn't even get that Phenomena is a remake of The Curse Of The Cat People, but thinks his opinion matters
Bros, I need more /unhommequidort/coreI can't find anything like it, I even fell on the Wake in Fright poster trap when I asked it last time.Bonus for asian 2000s film (digital euphoria time) and hispanic ones.
>>205985327No No Sleep
>>205985327>/unhommequidort/corewhat is that
>>205985327Did you see Absences Repetees? It's by far the closest thing to it I know of. Au Pan Coupe also to a lesser extent.
>>205985432>Absences RepeteesFuck no I didn't but I remember the recc. I don't remember if I gave you the thanks, but thanks anon. I was about to watch it but check'd the filmography of the director and he had some other stuff that looked interesting so I decided give his filmography a go before reaching Absences.>>205985389Lonely
>>205985474Yeah do that. Gilles is the most underrated french director I know of, everything from him is worth watching.
Imagine unironically watching Fr*nch filmsCouldn't be me

Which /film/ podcasts do you recommend,
>>205986947Quentin Tarantino's
>>205986947Projectionboothpodcast is ok
>>205986961What does he talk about?
>>205986947La Gêne Occasionnée by François Bégaudeau
>>205986947Cum town.
>>205987072Old b movies and shit that inspired him, obviously
>>205986947Honestly haven’t come across one that discusses decent quality arthouse films. Lots of podcasts on slop, horror, cult, pop, bullshit films though.
>>205986947none. spend your time watching films and not listening to slop
>>205977000Kino
>>205986947Make a /film/ podcast- discuss FOTW along with the films mentioned here, talk about any current drama, highlight the funniest posts, etc. I’d listen.
>>205987023I like this one too but sometimes the guests are terrible. They have a wide variety of films though, which is really good.
>>205956073>Fascinationkino
>>205987396>>205987023I feel like Mike White was/is a Covid collaborator. Am I wrong to feel this way?
>>205987023>>205987396>Most recent films discussed- The Birthday, Sasquatch Sunset, The 5000 Fingers of Dr TWhat a great fucking podcast
>>205987399Picked up
>>205977250>I wish I was born in the 40s!This but unironically.
>>205987399Such an overrated flick. I was excited from the opening credits, but quickly became disappointed and disillusioned with the whole thing.
>>205977882I saw col blimp for the first time the other day and was blown away by it. I haven’t felt this way about a movie in a long time.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hcZ6fnRLDLU&pp=ygUZQ29sIGJsaW1wIHdhbGJyb29rIHNwZWVjaA%3D%3DGreat performance from Walbrook.

>>205988629No, because I am neither a gay man or an insufferable woman.
>>205988733You are a coalburner spamming simp cuck.
>>205988765Um, you're Indian.
What is the Film Comment podcast like?
>>205987551They discussed fuckton of CNW films etc. Their catalogue is extremely varied.>>205987535I don't give a shit about covid.
>>205988865Ok but the new female host is insufferable. The Last Thing I Saw with Rapold is better.
>>205988629I had the displeasure of seeing the trailer for this when I saw Conclave the other day. Holy shit it looks even worse than I expected, who’s gonna pay money to watch a gross ugly nigger witch and Ariana Grande? I like my witches white, 5’4” and 90lbs.
>>205988908>I don't give a shit about covid.I remember I stopped listening to all film-related podcasts and unfollowed everything film-related on twitter when it became apparent the hosts and accounts were either all-in on the nonsense or weren't going to do anything to oppose it.
>podcastsdon't see the appeal, i'd rather watch a bad movie
>>205989018I like mine Armenian.
>>205989171this. I don't understand zoomers need for constant noise. they seem unable to just sit alone with their thoughts

Gonna make a new thread.
>>205989365lol
what film should I watch today?
>>205989390I’m just gonna stop announcing it since no one else ever does lol. Prepare the split threads
>>205989445Just check newly created threads a second before you create a new one, dumbo
>>205989480I did that you stupid nigger. Maybe try announcing it for once instead of racing to make the new one at bump limit.
>>205986838watch it
>>205989445Stop worrying about making new threads if you take it this hard. Not good for you.
>>205989521>I did thatThen quit bitching, dumbo>Maybe try announcing it for onceI do whenever I feel like it;)
>>205987381That would be nice, someone could make it into a monthly thing and then highlight the best posts, discuss the FOTWs and /film/ related news and so on and so on...
>page 6I'm staying, this thread will live for another hour.Ah, what a comfy thread, all for myself.
>>205990236Why has /tv/ been so slow lately? Not so long ago, the threads wouldn't last much more than half an hour after bump limit.
>>205990502900 seconds wait slowed it down significantly, for better or worse
>>205990545I never had to wait, why is that?
