thats because perfect dark is the pinnacle of fps and parallels the current tineline flawlessly
The PD source port is one of the best N64 source ports so farIt's way better than Ship of Harkinianhttps://github.com/fgsfdsfgs/perfect_dark
>>729137819Perfect Dark is one of the few fps games that has a co-op and counter-op mode
>>729136992I remember in 2000, after playing Perfect Dark, thinking, “Damn, this was the best FPS I’ve ever played in my life. I can only imagine what FPS games will be like in 10 or 20 years!” Little did I know that to this day Perfect Dark would still be the best FPS of all time. Shooter games went in a completely different direction, and nowadays FPS is synonymous with online multiplayer and hero shooters. How far we’ve fallen.

>>729138261Watching an 8 hour youtube video saved me 70+$ on Deadly Premonition 2, I regret and missed nothing (aside from the 8 hours I wasted on a shit sequel)You will never convince me my opinion isn't invalid. I had a feeling the game would be shit when the characters started quoting Friedrich Nietzsche within the first 30 seconds, and I was right. Every aspect of that game is a piece of shit compared to the original (which I did play, multiple times in fact)I will NEVER play deadly premonition 2, but I might re-watch it if I'm drunk/high enough, only after replaying the first, and only because "the story" (which even in the original, wasn't amazing, but at least forgivably charming)

hi anons about to play ds2 for first time but ive heard conflicting stuff, which version is better?
>>729137791Play vanilla first>whyVanilla was designed as a whole: the levels, the enemy placements, and the item placements. SotFS changes things for the sake of changing things, and these changes range from mildly interesting (for example, Pursuer spawning at two points in Lost Bastille, the dull ember being placed earlier in the game), to annoying (Black Gulch's second bonfire being arbitrarily blocked by a petrified hollow for no other reason than to force you to burn the branch of yore at the beginning of the level), to frustrating (many of the enemy and item placement changes to list, which are the meat and potatoes of progression). Vanilla IS Dark Souls 2, whereas SotFS is like DS2's equivalent to OoT Master Quest. It's a remix, not an objective improvement.>but AldiaWas added to vanilla.>but the graphicsAre worse in SotFS. There are some minor improvements to textures, but they're outweighed by two terrible changes:1. There's an ugly post-process LUT applied to the game, giving it a sickly green tint.2. The brightness and contrast were raised with no regard for how it affects highlights, leading to loss of detail in many areas. See timestamp: https://youtu.be/_2XwOoo40iY?t=125You're free to play SotFS, but vanilla contextualizes its changes. SotFS being an improvement over vanilla is one of the most commonly regurgitated falsehoods in the entire Dark Souls community. I have no idea why it's repeated to this day, it has no basis in fact.

>>729130067A game at the very least needs to be a 7/10 in regards to gameplay regardless, but as long as the gameplay is passable the rest of it can push the game into greatness if done well enough. However in very few cases and only in certain genres like CRPGs a 5/10 gameplay experience can be carried by the rest of the game being legitimately fantastic. Also a game with 10/10 gameplay sill needs a 6/10 across the rest of tis aspects or only the terminally autistic who replay the same 3-5 games over and over again regardless will give a shit.

>Deus Ex>VTMB>Planetscape: TournamentYeah, I'll choose right every time.
>>729137110Fair enough. Though I would say that the challenge there isn't the zombies in of themselves. Rather the challenge is more survivor babysitting and time management.
>>729137250Without them though, it would literally just be tard wrangling, the game. Set in a mall, only missing bright colored, matching vests and helmets. It's not JUST knowing lay-out, and the bathroom short-cuts, or even just weapon placement. The zombies are the problem you have to constantly navigate around, I'd argue the biggest power spike on a fresh save is the kick. Aside from punching, it's the best way to instantly knock down a zombie, but you have to be in the air for it.You don't need to 'babysit' for anyone aside from the odd scripted moments where you have to come back to calm a retard down. Getting your retard (and 2+ others) around zombies, is more than just hugging a wall and optimizing.Yeah, you can learn to enter areas and feel for a Survivor's 'sweet spot' so they can load in without being up your ass to save time. But at the end of the day, you're still having to clear the way, the zombie killing is at least half of your optimization.
>>729137435Fair point. I guess I was undervaluing the challenge zombies bring when it comes to the games.
>>729137608I mean, if the game was just convicts, military guys and the cultists, I guess the 'mobbage' would be more in your face. But there is a lv.1 factor, where you should pickup some furniture, learn where weapons are, and learn what foods to combine. The game has saving, and the only real pain in the ass is getting every Otis call, or the 48 hour mode. Even if the game was intended for a sitting with knowledge attained previously, the game benefits from free roaming inbetween major beats and finding survivors.Plus, aside from just spamming pictures, gimmick/mass kills are an EXP farm. I don't know the speedrunning side of Dead Rising, but I'd imagine a lot of people would want to use the lawnmowers, or boss weapons just to get some points in. (I do recognize the easter eggs and gimmick shots that give mass points too, but that is another integral mechanic to the game).
