It saddens me that there are so many classics we can't talk about anymore because you never know if the person you're talking to actually played the game or some casualized cashgrab version designed for younger retards and made god knows how many years after the fact. They say that "remakes don't replace the originals" but remakes and shitty ports certainly change a game's perception and poison the discussion. So from now there needs to be a new rule, if you played some later ports (picrel is only a sample of those examples), you should put an * at the start of your post and say so, that way everyone will know your opinion can be discarded. I mean, pretending that you know all about Final Fantasy 1 and 2 because you only played Dawn of Souls is like claiming you read the Dracula novel because you watched the Coppola movie, and even that comparison isn't fair because that movie is actually good. The worse thing is when these people, confronted by these facts, start to cope like "who cares these games were never hard" (yeah you'd certainly think so if you only played the casualized garbage version) or start to insult the people who played the originals. Because it's not enough to have a taste for shit, everyone else must eat it too and good taste must be erased in the process.
The FF Anthology on PS is dogshit or so I've heard. It's just buggy (original run that is) and the translation for FFV is hilariously bad. How the fuck did Square say OK to translating Tonberry to dingleberry?
>>12475573nah
>>12478164>The FF Anthology on PS is dogshit or so I've heardThe sound effects are off, you will notice immediately, it takes a while to get used to. Aside from that it's fine.I can't remember anything wrong with FF5 besides the poorly translated enemies, and sometimes battles felt laggy, almost like it would freeze for a second when trying to move the cursor or make an input. Could've just been the disc, I dunno, never seen anyone else mention it.
>>12478164I had been super excited to finally play FFV and then it was so buggy and clunky it felt like pulling teeth. Walk a couple steps, the whole game freezes for several seconds then a battle loads, every button press feels like it has delay, animations chug at what seems like 5fps. Finally win, black screen for several seconds while it loads the over world again. Walk a couple steps, the process repeats. It was so fucking bad.
>>12475054good point, considering how grueling the enemies are
Why do every single Jaguar game besides Rayman look like some cheap mishmash abomination of badly rendered 3D assets, crudely drawn MS Paint graphics, Word art, shitty photo collages and garish colors? Why does everything on Jaguar look so amateur? It's hideous! It's like some kind of video game hell where everything graphically wrong lies. Nothing looks good. Nothing looks professional or made by artists. The Jaguar could easily make better looking games than the SNES, but it seems that they couldn't hire real developers, just a bunch of washed out Amiga developers that couldn't migrate to real consoles and were stuck with the Jaguar.Hideous games thread. And Jaguar general, I guess.

>>12466259got addicted to the internet using computers at school and family PCs from 97-2003 so it was a HUGE deal when I finally got my first computer of my own that would go in my room, some laptop, in 2004 when I was 13. Honestly life changing because then my internet addiction went off the rails having my own private access anytime I wanted. Funny thing is we didnt have wifi when I first got that computer, but by sheer divine luck there was one spot in my room near the window where I could reach a neighbor's wifi which was totally unsecured and I used that connection for years (the connection sucked too, I remember torrenting shit at 10 kb/s for days at a time). The things I remember most from those early days were newgrounds and other flash sites, classic 4chan /b/ era, ytmnd, IRC chat, playing diablo 1 for the first time with my IRC buddies, posting on actual forums with avatars and signatures, posting a ton on gamefaqs forums for specific vidya you were into, and having a blast torrenting whatever media I wanted. One thing that's stuck with me are laptops, Ive never owned a desktop because Ive just always had laptops and they are much comfier for me.

You play this for literally 10 seconds and you can already tell it's irredeemable garbage. Everything about it just feels like utter shit.Westerners (aside from Rare) were just so fucking bad at making any form of action game, platformer, or shooter.
>>12481057A confused retarded weeb, what a shock
>>12475807Last Ninja 2 is a crap game, though. I'm ITT defending western devs but that's really not a good one no matter how many copies it managed to sell to choice-starved gamers.
>>12481057just from a technical POV the fact that they managed to stream tiles into the CHR RAM in real time during gameplay was amazing, god knows how they pulled that off
>>12470593>"if it's a Japanese game it's very likely it will be good"Meanwhile pic related exists. TG16 had a lot of really bad shit that they didnt have the sense to void localizing. JJ and jeff scored a 1 out of 10, and even its flagship action game "keith courage in alpha zone" played like an Amiga eurojank action game. Very slow and imprecise. Somehow the "japanese magic" was missing from all their games. Luckily most of the japanese shit was not localized to famicom, but we still got games like milons secret caslte, clash at demonhead, and the loathsome 8eyes. Genesis had Altered beast, and the less said about that games infamously terrible gameplay the better.
>>12481401Altered Beast was pretty much just a graphical showcase. I don't think any console game looked as good when it released on Mega Drive

He's basically the original gimmick/freak archetype character of fighting games so it's easy to forget how legit he is both canonically and gameplay-wise in at least some of the games.
In the retro game era games were often bad. They had limitations caused by controls, graphics, processor speed, etc. Games weren't built on standard engines and all worked differently. These differences and quirks gave the games personality and the gameplay was fun because each game had its own unique way of interacting with it. These are still the funnest games to play. Here are three examples for you kids trying to catch the spirit of the old times:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=We8T3wOvsF8Pit-Fighter on the Game Boy: This is not a good game. It is slow and hard to see and control. Or is it? The fun of this game is in the limitations.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Y7WLHsycv8Road Runner's Death Valley Rally on SNES: The controls on this game are tough but the characters and scenes are really fun. It's enjoyable to be "in" this game. Who cares if the hitbox is bad?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpeIn9ebuzgTecmo Super Bowl on the SNES: This is one of the greatest video games ever made and people still update the rosters every year. There is no realism or simulation here but it captures all of the fun parts of football that matter. You have just enough control and even when you master the game it is still fun to play while romping on the opponent.
>>12479571I agree. Many games that I love I would never have even played if I dismissed them because they were said to be 'bad'. Heroes of the Lance for example. Sure it's unconventional (aka bad) but its a wonderful game if you'll take time time to understand it.

With the news that we are getting yet another classic being remade, what are your opinions on this? How do you feel they will “remake” it? Will it be a 1:1 w just graphics, will it be a slight overhaul w new content and mechanics or a complete from the ground up total remake changing everything and maybe trying to erase the OG? The only positive I could possibly see is if this does well and they do MM that we finally get a trilogy capper that they should’ve done when releasing these games on the DS, because it was pretty clear that MM was a fun side quest and a direct continuation of OOT getting sidetracked from finishing the mission he was on his way to complete before getting sucked into the skull kids temper tantrum.
they are just going to turn oot into botw, zelda been ruined ever since that game released.
>>12481152It's been ruined since Aonuma got in charge of the series.
>>12481130>>12481149and they're right
>>12481348>Directed the best Zelda game>Said Zelda game is an old shame of his
>>12481140He’s probably one of those insane Twitter posters who basically want this Sebby guy dead for daring to compare and contrast the two games. Wouldn’t be surprised at all and it only makes Sebby wealthy because he was a nobody and now w all the overreacting and insane hate to him literally telling people he’s stirring the pot while also literally comparing and contrasting scenes side by side.Either way u had better examples but does this other guy not read reviews? Or previews? Does he hear the name of a game and then ignore all news on it and buy on release because his argument is insane. In a way Sebby is just reviewing the game in a different format but it’s still basically a review and he makes me laugh w his impressions and shit. I mean it’s comedy gold, especially the batshit insane comments from Twitter he gets. Makes me laugh harder then any modern comedy movie… maybe that’s why we don’t get awesome comedy movies anymore… but yes I agree w u 100 percent, the guys argument is retarded. However, I did order a copy of ff7 remake to try it myself because it was 10 dollars brand new so why not. I doubt I’ll finish it but wth I’ll give it a run, but most likely I’ll just drop it as soon as I can’t handle the retarded uwuing anymore and replay the original so if anything, it looks like this “remake” will just have me playing the OG again very soon, which is never a bad thing since ff7 and OoT are some of my favorite retro games. I don’t care that what other people think both games are in my top ten and I played them on release and have continued to beat them or play through them every 5 years like a good novel u reread every so often.
What am I in for?
>>12478850it runs fine. beat it a few months back. not a single crash or even frame drop. special edition works out the box at whatever resolution you use. only thing you have to do is uncap the framerate to 60 in the .ini

>>12478620Boring, shallow, generic, talking simulator western RPG
>>12478628But only on pc. The console was fine, first instance of dlc I recall being pushed right along side the release, but I guess my buddy sold me on the pc version so I was kinda bummed with the 360 version .
>>12478620Pretty boring in the beginning but charming enough to finish it. Story seems to be kinda Star Wars-y with it's own (not) Darth Vader. RPG-system is fucked tho because you can turn your character into stun machine almost in the beginning of the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXKIddF6xZ0>Spearheaded by retro programmer Kan Naito and notorious JP retro Youtuber 4ST>Kan Naito is better known for his work at Chunsoft as a programmer on DQ3 & 4 before leaving and funding his own company, Climax Entertainment, who worked on Shining Force and Stalker series among others>The game is a spin-off of "Lady Stalker" which in itself was a spin-off of Landstalker>The original character designer for Lady Stalker, Yoshitaka Tamaki, passed away back in 2023, but the game will include a new never seen before character designed by him>The main gimmick of the game is the cartridge board itself, which had a previous successful crowdfunding campaign for its development>The two LEDs on the sides of the cartridge will react to the game in different ways, such as lighting up different colors in battle depending on the actions of the player, working as an item detector while exploring the field, used as a compass during dungeons, change color during some conversations depending on the mood, etc >Scale wise, Naito said he wants to make something at least on the level of DQ2, but may expand the game more or make a more ambitious sequel depending on reception>Since the cartridge board funding met its stretch goals, more features will be added like : WiFi & BT, large size ROM and RAM, chips for enhanced graphics and sound, and more>Apparently they're also working on a modern Famiclone console, so "more people can enjoy the game"Thoughts?

>>12459973looking at wikipedia>Many of the employees of Climax Entertainment had formerly worked for Enix. An initial pitch for the game was to create a spinoff of the 1990 Famicom game Dragon Quest IV that featured Princess Alena and her two companions. After this proposal was rejected, the game was made into its own intellectual property instead, and became Lady Stalker. That explains why the main trio looked familiar

Was Animaniacs really still popular enough with kids in 2005 that they made a shovelware tie-in game to sucker kids into buying the game? It ended in 1998, technically 1999 with that movie, but it got this game.
