How far have you gone to satisfy it?
I use PSX/PS2 pads for almost everything but I did buy a 50$ adapter from raphnet to use an NES pad on PC which I use for everything that doesn't require more buttons
use 8bitdo SN30 (replica SNES controller) for NES/SNESuse 8bitdo M30 (replica saturn controller) for genesisuse xbox controller for PS1/6th gen+would like to get at DS4 at some point for PS1/PS2. and then also something like a brawler for N64 games.
>>12249727I guess it was devs just getting used to it and not realizing what people outside of the developers would think. I'm not sure how long square button Famis were on the market, but it seems like Nintendo switched to the plastic circle buttons pretty quickly.
I have different controllers for different games/ consoles/ emulators.I don't need an SNES controller but I do need one that says Super Famicom. You bet your ass I picked one up when I was in Japan.
>>12252414The cable on SFC controllers is too short, but the convex buttons are so much nicer
Well, my xbox is dingI had it since I was a teenager as a gift from my grandma. Now the video output port shows severe ghosting and no longer can output anything beyond 480i.I took it to a local repair guy but he said the port has some plastic in it so he can't resolder it as it will melt. For me, it was truly a leap, when I saw Doom 3 and Thief DS with dust particles visible in light, I was amazed. Haven't felt the same kind of technological leap since.Post your memories relating to xbox
>>12250429>disc driveThe disc drive on one of my XBOXs failed, but after replacing the capacitors and reflowing solder joints, it works fine. And no, I don't know if the capacitors truly needed to be replaced (I don't have a multimeter that can measure capacitance) or if just reflowing solder joints fixed the issue.
>>12249381Lucky, I didn't got to experience xbox's multiplayer at its release, only with insignia I could finally play and had some fun in conker and counter strike. I did enjoy the games that forced you to go out and make some friends so you could bring them in and help you 100% the game like shaolin monks since a lot was locked behind co-op.
>>12250413That still sounds like bullshit that it's not replaceable. Are you sure it's not just the cable?
>>12248916Well, whether you fix it or not, you got more use out of it than like 99% of every other Xbox owner. So you're grandma would be happy her gift gave you so much enjoyment. Maybe move onto a 360 and play it for next 15 years lol
>>12249687>Does it only have composite out? I don't remember.>being too lazy to google something this basic>even fucking entertaining the idea that the objectively most powerful /vr/ console of all time well-known for its graphics only had composhityou might as well have wrote "didn't PS1 not support FMV playback?" browsing this board makes me fucking suicidal
Since you are done with Gradius and Parodius, now play Salamander.
Forget dipcord, IRC, or whatever.Hop on Fightcade and play Twinkle Star Sprites instead.
>>12250692I often go to fightcade to play coop, but I refuse to play VS stuff. Everytime I try to jump into it I end up getting stomped by 10k hours playtime players and called shitter. I know that, cus I created a few alt accounts to play 3rd strike, Magical Drop 3 and TSS and it's so funny how many players sit there just fishing for newbies.
>>12251072Not much you can do about it, the players with most hours will also be the most likely to be online at any given moment. Hopefully you get lucky enough and eventually find another anon who just started end up playing with you.
Have been thinking if there's any of these games that aren't just guaranteed with enough time spent practicing. Biggest challenge for most becomes managing psychology to keep on playing regularly and being alright with failed attempts.
>>12239685I did.

>>12251730i haven't tried the mods but there's 100% something fucky going on, i was emulating the ps2 version (derp) until i remembered it was on pc and when i tried the latter it was balls hard
>>12252176yeah the game just ramps up the difficulty until you die, and if you quick load after dying it never resets either. you have to go back to the main menu and load from there i think for it to properly reset. it's crappy even though everything else about the game is good and oddly enough only the fugitive difficulty does it. every game that has had adaptive difficulty ends up making it worse. i hate it.

Currently trying to get into JRPGs, but I'm not sure what to play and what not to play, what's good and what's not. Recommend me some shit or bitch about my choices or just say whatever's on your mind, the thread is about JRPGs and not just about meOnes I'm currently playing:>Etrian Odyssey HDAutistic as hell, grindy as fuck in the early game, playing it on "Expert" (original DS difficulty) because I'm not a pussy, but it gets better once you've gotten a few floors in.>Xenosaga Episode IThis is exactly the game I want to play. Story-heavy, not garbage, interesting-but-not-too-autistic mechanics, everything looks and feels pretty cool. Anything else like this, especially but not necessarily cyberpunk/mecha/sci-fi?>Dark Sun: Shattered LandsNot a JRPG, but I'm pretty blown away by how good it is, and I'm not making an entire thread just to say that so mentioning it here.Ones I've actually finished:>FF1Played it high on crystal meth when I was homeless a few years back and fought every single random encounter in the entire game. 4/10 by modern standards.>Pokemon (all of them)I'm a fan.Comment too long. >>12251980 >>12251983 character limit opinion on a game you played 2% of. You made your decision on the quality and the fans of the game before playing it. Its a game you should like but unfortunately your internet history turned you off it. If you want a recommendation I would suggest just looking up a top 100 jrpg list and just blindly trying the first game you never heard of as to not taint your experience.
I think you should try more SMT. Especially Nocturne, Strange Journey, and Digital Devil Saga.
>>12251883Bro just casually admits to being a homeless meth addict while talking about old RPGs. How'd you dig yourself outta that shit?
>>12251883What games do you recommend to play while high on meth?
>>12252039I did play like 15 minutes of Chrono Trigger one time. I'll finish that. I'm going to play the other SMT games first.>>12252053I went in expecting the god-tier masterpiece everyone primed me for, the holy grail of RPGs, the epitome of all games, and I got the game I would've written when I was 12.>just looking up a top 100 jrpg list and just blindly trying the first game you never heard ofGood idea. I'll probably try this.>>12252101I stopped buying it? It wasn't that hard or anything. You don't really get withdrawals from meth; I was sleepy for a week and felt like shit for lack of dopamine for a couple of months while my receptors upregulated. I'm not recommending it or anything, but I don't necessarily regret it; meth is fun. It was just causing more problems than it was solving. But it's not "hard to dig yourself out of"; you're thinking of heroin. Some people can use meth responsibly. I didn't, so I stopped. Simple as that. But I had fun.>>12252320Porn games. I mean, anything will do, but porn games will rock your world.>>12252062Yes. I did also play like half of Persona 1, and I have all of the Persona games in some form or another. They look cool.
Based ,pretty ballsy to have this message in a video game
>>12242494>The fact that you chose to write this big rant completely unprompted about how much of a hero you are and how evil everyone else is leads me to believe that you are the problemStated like an actual problem that both receives and gives advice online.People like you should be hanged in public view until the rest of you leave our civilization.

>>12252307wasn't that being worked on at some point? I thought I heard some noise about it a year or so ago. I was thinking about it again after beating Stray Children a few nights ago.
If you had your own arcade to populate with unusual, obscure, console-exclusive, hacked, and homebrew-style games what would you feature ?
Sasuke vs. Commander, Funky Fish, Enigma II, Jump Bug, Spiders, Mars, Devil Fish, Pulsar, Anteater, Eyes, Naughty Boy, Ponpoko, Super Locomotive, Lasso, Dr. Micro, etc.
>>12252256Can't forget Bongo either. A LordBBH classic (still mad at him for hating Mappy though).
>>12252248probably drop bubble booble with smash bros 64 and soc with something else, and that's just what i would pick for a display, the players can change out the games with whatever they want from our massive collection
R-Type III: The Third Lightning, which never got an arcade release. And just to be extra weird it would be the MSU-1 hack with CD audio.
TMNT x Justice League Turbo, a fan-game running on Ikemen go or Mugen. It's so well made there have even been tournaments for it.
how was this allowed?
>>12250664>its iron ma'am
>>12230330I read this entire thread and all I got out of it was that the Japs do not have the ability to have original thoughts and they may be pedophilic too
>>12245453>They'd never consciously admit that's what they're doing, but they fundamentally believe their (american) culture is superior and will naturally dominate non-american cultures, and that non-american cultures need to be placed in almost like a Nature Preserve because they think said cultures can't stand on their own two feet. setting aside a moment the belief belonging only to americans. Are you trying to say this never happens, that a larger culture dominates and irrevocably changes the smaller society? Not all societies create the same level of cultural pressure through a combination of factors. And in all of history, more dominant cultures actually do end up on a long enough timeline swallowing lesser cultures enough to the point where thru the lens of history we no longer distinguish between them. Its not universal, but it fuckin does happen. Rome basically did thru conquest, and thru culture spread accelerating after conquest.. And china did and does to this day with all the ethnicities under its current borders. Japan and Korea using kanji is a clear echo, but Japan had a geographical divide that at the time helped, and Korea became way more complicated with the communists, and with christian influence displacing China's spread. So no its not perfect but its a case of exceptions prove the rule.
>>12244165to be fair, Everyone copied Fender and Gibson. not just japanese.
I've been digging into retro computing and it's really changed my understanding and my perspective on gaming history. There's a lot of good shit (both Japanese and Western) that simply never gets talked about because it wasn't on a console. And some well-known developers made much cooler games when they focused on computers. For example, Square made some really cool games before moving to Famicom.Micro computers are especially cool. Also type-in programs are fun.Pic related but it's not my pic.
>>12252072I hate Mandarin, I really don't want to play games in it. Do they have some English like old Famicom games do?
>>12252073I'm learning chink so I'm playing retro Chinese romhacks. There is a big Chinese Famicom scene too, Famicom was a platform that chinks made original unlicensed games on into the 00s. Some of them look good actually. So I haven't gotten deep into it that much, it seems none of them have English translations or relevance on the English internet. It could change in the future, China might start making waves in the game industry soon and then that would generate interest in their old stuff
>>12251901>simply never gets talked about because it wasn't on a console.lol. You mean dosn't get tiktoked about. Grownups have been talking about old computers all along.
>>12251901Look, I know Hydlide was important for its time, but I'm still mad my mom paid $40 for it in 1989
>>12251901If you're into PC-88/98 stuff, I recommend checking out Basement Brothers on youtube
Just beat the first game on the Sega Master System . Great RPG that still holds up well and is easily as good as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest on the NES. I've already played through the 2nd game should I just skip 3 and go straight to playing the 4th though? I've heard 3 was made by a different team and isn't a good as the others It was
>>12251784The ironic thing is PS1 actually came out on Mega Drive, granted it was a straight port, no upgrades whatsoever of the MS game but it did come out on MD.
>>12252119There's also those weird remake versions of Phantasy Star 1 and 2 that only came out on the Japanese Playstation 2. They've been translated into English and are playable now but they definitely seem worse than just playing the originals
>>12252119According to Sega Retro, the MD version is literally the SMS version, as in it's not a port but an SMS game in a Mega Drive cartridge:>In 1994, Sega released a version for the Sega Mega Drive, Phantasy Star Fukkokuban (ファンタシースター 復刻版). This version is merely the Master System version on a Mega Drive cartridge PCB with the appropriate connector pin to signal Master System mode changed accordingly (which is how passthrough devices like the Power Base Converter work.) The situation behind this release is unknown, but it is generally believed that it was a contest giveaway.

I had put these games in a GBC fanny pack found for free in a rummage tub. They seem to align with recommended games so far.Wario Land III (came with the system, bought for $20 fifteen years ago)Metal Gear Solid (traded with a droopy titted scene chick for Nightmare Creatures on N64)Tetris & Metroid II (bought from a junkie friend of mine, PCP is a hell of a drug)Donkey Kong Land 2 (Recently bought after clearing DKL3)There's room in the console pocket for two more games so I slipped in James Bond 007 and A Boy and His Blob: The Rescue of Princess Blobette (Both from Goodwill before I had bought the GBC and was using a GBA SP).
>Pokemon Gold/Silver>Metroid II>Mario's Picross>Donkey Kong>Link's AwakeningHad to check through my rom folders and I don't really have much for gb/gbc. Mario Land and Wario Land are runner-ups for my list, but aside from them I don't know that many great games for the system.
