Why didn't consoles start coming with S-Video or Component cables by the 4th/5th gen or even the 6th gen? The picture quality is so much better than Composite it's not even funny and you'd think by the 5th gen or especially 6th gen they'd be more concerned with the way the graphical quality was perceived on a first impression, and with Composite you're just seeing blurry bullshit especially on the PS2.

For a digital format to be "good" it has to transmit clock data with the audio frames. It's why they left the clock off consumer digital formats - makes it harder to get a perfect copy of the signal.

I've noticed these activity stimulator comments of yours, they're always content-free. Are just sageing the thread and bumping /hhg/ to sell more useless e-waste?

Because of what TV's commonly had at the time. it's a very easy answer. Same reason the NES was in mono, stereo wasn't common yet in household TV shit.

Been playing this game lately, I'm very surprised by it in general:
Not only it looks very good for a GBC game (the animations are stellar), but it also plays very well, the cinematic 2D-platformer gameplay suits this franchise very well.
I played a bit of the GBA games (The Prophecy and Legend), they seem to be fine games too.

wonder how much of this is bias from childhood. I grew up with GBA and DS (both having unblurred, sharp pixel art) and the crt look has always seemed too fuzzy for me while raw pixels look fine
>>
>>12245082
it is just bias. There is no right way no matter what anyone tells you. Just go with your personal preference and don't worry about it aligning with random people online.
>>
>>12244403
how presumptuous
>>
>>12219190
Yes but only from a latency perspective, in all other aspects they are inferior but this however is extremely important in any action or platformer game.

CRT's match the game resolution for anything 480 and below but somehow make it look much lower res, shittier and they blur everything (probably has to do with the way the e-beam interacts with the phosphorous or reactive layer on the glass). You can see it in your own image. Then there is composite vs. rgb/component etc. and what your specific TV will take, emulating gives you the best possible picture quality and bypasses things like what outputs the console had and needing to do things like RGB mod, etc.

>>
>>12244759
I suppose so. At any rate you should definitely play both at least once. Try to play the original release version of the 90's RE1 though if you can. The later revisions of the PS1 game had a different soundtrack that is definitely worse. It's unfortunately the only version available on the Playstation stores now.

Has anyone here played the PC GOG version? Which soundtrack does it have?
>>
>>12242961
>It's a better experience anyway to play the remake after beating the original. They change many things around to mess with the player if you are too familiar with the original
This, the remake isn't just a remake, it's a response to the original. The remake assumes you know the mansion layout and puzzle logic and it plays off those preconceived notions. The changes are great, but they work better as a subversion of expectations.
Plus you can beat the original in just a couple of days, so just do it.

Kind of my point, as you get older your imagination isn't filling in as many of the details, but starting at the very beginning with Oak's speech about Pokemon, the lore in the Pokedex entries, the second city seeing a Machop "building" as part of a construction crew, third city there's even a museum of Pokemon...
Even though it's not an overt part of the story, if you actually spent time in Gen 1 there was plenty of detail to get lost into as a kid.

they do, but they're focused on dating sim types instead of horror. There's a couple drama and suspenful ones that aren't dating sims but they lack the cool UI like the one in your image and it doesn't match the production values like the gore effects of Phantasmagoria.

The Bluth games are pretty intuitive when you have the light up sections of the screen to indicate what to press. Then it just becomes proto-QTE/DDR. Playing something like Brain Dead 13 on the other hand is ball busting.

i could see it being cool if it happened earlier in the story, but by that point he couldn't do much anyway other than maybe invade the factory and try and take it for his own. which would be cool, but also just help the rest of the party in getting to smithy and not do much for himself in the grand scheme so it would mostly seem forced imo. plus we'd never get to learn of bowser's literary prowess.
>>
>>12245223
Well I think the reason those OC's get made is because Nintendo is very restrictive on what can be done with their characters.

The Samsung Game Boy System lacked the FM sound ASIC chip, so the console had to offload audio processing to the video chip’s VRAM. This caused massive bus contention whenever you tried to launch sega card apps, forcing the Space Harrier UEFI to underclock itself just to prevent the system from overheating. That's why card apps flicker so much on the Game Boy because the sound channels are fighting for bandwidth with the sprite layer.
