Defeat is temporary, let's see some game over screens.
>>12056221Also a good one.

>>12039261>>12058519Until today, I never knew it was possible to beat the game by surviving the entire week. I never got anywhere close. That is one rough neighborhood >>12055702.

This is a fun game but holy shit the palette on the first level is so utterly obnoxious. Was everyone at SEGA involved in this colorblind or something?
>>12061537And it shows, GG Shinobi looks so fucking good
>>12061529Ive always thought the Master System had a pretty garish color palette. It can be used well (Phantasy Star is gorgeous), but so many titles have graphics that look like cheap injection molded toys you would see at the dollar store as a kid.
>>12061549based frogs, that's some good ass pixel art
>>12061549background art that looks a generation ahead.

>>12060530Well, I'm glad I didn't look up a guide because I figured it out. I was laying in bed half asleep this morning, running through the level mentally and a solution came to me, and I thought "no... that couldn't be it", and it was. I won't spoil it in case the other anon who started playing the games gets to this point, but it's tricky and you have to put yourself into a potential softlock scenario to do it. Unfortunately, the next level's password is "HRDR"... I don't know how it could be much harder than the last level, but there are still 2 more levels in this world and a whole final world to go.
>>12059871>t. hunchback fag>>12059881>groobyHow’s the map going?
>>12060712>reminds me of EV Nova where the shareware reminder guy eventually starts killing you on sightAnd yet, we never hated him because that was a fun, creative way of getting people to pay for the game. Can’t see any devs doing that today.
>>12060771>>12061567Good to see you back Nimosh anon, I'll update your link for next thread.>muh groobyI haven't worked on it in a very long time. I hate forcing myself to do things, so I'm waiting for the day where I get that little burst of inspiration before I return to it.
Ps1 had an open world batman game way before it was cool
>>12061167https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceHDax8XQGE
>>12061197That's the sad part. I agree, it doesn't feel like a shitty cash-in. Or at least, not by the devs. This game was clearly too ambitious for it's time, or at least for the PS1, and I assume the time constraints the publisher put on the devs so that it comes out in time for the movie. Something like this would have needed a much longer dev cycle, and possibly needed to come out on a gen 6 system. The devs clearly had some ambitious ideas and tried, but it was too little dev time and too ambitious a game for both the hardware and the time, resulting in an unplayable mess.
It's also really bad
>>12061024I used to love this game, I probably still got a copy somewhere
I owned this game. I wanted it to be good so bad. I could see the potential in it with a open Gotham, driving around collecting clues to get leads to stop the criminals. I kept coming back to it hoping that I would break through and it would finally become good. Never happened, the controls are so bad, the combat so bad, everything so bad. Wasted potential.
Where do I get started with this genre?
>>12060751Post it
>>12060953I'm the only person outside japan actively playing this game. You can easily find my run on youtube, but here's my backup just in case.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IFWKFLKIfu5FlAkbaWEAkSQMptWItFNx/viewFUCK! I'm addicted to this shit. I even dropped my daily gacha habits after starting doing No Miss runs. It feels amazing to be able to consistently clear this game. This game will be 30yo next year and only a few weeks ago I started doing No Miss runs and for some reason nobody outside japan ever did No Miss until now. For a game this popular, you would expect at least one No Miss run from the western shmup community after all these years. Yeah I know, the route to keep the rank low can be a little boring for some people, but that's what makes it so interesting for me. And now I'm on my way to do the same with Extended Mode. This one won't be easy, but it will be more fun than trying to NMNB with the trash ships that don't have piercing shot (silver sword, flying baron, chitta and bornnam).
>>12061105Okay I saw your run, the precision on display is quite a marvel. Very nice, anon.
>>12056585Updated, this is probably a little more accurate
>>12061164Yeah, hopefully I didn't abuse my luck in that run. I'm sure I can make it to BH2, but Glow Squid is gonna be a massive wall if I don't stockpile bombs and extra lives. And that's only for his first phase. His second phase can go terribly wrong, because it's entirely RNG based.
I've dabbled in game gear and appreciate the sonic games as separate games enjoyed in a different way. What other games are good on game gear and worth playing? Also game gear thread. Please no sms games as I'm sure we're all tired of hearing about it. I'm just curious about game gear games. I recently got one and a ngpc... So I guess recommend ngpc games too
>>12059692Maybe check out defenders of Oasis. Nothing spectacular, but good.
>>12059271>even the handheld from 2 years after was betterRiveting
>>12060446It actually wasn’t, because it had a passive matrix display.
>>12056390How come no one bothered to make translations for the others, or simply port the Sega CD scripts?
>>12061559They can be played on Sega CD but I understand your point>>12059692Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible looks pretty goodI played Defenders of Oasis and it wasn't very good, basic and not well balanced
Anyone try it?https://archive.org/details/clock-tower-advance/I like "downgrade port" homebrew like this, I know some people think it's pointless but it's still cool to see
>>12058101Thanks for the reminder, anon. It will be nice to play this comfy in bed next month.
>>12058101How is it a downgrade? I just wonder yhis since gba had a tool (program) that allowed you to port any snes rom as long didn't have special chips (i think i still have it) the only thing that was messed were the buttons.>select +R = X>select + L = YBut was expected because gba had 4 buttoms, so nothing is a surprise unless he ported and made a shitty port since gba was quite powerfull unlike the image it has of being worse then snes.>>12058272>why gba?Is easier to port just that, people could port star ocean but don't want since they will end with huge size roms (around 128 MB).>>12058272But isn't novelty, kept doing that for 5 years until gba died with rom converter for gba.>gbc to gba>gb to gba>snes to gba>game gear to gba
>>12058478Yeah, and that version you should avoid!>>12058575>>12058949>>12058963What is your problem?

What if we got this instead of The Great Escape? The game was made by japanese devs though.

>>12060829Neither game was made by Japanese devs, you retard.
>>12061182zoomers are indistinguishable from bots
>>12061331Same with ESLs
I played what I surmised to be the three greatest adventure/epic action games of the classic era, and was very disappointed that two of them had tons of weapons and magic spells that are pretty much useless compared to simple melee attacks That's these two, Super Metroid was the third and I applaud how much not only is every new tool not only practical but necessary, but even every little expansion of basic health and stock is felt heavily
>>12059002I couldn't even tell when the clip looped for a bit kek
>>12059136I was born in 89, I'm a real metalhead, a comic book purist, an authority of horror films, and the best fighting game player in the Midwest Nobody of my generation whose real cares about faggot journos, your taste is casual trendy and garbage because you do
games don't have to be hard to be good, also i find it really funny how SOTN's most echoed criticism is it's difficulty when the most highly regarded game in the series, aria of sorrow is one of the easiest ones and much easier than SOTN
>>12057442ALTTP is miles better than Super Metroid.Super Metroid is one of the most braindead, easy, casualized games in not just the SNES library, but all of gaming (outside of like two bossfights).I just can't get over how the game gives you up to 14 energy tanks, 4 supply tanks, 2 suits that both double your HP, has energy refills in every zone, every other room has those little geysers that infinitely spawn weak trashmobs to top off your health and ammo quickly, and every single enemy in the game drops a huge amount of health and resources. It's actually almost impossible to die outside of bossfights unless you really try and just sit there and facetank enemies for minutes on end without shooting. Not even one single (non-boss) enemy or hazard in the game poses any threat whatsoever to the point that they exist solely as an extremely minor inconvenience, like a harmless gnat just buzzing around you.It just kills the entire game. What's the fucking point? It's like you're playing with invincibility cheat on at all times. It's not even an exaggeration to say that around 98% of this game is just a walking sim, a glorified cutscene, where there is zero challenge and zero stakes, and it requires zero thought, skill, strategy, or focus from the player. You just wander around scanning every tile of every room, and all the enemies, hazards, and most of the bosses might as well not even be there because they add nothing except the slightest bit of inconvenience.
>>12059136Why do people get so mad about people trying to have any kind of discussion on SotN? It is very visibly a flawed game, and Iga went on to make about six more of them that were all better in some way or another, so we have that to directly compare it to.
Mikami has to be at least number 2 after Shigeru in terms of most legendary video game developers.Only Yu Suzuki comes close but imo he's more like 4th place (3rd is Horii)Anyway, favorite Mikami game?As much as I love God Hand, RE4 is still the GOAT.
>>12057726Why did he shit himself in rage so hard after the Capcom 5 fiasco? Of course the games were going to be ported, the PS2 was way bigger than the gamecube.
It's a work of art
>>12058620Oh wow, I didn't know Shinji Mikami singlehandedly made Rockman!
>>12057748one hit wonders
>>12060958I always heard he didn't actually do anything on this game other than swing his dick around to make sure capcom didn't stop Suda from doing whatever he wanted. Which is extremely based, honestly, and he definitely earned a credit for that.
Do you prefer simulation racing or arcade style racing?
>>12059587>>12061202Gran Turismo and Forza are simcade
>>12059587The sweet spot has always been early simcade (Gran Turismo, Colin McRae) and arcade racers with handling depth (Wipeout). It's crazy to think a genre like racing games should have peaked with the PSX, but so it is.
>>12061202Enlightened centrist genre.
>>12059694>Welcome friends!>Do not redeem the balloons!
>>12061384You know what, I enjoyed Dirt 1 on PC with my g25 steering wheel so much, driving through the dust and ripping drifts in that game was super fun. I played more GT2 and 4 before 5 came out, did so much driting in Prelude withthe Skyline I got to #13. Sometimes games are fun for being silly and othertimes games are fun for being a hard slog of perfection tweaking it all to get a 0.01 of a second off
Campaign, skirmish, coop, ums. Discuss.Fav solo map? Fav faction? Fav unit compositions?
What's the story behind this smoky "river" in Brood War?
>>12061028Just a pre-release asset that was removed
>>12061043No, I mean why was it removed and replaced with boring oil river? It looked cool.
What does the military rank of terran units mean? Is it just some leftover from the "level" of Warcraft 2 units that told the amount of upgrades they have?
>>12061028>valks shooting hydrasIt's crazy how different units used to be
>>12060256Serious Pepe blows so fucking much that not even Fred Durst could save it.Now a smug Pepe version of Fred Durst would be S tier.
IF ONLY WE COULD HOP (HOP, HOP)
My favorite Frogger is the PSX one.
>>12060884
>>12061185One of my favorite vidya memories was sitting with my bro on the couch stoned out of our minds, playing the Bow Wow Revenge level for hours. Call me filtered if you want, but Frogger: He's Back! is fucking hard. I would have liked to play score attack, but we were getting our ass' whooped just trying to clear!
What's your favorite retro Pokémon?
>>12059232>>>/vp/
>>12060985Maybe it was like that in America but here anime has always been seen as more mature than western cartoons.
>>12060080Great taste all around
My daughter
The icon himself. Pikachu.
What went wrong?
>>12059926What killed them was trying to be Bethesda with Gothic 3 while lacking the budget and talent
They byted?
Publisher fucked them over for gothic 3 and that was it.Most of the competent team left. The others just kept recycling gothic 2 but made worse until they closed down.
>>12059801>they made the same game but bigger, and with a more generic premise. The story progression for Gothic 2 is iconic in how it manages to capture its premise and makes it compelling.
>>12061334and, again, it's the same scheme as gothic 1 repeated at a larger scale. the way you are gatekept from free travel by difficulty, the factions, the way membership opens up inner areas, the way you progress from doing mundane jobs to fantasy heroism with magical artifacts etc etc. it's all from g1. there is a visionary quality to g1 that none of their later games display, even if g2 is a better execution of those ideas. that's why i think the main creative force in the studio must have been one of the founders that quit after g1.
