So when are they going to make component cables for gamecube that A. are decent and B. not $400?

Picrel for me. Every couple of weeks my siblings and I would decide we were finally going to beat Athena. But sadly it's one of the most obscureshit games on the NES and we never got too far. I still think about it sometimes. And sometimes I still feel the pull to go back and play it again, but it would probably be with guides and at that point why even bother.

Dynamite Headdy. Always died in the tower level.
>>
>>12478895
It had more potential with the top down sections. Could have had another underwater part that was less gruelling.
Just an unfortunate release that needed more time in development, or feedback from people who would tell them.
3 on nes kind of bridged them being able to select any turtle like in 1, but play style of 2.

as a kid probably DKC or Turtles in Time. My cousin and i could never get passed the snow levels in dkc nor Krang in TMNT

Time Lord NES
I could never figure out what the pirate level wanted me to do as a kid. Going back and trying it years later, I got bogged down in the ww2 level and could just about limp into the last stage. Honestly I just wasnt having fun with it and gave up.
Ultimately I am happy to let this game remain the one that got away.
>>
>>12474378
I doubt anyone's every beaten Athena without a Game Genie.

I know harddrives and whatnots seem to be popular around here, but this is a question for the collectors around here.
Do you and where do you import games? I live in a PAL region and I recently made my PS2 regionfree and I'm looking to buy some games I was never allowed to.
Naturally I mean sites that sell all retro import games and if anyone know any good ones.

Also general discussion. What have you bought recently? Are you looking for something specific?

I do too, but I want to own the actual games I play.
>>
>>12480593
If you plan to actually play your games and not use them as decorations you should look at used goods marketplaces like Mecari or Yahoo Auctions . Then you can hire a proxy service to order and ship it for you.
>>
>>12480628
Yes, the idea is to buy games to play, not to display
>>
>>12480593
I used to get most if mine from ebay back when it was cheaper. Consolegoods used to be alright, UK based and got a few mod chips there too. Not sure what it's like these days. Sometimes I stumbled upon random sites when searching for a specific game

^This.

I'm assuming pic related, Monkey Mayhem from Time Splitters 2? How much more racist can a level get? Just look at the mission description:
>"Some evil circus clowns have ENSLAVED the performing black Monkey niggers and forced them to carry their WATER MELONS! Free the black Monkey niggers by shooting the WATER MELONS out of their paws, but aim carefully..."
Wow I'm surprised Free Radical Design (Rare?) was able to get away with this blatantly racist joke. Even by the lenient standards of 2002 it still feels like the ESRB would not allow such mature content in a video game unless it was rated AO

Also on the topic of Time Splitters I should ensure this thread is somewhat high effort I.E. pitch a few questions to anon like:
>Who is the most powerful character in the TS Trilogy? (Lore-wise)
>Who is the most powerful character in the TS Trilogy? (Gameplay-wise)
>Who is the least powerful character in the TS Trilogy? (Lore-wise)
>Who is the least powerful character in the TS Trilogy? (Gameplay-wise)
>Who is your favorite character in the TS Trilogy?
>Who is your least favorite character in the TS Trilogy?
>Who is the highest IQ character in the TS Trilogy?
>Who is the lowest IQ character in the TS Trilogy?
>Who is the most based character in the TS Trilogy?
>Who is the most cringe character in the TS Trilogy?

To be fair 90% of the game happens in cramped corners, so i guess it's alright.
Later on as the stages grow in size, you get a plasma gun. Which has the best reloading animation and sound FX.

I'm almost always firing a couple of shots and reloading just to hear that high-pitched mechanical whirl, even though it has a huge clip size.
>>
>>12479125
I don't know, I heard the Xbox port is technically impressive but still worst way to play the game
>>
>>12479217
I love the plasma rifle too, I'm happy they brought the design back for 2016.
>>
>>12479223
It's not technically impressive.
It looks bad, stutters and load a lot (due to low ram and slow hdd) and run at 10~20 fps. Black is the opposite.

What went wrong? Why did it fail so hard in America?

>that somehows proves that people didn't know Toriyama?
No, just the ones in America who mostly didn't even know or care he existed for much of the 90s.

>had the games released people would have recognized Toriyama's art, reviewers and marketing would have mentionned it's by the maker of Dragon Ball (Z), etc which is exactly what happened when DQ8 released
Most only saw the free demo for Final Fantasy XII that came with DQ8 as the main selling point. The US was still firmly in the FF camp.
>>
>>12482662
>You're focusing on Dragon Ball being "not popular" when Dragon Ball Z was, since 1990, and that somehows proves that people didn't know Toriyama?
Jesus Christ.
The point was that neither Dragon Ball nor DBZ had any international distribution outside of France and Hong Kong at the time Dragon Quest released internationally, no manga until 1993, and fansubs had a 1-2 year timelag as they were Laserdisc-to-Amiga for subbing and then video capture card-toVHS mail order to anime clubs in universities. I didnt get my early white cassette tape bootleg fansubs of freiza saga until 1996 and those were from chinatown and they used chinese names for every character. There was nothing like this in 1989, anywhere west of HK.
Magazines like Animerica that shared early DBZ info with the west did not begin publishing until 1992.

I am not saying "regular DB was less popular" I am saying "people not living in Japan had literally no possible exposure to any Toriyama works and never knew the man existed". You are really struggling with this concept. Its not America centric, it was the whole fucking world lacking any form of distribution.

>I don't believe one second you lived through any of this btw.
I very much did, but I didnt own a fucking time machine. You reek of being an under 30 year old wikipedia kid who sees japanese release dates of games and media and are oblivious to the insanely long propagation time of information in the the pre-www world. It is beyond your comprehension for someone born after 1995, akin to how gen alpha are not being able to imagine a pre-smartphone world.
>>
> Why did it fail so hard in America?
Because it came out in late 1989, that's it. That said, I still know some people that played and loved it at the time.
>>
>>12482247
I never knew a single person who did. Nintendo was using the term "game pak" as part of the marketing push to not be associated with anything related to the video game crash in the early 80s.

>Hope you're ready for some fun game paks!
>I thought we were having cartridges.
>Oh no, I said "game paks"! That's what I call cartridges.
>You call cartridges "game paks"?
>Yes! It's a regional dialect.
>>
>>12483071
>What region?
>Washington state.
>Really? I'm from Seattle and I've never heard it before.
>Oh, uh... it's a Redmond expression.

>>
>>12482918
nothing wrong with that, emulators in the '90s had those simple scanline filters and lookin'-good filters (2xsai and super eagle and whatever they were called) to make up for the difference, if we'd had modern TV shaders back then we'd used them.

the artstyle in dw3 is quite nice, its good sprite work but thats inferior to the original game which really pushed the hardware. Grunge and hyper-realism, dw1 was a 360 game 10 years ahead of the curve. Digital world being made of reused human garbage instead of being a stylized anime world. DW1 also had a shit load of mini games like the holy trinity of final fantasy games on the PS1 , versus mode, its just very fully featured. Yeah the mechanics are a little obtuse- numemon, fat tyranomon when you are going for greymon - that is part of what keeps it relevent today. Consider how long it took for squaresoft to try and do an ATB battle system that involved movement on the field- thats effectively what DW1 is. The invisible bridge was a pretty mind bending moment that i doubt anyone could ever forget.

DW3 had the best story of the ps1 DW games but if you are into autistic collectathons i think DW2 has better combat.

I would say that my waifu has fairly good, but not exceptional luck. She does game, but they don't really show what kinds of games.
Arcade games and pinball tables have unfortunately been difficult to find around these parts for a long time, but when I did find them, I always liked the Time Crisis and House Of The Dead cabinets, since that was a kind of game I couldn't experience at home.

House Of The Dead fits her style more so let's say that one, and then accounting for her not being a gunslinger, I'd say that maybe I could.
Perhaps we would repeatedly one-up each other's scores for a time.

14 replies and 6 images omitted. Click here to view.

>>12476789
Maybe, but I imagine the art would've been more different bwtween regions. The Japanese and European art of the first game have the iconic shot of the team looking on in space while the Arwings fly overhead, meanwhile the American art changes it to Fox by himself with the Arwings looking more frantic. I think the Japanese/European art would've emphasized the team like the final box, but the American cover would've shown off the ships and walker.

No, I don't prefer the original Star Fox 2 box art "than" what we got in 2017, because "than" doesn't belong in that sentence. I prefer the original box art TO what we got in 2017, because that is grammatically and factually correct.
