Hello again anons, welcome back for volume 13 of Moto Hagio's A Savage God Reigns. After Jeremy says he plans to go back to Boston, and Nadia discovers the messy truth of Ian's affair, Ian tries to make amends by planning a bicycle tour through the English countryside. But the relationship between the three of them remains tense...The works of Hagio and her contemporaries ("the '49ers") represented an experimental new direction in girls' and women's manga in terms of both content and style. I hope some anons who might be unfamiliar with these mangaka and their works, or who might generally avoid girls' comics or older manga altogether, will consider reading along and trying something new. You might be surprised. For those who would like to catch up and join in, here are the previous threads:Vol. 1: >>268448441Vol. 2: >>268501695Vol. 3: >>268540638Vol. 4: >>268581029Vol. 5: >>268615427Vol. 6: >>268647910Vol. 7: >>268683142Vol. 8: >>268721319Vol. 9: >>268755228Vol. 10: >>268782676Vol. 11: >>268822559Vol. 12: >>268853844For the Japanese-speaking anons among us: tinyurl dot com slash 4wj859ppAnd so it goes...

Reading bump
>>268889390>>268889407Well at least he's gaining some self awareness.
>>268889270>It's hard to decide what I like the most about England, but I would say its houses. "An Englishman's home is his castle", I think the saying is? That's how comfortable English homes are. Windows and curtains. Doormats. Bedrooms. Stairs. Toilets, sinks, bathrooms. A space that's just right, without too much or little. Lights. Tables. Chairs. Gardens. The quiet and calm and lush large trees of residential areas. Peaceful nights, birds chirping in the mornings. On cold days and on hot days, the home is comfortable.
>>268889599most flattering ian
>>268889599>>268892407>ask the ian receptionist if their ian is sad or wet>its wet
>>268889932I really like this memory of Greg being included. It's so hard to reconcile the memory of a comforting father with the knowledge of what a horrific abuser he is, but both were Greg.
>>268889980Literally every bad idea Ian has is Lindon's fault
>>268890018Lindon does not even know what's happening lol
>>268890178Is this a parody of a specific painting? It looks familiar.
I haven't caught up yet and I've ruined by sleep schedule already, but I found some old edits I can share.
>>268893091godspeed, anon
>>268890353Ian, that is the absolute last thought you should be having.
>>268889539>>268889554>>268889572Hagio is going hard again with the metaphors this volume and I love it.
Who would you guys cast for the anime (never)? I'm thinking something likeJeremy: Fukuyama JunGreg: Koyasu TakehitoSandra: Oohara SayakaIan: Suwabe JunichiNadia: Hayami SaoriMarjorie: Iguchi Yuka
>>268890301This is something I always thought was Ian fucking up because it seems like a blatant case of re-traumatizing, but according to the Trauma Recovery book Hagio read, this is actually pretty important to moving on because your brain will be stuck on these events until you can face them and accept them. Burying them (supposedly) does not work. The main thing he messed up on is you're supposed to do this in a supportive environment with a trained professional and the person retelling the events should not be under pressure. Ian is not trained and is asking questions that are phrased a bit judgmentally. He means well, but this could have been done in a healthier way.
>>268893319I'm not that familiar with seiyuu but I'd be more curious about what director could have pulled it off.
>>268891457>>268891473Well that escalated quickly.
>>268890265highly rated greggu
>>268889420Not today, Greg.
>>268890353>how close were you to the mediterranean? this is very important
>>268823114Ok first of all, calling the tube "the metro"? Greenwich isn't even on the Metro line. Second, what the fuck kinda kettle is this? Ian are you scared of corded kettles or something? Third, "I'll do some reflecting by which I mean I'll announce I've been reflecting". Fourth, Jeremy saying stove instead of hob is very American here, accidentally correct.>>268823121Jesus Ian, what are your counters made of that you'll put a kettle straight from the hob onto the surface directly? Jeremy why are you heating milk for tea? You're putting loose leaf directly in the kettle and you don't even have a strainer on either mug? What is going on here? It's 6:50am and I've been thoroughly Gregged.>>268823136SHIT IAN YOU PUT THE KETTLE BACK ON THE HEAT. JEREMY DON'T YOU DARE CONSIDER MICROWAVING TEA.
>>268889716All the random “aahs” in this translation are cracking me up. It’s ああ, a masculine form of “yes”. Ian in particular uses it often.
>>268892279This is making me worried for japanese homes. Do they not have these things? Most of them sound like basic amenities.
it's late but i'm only 25% in, i beseech someone to keep this bumped until i wake up
>>268893507It actually doesn’t have to be that complicated. For people who don’t want to talk to strangers about their experiences for whatever reason, simply stating their traumas and fears out loud to themselves or to a person they trust can be immensely helpful. It chases away the formless anxieties we have in our heads and turns a terrifying memory or worry into something much flatter and less threatening.
>>268894169Japanese homes are genuinely shit. As a Yuropoor, I’ve never realized just how well our houses are insulated until I visited Japan in November. It was 12C, which is T-shirt weather for me, but indoors I was fucking freezing. Meanwhile, here in Central Europe we don’t even have to turn on the heating until the temperatures drop well below zero.
