It's time for today's volume of 10 eerie episodes of anthology horror in the lead up to Halloween!Previous threads:Vol. 1 - >>283204443Vol. 2 - >>283221488Vol. 3 - >>283247038Vol. 4 - >>283270423Vol. 5 - >>283296139Vol. 6 - >>283324175Vol. 7 - >>283347083Join us.
So about the cover for today's volume...Uh, don't worry about that.Ch. 71
>>283370158Very topical.
>>283370266checked, and they look a lot like the main characters
>>283370475I dont know much about jumping-style suicides, but is it common to have your body deform that much? like a family guy skit?
>>283370491>checked, and they look a lot like the main charactersI'm sure the uncanny resemblance has symbolic meaning...
Interlude (There are 3 people in this scene)
>>283370475At least they're A.I.s together?
Ch. 72
>>283370475I like this one
>Gives a whole new meaning to the comments about there being another side to someone in >>283370717 and being two-faced in >>283370742
Yuuma's in far too deep...Notice how his room is messed up and the calendar has starting to peel off the wall in >>283370599
>>283370538>>283370599Even with the police there that night, his dad still raped him after. Had Officer Takayanagi just been more patient he definitely could have caught him even without Yuuma's cooperation.
Ch. 73
>>283370969This story isn't one of the better ones but it does have a very dreamlike atmosphere. It also reveals Yuuma's fear and uncertainty about Kido and perhaps someone else too.
>>283371094wait, was actual rape? I thought it was just drunk father beatings.
>>283371251I can't take doll scary stories anymore after THAT hentai. Everytime i see is a scary doll my instant solution is to fuck it kek.
>>283370081I just kinda realized just how wide the MCs head is.
Notice how this chapter revolves around attempting to save someone from a horrible fate much like how Yuuma badly wants to save Hina
>>283371601Solid plan!
Ch. 74
>>283371637It breaks my heart every-time i see her like that
>>283371383It's ambiguous. Anons have pointed out that the bed tends to get messed up on Fridays, but then so does the rest of the room. Personally I lean towards no.
>>283371676>It breaks my heart every-time i see her like thatShe's a good girl. Some might even say best..
>>283371055You know, him repeating only the dialog that we got to see makes it seem like the police officer said that and immediately left
>>283370522Maybe their bodies look deformed because they're healing/repairing themselves? They are AI after all.
>>283370538Yuuma stopped shivering when Kido reassured him.>>283370994This is the first time Yuuma's expressed faith in an adult.>>283371601...And he's gotten over it.
>>283370969The real question is how the classmate never noticed she had two faces. Classmate sat behind the two-faced girl for an entire semester, she should have seen the other face before now.
It's a Hina story after all ;_;
>>283371546I feel bad for the doll. It was trying to save him. Is it just me or does the doll look like Mo?
>>283371100Kinda shitty that he's not asking for the officer's help right away with helping Hina
Ch. 75 - Three quarters of the way...
>>283372137I think the kid is dead-on finishing his 100 stories and he thinks if he asks Constantine directly may jeopardize it somehow.
>>283371965We saw the back of her head during their conversation at school. She didn't have a second face, her head was completely normally shaped.
>>283372189I know, but helping her now is more important. After all the policeman knows about 'us' and the stories and he hasn't stopped him yet
>>283372197Mirror gives me flashbacks to that one Jigoku Sensei Nube story with cursed mirror that caused rapid aging.
>>283372137He was going to. Until he realized what "putting an end to this at the source" meant. He now believes, probably correctly, that the next time the officer comes back he's going to try and stop the stories.
>>283372247eh at this point we suspect the 100 stories is a fucking huge ritual of some sort and not a game anymore. The kid is basically on a shaman-tier trance to prioritize it so he's not like he has a choice.
>>283372366> Fine artsCome on, do you really need a magic mirror to know you are going to be broke?
>>283372334Going by other manga telling 100 scary stories is a ritual to create a new yokai or turns the person telling the 100 scary stories into a yokai/demon.
>>283372286I find it curious how the rumor phrases it as the future 1 year from now, yet they also believe they can change that future
>>283372428Apparently, she becomes Slender Man(woman?) in a year
Well he did issue a warning back in >>283372255
>>283372488yeah this one was kind of predictable
Ch. 76>Hina's weakening smile
>>283371546This one was basically the opposite of the one with the woman and her dead boyfriend's cologne.
>>283372596>This one was basically the opposite of the one with the woman and her dead boyfriend's cologne. That's actually an excellent comparison and contrast.
>>283372063I thought the opposite, i thought the doll closed the door so he could not escape. But now I think you are right.
>>283372622Little too autobiographical Yuuma.
>>283370266Even AI girls are neurotic; there is no hope.
Ch. 77
>>283372926NOOO, ffs another character I like to the grave. Now i kind of understand people that like one piece
>>283372926RIP dude
>>283372926I remember talking with one of my university proffesor and he told me where he used to live when he was a child about the witchcraft that some people practiced, and it looks exactly like that, except it started with a small hit or animal bite (that normally wouldn't do anything) and it rotted from there, no amount of anti-biotics, anti-virals worked, until they had to find another witch to remove the curse and then the time to recovery was incredibly fast. Scary stuff.
>>283372926Press F to pay respect
>>283370522Yeah, jumping fucks your internals up badly. You end up a bag of mush when they come to collect you. I've seen one aftermath where a man's intestines where forced down his leg and on autopsy was sticking out of the heel of his foot.
>>283373104This is like the old Goosebumps book Go Eat Worms! with ants
>>283373095>I remember talking with one of my university proffesor and he told me where he used to live when he was a child about the witchcraft that some people practiced, and it looks exactly like that, except it started with a small hit or animal bite (that normally wouldn't do anything) and it rotted from there, no amount of anti-biotics, anti-virals worked, until they had to find another witch to remove the curse and then the time to recovery was incredibly fast. Scary stuff.Really spooky.
>>283373125>This is like the old Goosebumps book Go Eat Worms! with antsI was actually reminded of the same thing.
>That wasn't the plan..>THAT WASN'T THE PLAN
Ch. 78
>>283373280People have already said it, but this guy is amazing at drawing expressions.
>>283373306I'm surprised that computer has survived the weekly sessions with dad.
>>283373358oh fuck i dont like where this is going. The believe of pigs being actual people is unnerving to me.
>>283373343>>283373358>>283373372This is probably the most WTF story so far
>>283373374>oh fuck i dont like where this is going. The believe of pigs being actual people is unnerving to me.>>283373388>This is probably the most WTF story so farCannot argue against these desu.
>>283373505Come on, how many pigs do you know they can draw your family? At this point is just denial
>>283373462>>283373505Can drawShits on bedok
>>283373520If it's their daughter then why did she shit on the bed?
>>283373530>>283373538she was a weird kid ok?
>>283373543Is it weird that I immediately knew this was the end or was it obvious to everyone?
Welp
>>283373543Mom wanted the family to move on.
>>283373562yeah some stories are kind of predictable, is better to try and find parallels to the MC and his situation when that happens. Also we have read a shitton of stories at this point, patterns will be found eventually
Ch. 79
>>283373582Also freed her daughter from being a pig. She should have picked a turtle instead.
>>283373582yeah, is sad but living like that cannot be healthy in the long term. The feast is the thing I have problem with.
>>283373601>She should have picked a turtle instead.Glad I'm not the only one who drew parallels with that chapter too.>>283373614>yeah, is sad but living like that cannot be healthy in the long term. The feast is the thing I have problem with.Fair.
>>283373616>Ichi>Ni>MiI wonder if this will be relevant in any way
>>283373543Dont mind me, Im just making some reaction pics
>>283373579Damn i honestly thought he was going to live, he was a good guy until the very end.
>>283372875Get 'im, Takumi.
>>283373561For some reason number 70 on the calendar goes from being crossed out in panel two to not being crossed out for the rest of the chapter.
>>283372926Based hero.
>>283373652>Ichi>Ni>Mi>I wonder if this will be relevant in any wayNice catch. It's the reverse order of characters' focus. Even the Rei in Reijima also means 0 in counting to complete the set>>283373728>For some reason number 70 on the calendar goes from being crossed out in panel two to not being crossed out for the rest of the chapter.Might be an author goof or something more as it's such an odd detail to change.
Hina please...
Interlude
>>283373901> walter_white_screaming_in_van.jpegNOOO, HINA, dont touch us.
Ch. 80
>>283371482Sauce?
>>283373901Don't let Detective Kido's death be in vain Hina.
>>283373961i don't remember the name, but the MC is one of those buffed asian Buddhist exorcist and each episode he "Exorcises" a dangerous spirit by raping it:> a doll> that lady with the scissors that ask if you find her pretty> a catgirl
>>283374038I like how the artist adds the winks in the eyes basically erasing the chibi aspect and making it scary, like is not eyes anymore but some sort of deformity.
>>283373922Wait, have all interludes been references?
>>283373997>>283374017The guard and inmates faces literally being anime happy faces sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the manga's artstyle.
>>283374076>I like how the artist adds the winks in the eyes basically erasing the chibi aspect and making it scary, like is not eyes anymore but some sort of deformity.Agreed.
>>283374026Semen is charged with yang energy, while evil spirits are typically yin energy, so the basic methodology checks out
I've heard of changing someone's mind, but...
>>283372581He told him the dolls were hard to make. It's like Yuuma thought this was a shonen manga where characters always have another trick up their sleeves.
>>283374153Yuuma probably thought it was one of those minecraft totems kek.
>>283373997>>283374017Happy Happy Joy JoyHappy Happy Joy Joy
>>283374250Yeah, i saw that coming, mostly because its the ending of the movie "Brazil"
>>283374153>It's like Yuuma thought this was a shonen mangaThe guy had a sharingan. What else was he supposed to think?
>>283374301now that i think about it, Hina must feel pretty shit because she's the one who told Yuuma about the 100 stories, I know it was to buy him time so he wont kill himself, but still made things a lot worse :(
>>283374301>>283374322HINAAAA!! Please be ok...
D:
>>283373967>>283374038*squish*
And that's all for volume 8, we'll pick back up with volume 9 tomorrow (5-6 PM CST). Hope everyone enjoyed.
>>283374342NOOOO, leave her aloneI like how the stationary POV makes you feel hopeless to the situation.
>>283374342Poor Hina has become an opp, possessed by something evil.
>>283374342I can't believe we're fucking dead bro.
>>283374342Reminds me of the astral projection story. Which I still think is the most fucked up one.
>>283374274Wow, I wonder why Yuuma keeps leaving Hina alone in the room...
>>283374380Absolutely. Also, I like how even the scanlation credits in the bottom-right corner were burned away alongside the comic panels.
>>283371771Sora and Riku?
>>283374414>Which I still think is the most fucked up oneFor me it's the child vending machine, with the exorcism one as a close second.
>>283374342AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
>>283374368Thanks OP
>>283370158Must suck to be in India
>>283374342Sigils basically work when you draw them, think about them and finally burn them, so i guess that burning act could be also used as "Concluding" a ritual. This is a very /x/ manga of how close a lot of things is to real occult stuff. The mangaka indeed did his research.
>>283370599What does this man have against desk lamps?
>>283374665Also that's why I recommend anons here to not read scary stuff if you are down or in a rough path of life, unless you know how to do vanishing rituals or have a strong network. You may never know if the author is unknowingly doing some real stuff for realism, like the mangaka of PTSD Radio
>>283370081The cover ;~;
>>283370603Seconded!
>>283371965I think the concept is a "haunted train / haunted train station" when she got on, everything was normal, when she got off she was in some weird, alternate place.
>>283373063WHAT ARE YOU DOING??!?!?!
>>283373306Clickity clack
>>283373372What a cunt
>>283374474Exorcism is also my second. And it's the number one most memorable for me.
>>283374063No, you don't understand, Sakurai
>>283374412No, no. We are now the little girl.
>>283373855It's gone by the next chapter so it probably wasn't on purpose, but it's a strange mistake to make. The backgrounds are clearly copy pasted most of the time, whether digitally or through more traditional means, so it's hard to explain how it could've happened.
>>283374342Bros... We failed to protect her smile...
>>283375980We also failed to protect his.>>283205785
>>283373358*FMA flashback intensifies*
>>283372063Notice how in the last panel, the doll is crying. She was trying to stop him from going in and dying.
>>283373095Oonga boonga nigga, oonga boonga!
>>283373538She's a pig nowThat's what pigs do, I guess?
>>283373596Bleak
>>283374234For some reason this is just absolutely chilling, honestly the scariest story we've had so far. The idea of it is truly grotesque and unsettling.
>>283374322The panels burning away is such an awesome effect;~; make it out safe, hina!!
>>283374342TT_TT
>>283374368It was so good, but that ending has me so on edge. I really hope that she got out ok
>>283376785The fact that his father never lets up even as things are getting this crazy paints a pretty clear picture of how Yuuma got to this point. There's lots of manga that directly show brutal abuse. But I think that even without showing much directly, showing the regular, inexorable aftermath like this creates an even more potent sense of despair.
>>283374368Thank you again, OP, see you tomorrow!
>>283374342In the end what was all of this? Was it REALLY mom? Why was possession possible with just the burning and not full 100?
>>283377298It's impossible to know if it was really his mom. It would be hard enough to distinguish between the distorted spirit of his mother and an evil spirit pretending to be her even if we got to see more of her. But we see very little of the ghost and virtually none of his mother while she was still alive. The full possession does require the full 100, hence the ending. She was able to possess Hina before this when she used her to return Umakin. But she's clearly gaining power with more stories. She went from stabbing with a pencil to launching an adult man out a window. That plus Hina inhaling the smoke from the picture enabled her to gain near complete control, only requiring the final story to make it permanent.
>>283376973>spoilerIt really is. You wouldn't think such creativity could be brought out within the confines of such a limited panel structure.
>>283373343>Fuck you say to me?
>>283374026kek I know that one, it's kinoTajima-san the Temple-Born (Okosama Basket)
good stories but the ending was lukewarm
im tired of Yuuma's irresponsible ass, #Justice4Kidoalso what did Yuuma use to infect him with?
>>283373343>Here's this duck I was fucking
>>283380084lmfao
>>283380011>Yuuma's irresponsible assHe's an elementary schooler. A few weeks ago he was hiding under his desk pretending to be his stuffed animal while reading a ghost story as part of fulfilling an urban legend. If there's one mistake both Officer Takayanagi and Detective Kido made it was expecting inappropriate levels of maturity from Yuuma.
>>283380968>there's one mistake both Officer Takayanagi and Detective Kido made it was expecting inappropriate levels of maturity from Yuuma. The opposite, they expected him to be a clueless and innocent elementary schooler, while he plotted to kill the detective and hid officer's body.
>>283381011He didn't plot to kill Kido. As someone mentioned further up, Yuuma expected things to work like a shounen manga and that if he cursed him again he'd just whip out another talisman. A vague "this was hard to make" comment from an adult means nothing to a child. I'm sure Yuuma's dad says his work is hard, but he goes and does that every day.Takayanagi had the unreasonable expectation that Yuuma would be able to do the mature thing and tell him the truth about his situation. And Kido made the same assumption about Yuuma being willing to let him intervene in the stories while also leaving him with what he knew to be something incredibly dangerous. They both knew he wasn't clueless and innocent. They both clearly recognized the abuse and that it was something he'd grown accustomed to. And Kido both knew that Yuuma had hid the body and was aware of the growing supernatural danger but was still stubbornly proceeding. They both understood Yuuma's situation and mental state. But only in the way one understands a trivia fact. They did not sufficiently allow their knowledge to inform their decision making. They only treated him like a child in the most surface level ways. They never stopped to think, "What would a child do in this situation, and how can I deal with that?"
>>283381011I don't blame him for hiding the body because he never meant for that guy to get hurt in the first placeHe absolutely killed the second one
>>283381305Again, why didn't he simply ask the detective for help with the bruise curse of Hina? An actual innocent, responsible child (Hina) would stop the things at pen going through his stepmoms hand, or when at worst when it dragged Takayanagi through the window. At that point, you stop thinking what you're doing is merely urban legend.>And Kido both knew that Yuuma had hid the body and was aware of the growing supernatural danger but was still stubbornly proceeding.Because he thought Yuuma was innocent, and that he wanted to be protected from the ritual. When all is said and done, Yuuma's irresponsibility got Kido killed, got Takayanagi killed, and got Hina infected, because for some reason he kept leaving her alone with the ghost-aids paper. He is obviously mentally unwell because of years of abuse.
>>283372159Is his dad raping him for real????
>>283381554some anons said no, but the first panel of the manga is the kid trying to an hero. You normally don't do that just by getting hit by your parents. Also the friday nights are very "quiet" for them to be actual beatings. So even if I hope not, there are several signals sadly
>>283381782Ngl he is pretty cute. I would.
>>283381416>why didn't he simply ask the detective for help with the bruise curse of Hina?He was planning to. He outright says it. And then he realizes that Kido is planning on interrupting the stories. Which was a predictable and avoidable blunder by Kido. When you know the kid saw the curse firsthand, had to hide a body because of it, and is still doing the stories then you should expect that he will object to someone trying to stop them.>you stop thinking what you're doing is merely urban legendYuuma never wanted it to be an urban legend. On the literal first page of the manga he's about to commit suicide. He was never just playing around and got in too deep. This was what he wanted. And he was even resistant to getting help precisely because he didn't want to drag anyone else in to it.>he thought Yuuma was innocent, and that he wanted to be protected from the ritualHe knew he was innocent in the sense that he didn't kill Takayanagi. But he had no reason to think Yuuma wanted the ritual to stop and in fact had evidence to the contrary. And even if he did think Yuuma wanted it to stop, he was still clearly doing it. Which must mean he has some reason to, like being afraid to stop. Which still logically leads to the abused child who doesn't trust adults and goes behind their backs trying something. After Yuuma's first refusal to tell on his parents, the best course of action for Takayanagi would have been to bring Yuuma in under the pretense of the assault on his stepmom and, either through a lie or a direct order, get him to take his unseasonally warm shirt off to get pictures of the bruises he was obviously concealing. And Kido's best course of action after learning what all Yuuma knew was to hold him at the police station while he went and did an exorcism in his room.
>>283381956>had to hide a body because of itHe doesn't think that though, does he? He thinks that someone else is doing the curses and forced Yuuma to hide the body. And he didn't think Yuuma would go as far as to infect him with the talisman AGAIN, and to be honest, who would expect that?>This was what he wanted. And he was even resistant to getting help precisely because he didn't want to drag anyone else in to it.So he doesn't care about the wellbeing of those around him, even though they want to help him? He only "truly" cares about Hina, and he got her possessed twice now. You can't simply build walls around you to keep yourself isolated while people, people that genuinely care about you, get hurt because of your actions. That's irresponsibility.>Which still logically leads to the abused child who doesn't trust adults and goes behind their backs trying something. He doesn't trust anyone though. He also doesn't trust Hina, but also wants to protect her, but also wants to keep her safe by sending her away, but also acts behind her back (like not telling her about his plan with Kido's doll.)>After Yuuma's first refusal to tell on his parents, the best course of action for Takayanagi would have been to bring Yuuma in under the pretense of the assault on his stepmomThat would have been unlawful though, I don't know about law in Japan, but what country would let you drag an elementary schooler to police station when both him and his parents say it wasn't him who attacked her?>And Kido's best course of action after learning what all Yuuma knew was to hold him at the police station while he went and did an exorcism in his room. This is the only mistake of Kido, I agree. Yuuma obviously never leaves his room though, how are you supposed to exorcise the room? Can't do it at night, can't do in the mornings, can't force Yuuma to leave since the talisman would attack him, like how it attacked the stepmom and Takayanagi.
>>283382212>He thinks that someone else is doing the curses and forced Yuuma to hide the body. That's what I'm saying. Yuuma has been forced to hide a body because of the curse but has still chosen to persist. Kido knows that.>he didn't think Yuuma would go as far as to infect himYou don't have to guess the specifics to know that a child desperate enough to lug a corpse to a park will likely do something stupid if you threaten to mess with something they consider important enough to risk their life over. And that this something stupid could be very bad if they are in possession of a cursed object.>So he doesn't care about the wellbeing of those around himI just said he didn't want to drag anyone else in to it. And he was clearly deeply traumatized by both officers' deaths.>You can't simply build walls around you...>He doesn't trust anyone though.Anon, he's like 11 tops. And the victim of pretty horrific abuse. You're doing what both officers did expecting unreasonable maturity and level headedness.>what countryAll of them. There is nowhere where you can't bring a kid in to ask questions after someone broke in and assaulted someone in their home. And in this case it would be even easier because his mom did think he was responsible and wanted to get rid of him.>Yuuma obviously never leaves his roomHe left it multiple times to go to the police station. Which is when and where he should have been held for the exorcism.Yuuma's problems ultimately boil down to him being trapped between wicked adults who gleefully exploit their authority over him to make him suffer and well meaning adults who are reluctant to use their authority to help him.
>>283374368Thank you for posting.
I will protect Hina-chan from anon.
>>283384565But anon, (You) are the one possessing her.
>>283384929And now she's safe with me.I will never let you have her.NEVER.
>>283372394If you're broke and happy it's whatever. If you're broke and sad then that's a problem
>>283384929btw is it normal for horror story manga to have several ones when the MC is the villain? or is more prevalent in this manga because of the relation with the main story?
>>283386616Pretty normal in my experience. Uguisu Sachiko & especially Ochazuke Nori tended to use that a lot, Junji Ito ironically enough shies away from doing so very often (Tomie was almost always the antagonist, not the protagonist).
>>283374342NOO, LORD OITA DO SOMETHING!!
>>283387292I don't think he could do anything about that. The bruise curse maybe. But possession isn't an injury.
>>283384565Dangerously based.
>>283384565> I will protect the caket. The fat kid
>>283373702The granny is this one reminded of the one back in Ch. 22 (>>283247459) in how she understood the grandson's troubles and provided comfort having shared the same burden as him.
