I think it used to be harder but nowadays I can generally just click on an invite link, enter a keyboard smash name and not even properly register as such. Apparently it's called an "unclaimed account" and there's a banner at the top telling me to claim it, but it works for browsing through channels, and probably downloading anything you need.
That said it's likely also adjustable through "server" settings so some invites might not allow you in without a real account, I dunno.

Get the Ugreen mouse off of Aliexpress. It takes a single AA battery. Shipping takes forever, but it's worth it.
Don't get the generic one you will see everywhere that takes 2 AAA batteries. The battery life sucks, and the connectivity is weird. There's a very long delay between inputs and some don't even register. All in all, it's a shit mouse and you should be able to recognize it when you see it.
