That's... a surprisingly strong and well informed argument. Thanks.

Digging into the weeds, I think that if their market cap growth slowed to a more precedented 2x per year
https://epoch.ai/gradient-updates/openai-is-projecting-unprecedented-revenue-growth
and revenue continued to grow at 3x per year
https://epoch.ai/data-insights/openai-revenue
then the 50 year figure would look more like 20 years by 2029.

I admit these are very risky bets, but events like the Industrial Revolution do happen from time to time. It's not impossible that the best placed company is able to pull this off, but you're right that if the bet fails then it will do systemic damage to the economy.

I don't think "AI will fail" because LLM's, diffusion models and transformers have no future purpose in society. I think there is quite likely to be a niche in which OpenAI could see reliable success, especially in relatively low-risk tasks these LLM's are already pretty good at (translation of non-critical documents, automated customer service chat bots, summarization of non-critical documents where it's okay if it sometimes gets things wrong).

OpenAI clearly has a product which does offer some value to people and I have no doubt their product will improve over time and adoption will increase.

My problem with them is that they are behaving like scam artists. They are spending other people's money left and right while promising the world and delivering far less. They are promising the gateway to super intelligence and problem solving capacities that are beyond human comprehension. This could happen (if it does, I have my doubts LLM's will be the ticket), but I don't think we should be betting the farm on it. I don't think Sam Altman or Mark Zuckerberg or whatever that Microsoft Indian CEO is named have acted in ways which warrant our society trusting them to spend trillions of dollars that don't exist to purchase hardware and build out datacenters for a product and customer base that simply doesn't exist yet. It doesn't even have a roadmap towards existing yet.
>>
>>107848660
>It doesn't even have a roadmap towards existing yet.
The roadmap is "we keep making the neural networks bigger until they reach a similar scale to the human brain, and keep improving the training so that it outputs text/image/video/audio/action tokens that are as good as average humans and then as good as the best humans".

Ten years ago, if presented with that roadmap, you could say "there's no way that will work even slightly", and lots of smart people would have agreed with you.

Now, though, the skeptical case is "yes, that has worked reliably for the past 5 years, and yes people have been saying in each of those years that scaling had reached its limit in that year, and yes those people were wrong every time, but I'm sure that *this* year I've correctly identified the point on the scaling curve where the trend suddenly breaks. There's just something about this particular point, coincidentally just before human level multimodal capability, that can't be passed, unlike all the other false barriers in the past".

spending a lot on hardware is relevant, but what are you even talking about here:
>OpenAI has a current market capitalization of over 50 times it's annual revenue. In simple terms, if they were to need to make their current stock liquid via revenue, it would take them over 50 years to do so.
first and least importantly, it's a private company, there is no market capitalization.
they sold Microsoft a 25% stake for $13 billion, and later $6.6 billion worth to other private investors, based on a valuation of $500 billion.
so Microsoft's 25% stake is now "valued" (estimated) to be worth $125 billion, but they spent $13 billion
the 6.6 billion sale was like 1.5% of the company altogether

what does making the shares liquid via revenue mean?

They need to make a 100% flicker free OLED for me to consider buykng an OLED. The automatic brightness dimming also sucks for preserving creators intent. I want stable and predictable brightness even if using HDR.

Are you being obtuse on purpose?
Windows doesn't show you the brightness slider unless you're on a laptop, despite the monitor being perfectly capable of being controlled over DDC/CI, it's a design decision not to expose that control.
KDE doesn't have that problem.

Probably be fine. 5080 uses a little over half a 5090 at 360w peak right? 14900k is 250 peak so you've got around 240w left for everything else which should be fine. If people can run a 5090 with 1000w you'll live.

All these fags making bimbo looking sex dolls into robots.

But why not do what futurama did where its just a plain robot and then they overlay the identity overtop. Now granted we cant do that but with ar or vr goggles why not have a character model superimpose on a blank robot like joi and that hooker?

Maybe add hair and clothing of similar mesh so u can twirl ur girls hair or w.e. but beyond that it doesnt even need eyes and shit. Its all presented in vr goggles.

So question how long until a proto holodexk. Where i can create on demand a virtual 3d space like a white villa on a fruitger aero blue beach surrounded by ocean. With a cute emo blonde girl with eyeliner that then i can snuggle with, dance, pick up, and obv smash her puss.

I am running on shift 6 with Euler beta and the images come out smooth with details enough. Seed variance btw can also influence the details variance in the image by injecting random (true Gaussian) noise between the steps.
z-image noise is quite compressed and has a grainy/flake structure. The sampler has to iron that out.
>>
>>107849302
All loras destroy z-image quality quite strongly. More so if you use more than one. Only way to circumvent that is to run the lora with a really low weight while hoping that enough of that lora still comes through.

>I am running on shift 6 with Euler beta and the images come out smooth with details enough.
That's because shift 6 is pretty big for beta, since base beta without shift already has a slope at the start. So that results in a zitdpo-heavy look, which for zit means jpeg artifacts and blockiness. So there is no free lunch.
But I personally prefer jpegs over zit noise. Zit noise is ruinous and at this point is much the same as openai yellow tint.

Vertical video is the norm now. All video is vertical now. People actively wish horizontal videos were vertical. They yearn for vertical video even when they're not circumstantially limited to it. A kid asked me to hold his phone and film him doing a trick at a skate park last week and when I held it in landscape mode he stopped me, took the phone, changed it to portrait and continued. Ten years ago vertical video was considered digital AIDS. It was to be avoided at all cost. Now it's the golden standard.
