At what point does the syntax become so terrible that its simply not worth using the language no matter the benefits it might have under the hood? Because c# is the most disgusting shit ive ever seen in my life. Why would they call it "c#"? It doesnt seem similar to c in any way. I mean to be honest the only thing ive ever done with it is write hello world then immediately rage deleted .NET off my system because the syntax disgusted me so much. Whats confusing to me is knowing that many people have actually kepy using the lang after that point. Whats the worst syntax youve ever seen?
>>107890231That's what the best Rust developers on the planet, working or cloudflare, thought as well.Don't blindly trust your ugly ass language, just because some government propaganda told you that it is safe. Also grooming yourself into attaching .unwrap() everywhere and considering it a totally normal thing, is how you will crash every single server of your corporation in the near future.>b but i have to .unwrap(), even when it is impossible to ever panicThat just means the language is bad.

My laptop fan started rattling (sounds like either bearing was dying, or something else mechanical was fucking up), and after a couple of weeks of this today it sounded like it was going to explode - a LOUD buzzing noise as if it was physically scraping against some physical obstruction at high speed. But what happened next is that somehow it started running at max(?) speed and it runs smoothly. As if there's some kind of vibration resonance mode that only happens at low/medium fan speeds but is completely absent at max speed. Not only that, but since that the loud grating episode happened earlier today, the fan has been running on two modes: completely off or max speed. Consequently it's been completely smooth with no rattling or buzzing or vibrating, except that it's audibly blowing like 80-90% of the time since it can only turn off for so long before kicking back up to max again. All of this has left me extremely confused. After two weeks of buzzing intermittently, it sounds like it's going to rip itself apart but somehow fixes itself by always running at max speed. Is it something in the firmware detecting vibrations and somehow adapting to find a frequency that doesn't resonate? I've never heard of this being a feature. It's a modern thinkpad (T14), I'm running gentoo and no particular fan control programs (not even thinkfan - I'm not sure it's even compatible with modernt thinkpads) so it can's possibly be something in the OS (unless the kernel has fan vibration support), so I'm absolutely mystified. Does the vibration resonance theory even make sense? It seems sketchy to me but I don't know what else could possibly explain that somehow going to max speed fixes the rattling problem, when I thought the bearing was going to die for the past few weeks.
>>107891330you're overthinking it. It's probably something loose that got realigned somehow (not likely but not completely impossible either)No way to tell unless you open it up and check
How well with a WD Black HDD deal with just being used for cold storage? Can it stay on all the time. Because of the current environment I'm starting to pull out all my unused drives and put somethings on them for cold storage.Still thinking of buying a drive before things get worse. What's the best drive that can handle being power on and off consistently?

People always make fun of air coolers. Is it because it is deprecated technology?
>>107890953then empty out your coolant to go full air
>>107871464The changes in fan speed are less abrupt coupled with higher cooling efficiency. But you could argue that’s offset by the increased power draw and pump noise.

What would happen if the big tech companies came together and decided to end support for anyone using an adblocker? Banning people for days or weeks at a time for instance.
>>107880690There's absolutely no way I would use internet without an adblocking.
It's exactly the same as going ex directory in the phone system, junk mail in the post and messaging systems that prevent people spamming, just like here on 4chan too.If you give these advertising cunts an inch, they'll take a mile. Any company that endorses that kind of behaviour needs to face consequences. Advertising needs to be vetted. And as always, people need to protect themselves.
>>107889884I actually disagree with this. Advertising is extremely important to spreading awareness of products. The real problem is that most ads suck now and most products suck now. The ads are for things you either would not or should not ever buy.

>>107874951Where does this retarded hubris come from? American tech would take a massive hit without selling it to Europe, meanwhile Europe would have to use a mildly less convenient app for a few months till a European company starts improving it. All the leverage is in Europe's hands.

Obvious bait is bait, but for the lurkers…Get a noob distro. Ubuntu, Mint, Bazzite. Nobara is fairly recent but focused on out-of-the-box, point-and-click usability for gaming and content creation, so having to use the command line is at the very least infrequent. Distros like these let you ease into the way Linux works, but you should absolutely be getting comfortable with the CLI. It feels archaic at first, but with time it becomes the most expedient way to do certain things. Stick with Linux, it’s worth it. Source: am noob.

I recently had a funny interaction, i took a piss at a starbucks and didn't buy anything. There's two indians wearing jackets and sandals in 55 degree weather drinking coffee outside using ridiculously oversized android tablets, speaking some impenetrable hindu gobbedygook with "14 inch" "amoled" "galaxy" peppered through. They see this meme phone in my hand and they're too polite or illiterate to say anything to me about it but it's obvious that they're gawking at it. Not in a jealous way, in a mocking way.But they're indians holding comically oversized tablets outside of a starbucks. It dawned on me that their society is built on caste based elitism so they think that holding an even bigger and more expensive ipad makes them look successful. But they just look like stereotypical third worlders, some white guy with a cheap blackberry clone completely shatters that illusionThank you for coming to my ted talk.
>>107885928This would explain why they're practically impossible to find second hand.
