/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

It seems is becoming a global mandate of the global south and poor nations to move away from windows spyware in windows to their own linux native solutions.

Funny how forcing poor nations to move to expensive computers actually forces the global south to linux.

What is the most retard proof linux?
>>
>>107892802
I'm not surprised. I teach at highschool and Microshit gives us nothing but headache with each new version.
>someone clueless updates Win7 to Win10 and suddenly all older PCs with 4GB RAM have trouble running shit while school has no money to get dozens of new computers on a whim
>aggressive license checks popping up watermarks just before exams so you have to connect machine to the internet to let it activate which leads to downloading updates and spreading them through LAN like virus
>redesigning options over and over again so you have to look for specific shit each year
>redesigning context menus to some bullshit and suddenly more retarded students can't find 7zip to unpack exam files
>inconveniences like setting static IP to create network for exam purposes requires typing password 2 fucking times for some reason instead of 1 if you do it from user account, because you do all configuration from user account used during exam as bunch of applications try to install themselves for current user, not globally
>recently trying to remove all options to create local account without online microshit account when you just need to make PC for exam purposes that will be used for like 3 days without internet and cloned to couple dozens other computers to wipe them inbetween each session
I suggested school to switch to linux, but it's hopeless as barely any teacher would be able to do much besides basic stuff on them, exams require writing console, GUI and mobile apps and linux seems to lack as retard-proof IDE as Visual Studio where you can just drag and drop controls onto window if you're retard who couldn't comprehend XAML, which could tank exam scores for a year or two. And we'd have to take into consideration whether guys who have to grade those programs students write will be even able to run them, which I doubt because public sector is inefficient jew daycare for mediocre people most of the time.

Honestly don't think anyone noticed at all.
Everything is done through webapps now so OS choice doesn't matter anymore, so might as well pick the most performant one.

There's a forum section on RED just for scripts for automating it, although you usually need 2 or 3 for your workflow: i.e. orpheusdl for downloading, 1 for cleaning up tags / padding, then smokedsalmon for uploading or redcurry if couriering between trackers.

i dont post usually, i rarely even browse /g/, but i did today and found out that you have some /ptg/ thread here in which you shill private trackers.
im not an oldfag or any retard of that type, so i despise those private tracker elitarists. also imagine using torrents in 2026?

- i breached a single private torrent tracker so far, didnt get the whole db or root access, only admin api keys (UNIT3D tracker security is kinda good, i cant do much with an admin account).
this allows me to leech all torrents freely, or upload malicious ones from any account i want. though i haven't done anything with this dump for quite some time already.
dont tell me those things are useless, please. i want to justify my wasted time on trying to hack into that tracker.

- i had an idea to reseed contents of that tracker to some public ones, but that would just be a waste of bandwidth and money.
one of PTs goals is to provide more bandwidth, and they do that by reseeding public torrents; PTs are built to deter leechers and freeloaders, and no one wants those people.

- [1] another thing you can find on trackers is some very niche content. this is something we would want to distribute, but how?
yeah, fmhy exists, iptv piracy industry is big too, no one has to use torrents anymore for watching their love island joyslop. but there is probably some stuff which can't be accessed that easily.
how do you even identify these? maybe build something like BTdig which would have access to thousands of PTs, from which people could request content to be downloaded, and then reseeded.

>>
>>107893642
>Imagine taking something someone provided for free, locking it up behind a gay social network then shaming others because they won't suck your cock on IRC for access.
I don't run private trackers or make the rules. If you have a problem with them make something better. If you were actually on them you would understand that a lot of the content is sourced by private tracker users. I know you think everything is scene but if you actually know anything about the scene at all you'll know you can't dupe old releases. The best you can do is internal them. Nobody on private trackers wants the old 360p xvids or 9 pass CCE DVDRs. That shit is obsolete. But people still want to watch old shows and movies.
>>
>>107893855
The scene is alive. It's a sad shell of it's former self but there are still a few groups around that I respect.
