US moves to bar CHIPS Act recipients from purchasing Chinese chipmaking equipment for 10 years in November.
US also tighten their export control, causing CXMT expansion to cut short.
Both CXMT and YMTC might be fully banned soon, they are still allowed to work with other companies and supply their memory for chinese market for now, this could soon change.

>Wouldn't that solve a lot of problems?
Some. But the tantrums are already problematic. This isn't going to stop them any.

Then there's an issue with long standing agreements... Some have come to depend on a sense of 'normality' and are eager to maintain this...

It's a complex and multifaceted problem. With many additional variables uncovered. Start throwing alphabet soups and their activities into the mix: Huawei bad! chink spy! turns out the issue there was it didn't have backdoors for Akamai to exploit. Result: China have free reign on the exploit they refused to install in their hardware, which 'five eyes' insisted be used near everywhere, whilst Akamai get kicked out of china entirely, making the only black spots to them china and N. Korea...

He and the handmade dude are not wrong about software getting worse in some ways but they are so obviously wrong about the reasons.

They will go into fine detail about some very specific optimization technique or whatever but it does not fucking matter. Software is written by the lowest bidder (sirs) and nobody gives a shit anymore. The reason is not technical, it is economical.

There are, and always will be, tasks resistant to automation.
They steadily decrease, tho. And will do until you can measure workers globally on one hand without danger of running low on fingers.
>>
>>107569106
Efficient for what? "The economy" isn't some magical machine that makes people rich, it's just what we call it when someone pays money to someone else to provide a service or product. Indubitably there are loopholes that a few people abuse to get immensely rich, but nobody controls "the economy".

Why are you using a phone instead of paying some kid to run to whoever you want a message sent to? Why are you using a lamp instead of paying someone to sell you wood to light a fire to see with? Why are you reading 4chan on your computer instead of going out in the square and paying people to tell you the latest news? THAT's the economy, and that's how the economy works. Nobody is making a dedicated effort to replace one job or another, people simply decide that a piece of technology is more convenient than having another person provide the equivalent service

Nobody can just turn off the economy like it's a faucet. Sam Altman declares that AI has made everyone obsolete? Cool, but when I go to the supermarket tomorrow to stock up on groceries it won't be an AI stocking the shelves and ringing my purchases. When I go to the doctor I won't be telling chatgpt my exam results and asking it to prescribe medicine. When my car breaks down no robot is going to come and repair it for me. Real jobs provide real services that real people need, regardless of what some well-dressed billionaire said in a press release

do you even comprehend what you read? building datacenters != "AI". the datacenters themselves are skewing the numbers.
>>
>>107567122
First, let's recognize the lie: productivity has grown in 2025. From this, we can deduce that the person quoted is an imbecile OR a liar OR both. Most likely a grifter, aiming for people with AIDS.
Second, the idea that GDP is the only metric, or THE metric by which we should measure things is absolutely braindead. Third, productivity can both rise AND the production level can stay the same - being more efficient at something means that you can spend less time on it.
So this leaves the actual implied argument being made, namely "AI BAD", and it is one of those awkward moments where you have to choose. Is it:
>AIEEEEEEEEE THE AYE EYE IS GONNA KILL US ALL DESTROY THE PLANET I'LL GET FIRED NOOOOO HELP ME ALTMAAAAANNNN
or is it
>psh, AI, so much money, no results, right? ;^)
You can't have both, yet the constant hysterical discourse about AI revolves around having both.
I want to say "you knew all this already and only made this post for attention", but chances are you actually believe it, and you are unironically crossposting dumb Xitter nonsense, in which case I implore you to stay on Xitter.

>Some manufacturing runs were contaminated and are prone to chemical defects
This is the real answer. It doesn't matter how you "store" the discs. They're all polycarbonate for fuck sakes. They are already quite resilient. The defects of the media can be subtle however.
>>
>>107568236
>>107567615
>>107567462
Not just mistakes, but sometimes its intentional. a lot of asian producers tried skipping out on material costs during various production cycles over the years and thats why you need this kind of descripancy. in principle, cds can last practically forever. but you will never know if the disks you own are from a bad batch some chinese jew cooked up to save some money for his zaibatsu. Printed books suffer from the same problem. Did they use the correct ink and paper or did you get the version of the book printed by thirdies in a sweat shop the one year they sent the order there.

I have books made from real squid ink that were printed hundreds of years ago, they are in perfect condition. Meanwhile, some cheap (actually, was rather expensive) books that were printed less than 10 years ago in china already have pages with fadded text.

This is the problem with global industry. We know how to do things right, but when you play telephone tag with your technology and outsource to thirdies, sometimes they fuck up. Even worse, sometimes they do it on purpose. You wont know until theres a failure and then of course its too late.

the answer he wanted to hear was "the user messed with the host file", to which i replied, "well, why does the user have access to the host file in the first place?"

I replied that I decided to just stay at my current job and she started sperging out, calling my phone 50 times in a row. Then she got her manager to call me from a different number and I could hear her freaking out and sobbing in the background. Was totally insane.

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. You could use a /8 for your home network if you want. It would not hurt anything other than remembering where shit was. You won't get broadcast spam, you won't get crippling lag, or any other problems. You just won't have any segregation since it's just one big pot. The only reason we subnet on local networks is to have control over what talks to what. This is basic networking. We are not using token ring anymore.

Not A /8, multiple /8 - there are like a dozen not publicly used ones assigned to the US DoD
That way you get different networks, enough room for virtually anything in them and feeling like a special snowflake because you single printer lives at 55.5.5.5 or some shit.
