>Corporations are people, my friend.
Companies, especially large ones, are made up of tons of factions pushing in different directions, and managers each trying to maximize their own benefit, even when it is of negative value to the company. Internal metrics are often very bad at identifying who is actually adding positive value to the company and who is harming it.
Susan the product manager doesn't gave a shit if the product she manages undermines the message some other department on the other side of the org chart is trying to associate with the company. She cares about hitting the targets set by her manager or even manipulating the targets themselves to be aligned with what she's doing. The notion of large corporations being strict hierarchies with clear goals handed down cleanly between levels has a theoretical, almost romantic, appeal to it, but it doesn't reflect the reality of how large entities actually operate.

It's one main symptom of late stage capitalism
Having a honest, sustainable, steady business that stays afloat forever but doesn't grow (like some businesses that have existed for several hundred years and multiple generations in Europe and Japan), isn't enough.
Green line must always go up forever, which obviously isn't sustainable. And companies have been running out of ideas, especially since I believe that tech in general is basically solved and has truly peaked (especially in the consumer space). It's one of the main reasons why creating retarded anti-consumer shit and doubling down on it is becoming more common, while all megacorps keep putting a smug face about it, they're in despair.
Especially because when the AI bubble pops, it could be an event that will finally make the world in general realize this isn't sustainable and cause the whole stock market in general to crash.

Let's discuss this new piece of technology. Anyone planning to get one?

Check evil-collection. You might also want to grab evil-leader. You might need to do some configurations to change whole emacs environment to fit vim keybinds still too. Most painless way would be just using doom emacs because it is preconfigured for it. I wish there was something similar for helix emulation, but so far 2 packages I tried for helix emulation felt too janky.

That was me in the navy at that age and I just played it by ear and kept saying "Yes" to anything that would make me money, until one day a convo with a particularly salty and similarly over-it senior went
>Your contract renewal thing is up, do you want to re-up?
>Yeah, why not.
>Why not? Do you really want to? Does anyone want to? There's a 'why not'
>Now that you ask, actually, no. Fuck this. I've had enough.

Luckily I had a lot of savings and went two or three years or something without a job just fine, and again, I played it by ear. I'd apply to stuff on larks and only occasional panic and eventually
>yas hallo anon this is recruiteR from big defence company would you like interview
>Sure, why not.
>go to interview
>it's a shambles
>but it's about aircraft so I "break down" and send a casual "So am I in the running or not?" e-mail later
>they say yes and to hold fast
>random other email out of the blue like a month later saying "OK you're fucking hired, go get your fingerprints and do all this paperwork, here's a bunch of numbers and names to drop if any of the local cops, RCMP, CSIS, or their various subcontractors ask why you're asking, also sign this contract if and when you are done all the other shit but please read it first"

Alternatively, if you want to make up a real lesson, I guess it's to maintain a good position without staying strictly on the defensive.
>>My skills have stagnated since working here 4 years. Am feeling behind the curve.
It's not that you've stagnated; it's that things are simply working well.

Even in the navy, I got my reputation by touching stuff and doing things in confidence. There are times to just quietly do the paperwork, and there are times to start poking behind panels. Poking behind the panels and doing some "Non-Destructive Testing" when everything is stable and working is what equips you to take an iron and crimper to stuff when it fails and become the hero.

Hiding in the tall grass is all well and good when stuff is going wrong and the world is loud and bright, but once the tide of battle has turned even slightly in your favour, it's time to press the attack. It's all set up for you. Time to grow up.

>"By the way, anon, it's best practice to just make a ticket for this kind of thing and then assign it to yourself. Keeps your numbers up, and if it needs escalation like this, everyone knows about it."

>"Well, I don't have access to re-assign tickets even if I made them, so I'll just actually fix stuff instead."

Because a lot of us either work in jobs that had sudden influxes of Indians or live in places that have had sudden influxes of Indians. If Indians only were in their home country and that one South American country people would largely be indifferent. Also doesn't help that tourists to India either get raped or get food poisoning, so the spiritual Hindu enjoying types don't even have a reason to like India anymore. why bother being a game dev in 2026? there's so many games already, can (you) do something so special, that it could be worthwhile amongst the giant see of games already out and in development? And I'm not talking about if you could make a living out of it, or not, but if you could make something that's truly artistically special.

ok then just lie down and let yourself die then.

the core element of a good game is a good gameplay loop btw
just look at shit like plants and zombies
>>
>>107811034
why should I have to? would you go up to the guy doing woodworking in his garage and ask him how HIS coffee table was artistically special and stands out in a sea of great coffee tables? It doesn’t have to.
I can just make the game I want for me. get out of my garage.
>>
>>107811073
I had fulltime game devs in mind writing OP. Also the woodworking comparison doesn't work out, because coffee tables are (also) utility commodities, and not purely artistic, like games.
>>
>>107811166
when people want a coffee table as an untility object they buy from ikea for 20 bucks
not from a woodworker for 2000

Some game genres, like deck builders, have ravenous fan bases that will endlessly look for new titles once they’ve figured out their current one. They don’t need it to be super original, they want a variation on the mechanics they know that will challenge them.

Other genres, like horror, are more artistic. Your mechanics are less important, and it’s more about presentation and the story to tell. We’ve not yet come even close to running out of stories to tell.

Other games like Factorio, RimWorld or Dwarf Fortress come to rule entire genres, typically due to fantastic modding support, well designed simulation elements, and a lot of freedom for players to create their own challenges. These are a sort of escapism/puzzle for autist types.

There’s also more casual puzzler type games like Mini Metro or the Zachtronics games. You can only figure out a puzzle once, so people who enjoy this experience go looking for more games similar, that are new.

If anything, I think the game market OP most succinctly captures is AAA. They’re neither innovative in story, nor in mechanics.

In short, the game market is only about 30 years old. Thinking we’ve already exhausted the possibilities is a bit silly. For a game to be remembered and considered special, it has to do one of these things, ideally multiple:
- Innovate on, create or synthesize fun mechanics
- Possess impactful and unique visuals
- Tell a story that is either compelling and well written, or is told in a unique and compelling way.
