The basis of my setup is:
>netinst Debian with only Base System + Standard System Utilities selected in tasksel
then:
>apt install ufw menu xorg openbox firefox-esr
That's it for booting into a working X wm with a browser.

You can look into the Debian Base Install and Standard System Utilities and see that it's extremely sparse, yet enough to have basic functionality to the degree needed for someone who's not knowledgeable enough for Gentoo or Linux From Scratch.

I install nothing but mc for when a visual file manager is "needed", and feh for viewing images.

I know this general is focused on the unemployed in tech, but the overall unemployment rate, job market and economy across the globe is pretty dire. When will things get to the point where people are simply fed up and start making noise? Gen Z protests are happening lately, when will this become a global phenomenon that makes an actual impact?

when material conditions become unbearable for the majority, think major inflation, bank runs, food shortages, conscription for a war you don't agree with. Most likely all of these happening at once for real change to begin. Until then it's just a wave of discontent and apathy

Windows caches stuff into free RAM to make things faster and that's not listed under the processes tab because it's not any specific process using that memory
Check your memory in the performance tab, you should see how much is being used for cache/standby
Windows does this because there is literally no reason not to if it makes things faster. It will free that RAM if you need it for other stuff

I decided to "upgrade" my laptop's WiFi to a MT7925 only to find out later that it doesn't really work on Windows 10.
Newer versions of the Presonus software for my audio interface are also not supported and so on.

It's becoming a bit of an annoyance to keep using 10 LTSC, so I'm considering 11 LTSC, is it really that bad?
Does ExplorerPatcher work on it, can you get the old taskbar (and with it support for 7 Taskbar Tweaker)?
Any worthwhile improvements to high-DPI/multi monitor setups and battery life?

The best and brightest C programmers agree: Rust belongs in the Linux kernel!
https://lwn.net/Articles/1049831/
This board tries it's best to portray C and Rust as polar opposites, but in the end they serve the same purpose. Good C programmers have always respected Rust programmers and vice versa. Only the fizzbuzzers and jeets want a language war between C and Rust.

Why do they want it? Because if you split the systems language ecosystem, there will be less competition to their electron/react garbage (see Windows 11 start menu)
Everyone except Indians agrees that anything written in Rust or C is much better than electron garbage. That is why it is important to be friends and allies, not enemies

I am still pissed that temperature control in mods has become so uncommon. Some years ago every single mod had it, now only the fuckhueg dual battery DNA 200 mods seem to have it, plus a couple shitty smaller ones. TC as a whole is dying, my local shop doesn't carry Ti wire anymore, I bought the last spool they had at the back of a shelf, it's all podshit now.
>>
>>107540846
>They don't
Sure they do.

Especially from the Dr. Dabber Switch 2 I have since it's using an induction heating coil and a sapphire insert, no atomizer and no directly applying concentrate to a coil.

>>107541051
>Sure they do.
>have since it's using an induction heating coil and a sapphire insert
So. differing only in coil construction.
It's getting the coil hot via induction instead of conduction. If the goal wasn't heat, that might be more efficient. But the crux is, getting wire hot vs getting wire hot. It's the same.
You've a saphire insert? I've ceramic. The material may differ, the principles are precisely the same. It gets hot.

>no atomizer
then what produces the vapour? they've all got atomisers.

The smok style tanks hit some shitty cotton stuff first to soak up, then an element. The 510 carts I ship in don't have any cotton it's more like a ceramic sponge (solid, porus) that wicks it up, one system fills central and gravity feeds into a ceramic cup, with the heating element printed into the underside like a PCB... the kandypen pearl kinda like a ceramic pencil sharpener...

As a somewhat broke college student, should I buy a Google Pixel 9a for $350 and hope it lasts three years, or buy a new budget Motorola for $130 every year instead?

what the fuck are you even on about? I have a 6 yo Xiaomi 9 and it still fucking works

dude just buy one that has enough space, both ram and disk, and that is ALL

The only reason to buy a Pixel would be camera which is better than on cheaper phones, but since one of your options is being a new cheap phone every year

Eh i kinda got it to work, i created the slimmer custom runlevel that i named reaper, but i have to use sudo to start it. Unfortunately i cant add to the script executed by the .desktop file cuz it needs sudo permissions.
Its not terrible tho, just means i have to open a terminal and run
sudo openrc reaper
to start it up. Wish i could make it automatic, but whatever

Thanks for chiming in braj, appreciate it!

Anyone here know how to get a Japanese RPG maker game to run on Arch based distros?
I got the itch to replay Mogeko Castle and threw wine at RPG Maker Ace and the .exe. The game opens but I get the error that the game can't find an audio file with a japanese name.
I figured it's because of the characters, but how can I do the equivalent of japanese locale or unzipping with japanese characters on arch?
