>>107540280>How are the users going to interact with your app?there are 15-20 stations around the facility - each station is a pc with a 21" touch screen. the app is only used on those machines.app runs in docker, stations just open the network adress and we're good to go.>>107540280>like a nightmare scenarioyes and no. I mean we/they're a chocolate factory that hired an external company to build something for them - so of course nobody needed access to deep level stuff; they'd just call the devs and ask them to change this and that and to report bugs.I'm actually not on a time schedule. the current app -is- still working fine. it's outdated, but it's working. of course I'm not going out of my way to take my time and do nothing, but it's not like they're breathing down my neck. at all. it's really chill and they're all very nice people.I just get the feeling that they didn't really think this project through before they hired me. or rather, they didn't know the technical requirements for this to work. as I said, my boss is a network admin and used to working with end-user software. we're also the same age and if I explain to him how something works and what I need to make things work he listens and acknowledges the problems and doesn't want things to just magically work.
>>107540280>How fast do they want to see the changes they make reflected on your app? Say they add a new recipe or take out an ingredient, how much time do you have before that change has to be in your app? In your role as a cms user, do you have a way to access the entire database? can you somehow backup the data, store it all in a file, dump the data somehow?if you're talking about manual export and import - no, it should work automatically. the production team turns off an ingredient or shape, topping, whatever if it's out of stock within the cms. so once it's out, users shouldn't be able to use those ingredients in the terminal. of course they turn off availability shorty before it's actually gone, so that orders that are still withing the loop are still valid.I don't know the exact sync schedule, but it should be within minutes.
>>107540686but yes, I am able to do exports from that database.I already thought about writing a script that uses a db backup and imports it into my db. but that's just such a sloppy ass solution lol
>>107540739got it. The only thing I can think of is that you have to convince them to give you a connection to the database where you have at least read privileges. Not sure if your app would need to write anything into the db, so far all you do is read off of them. If they're willing to, they could even set up a system like a master-slave where the slave just replicates the master, and they give you read access to the slave, so that you have no access at all to the main db.Another (more complicated) solution would be for them to set some triggers (on update and create) so that when specific items are updated (stock=0 or however they deactivate them) the trigger sends you a message. Depending on their setup, this could be really easy (for example, on AWS DynamoDB it's super simple to set up triggers). But given they're still using PHP, something tells me their stack is pretty old, so your options might be limited.

16:10 is the golden ratio. literally perfection.
>>107541410Wide aspect ratios are better for tvs and desktop monitors, but laptops in squarer form factors are comfier. Widescreen laptops feel clunky and have a bunch of unnecessary space around the keyboard.
>turning one instruction into twelveSo this is the power of RISC
>>107540687risc lowers the complexity at the circuitry level but raises it at the compiler level. Modern "risc" cpus also have a lot of instructions or are surrounded which a bunch of coprocessors. Smartphones, for example, have co-processors for photography, video recording, video decoding, audio processing, AI, rendering (gpu), encryption, ... instead of having a large instruction set, you have multiple ones to handle. From an user (programmer) perspective: cisc >>> risc.

You don't support AI because you are a failed "artist".I don't support AI because they are making RAM and GPU (eventually all other parts as collateral damage too) astronomically more expensive. We are not the same.

>>107525250
>>107541080Imagine paying for the controller and then also for the stick swap. Just buy a Flydigi or Gulikit controller outright.

>>107541449Fair enough then I guess. Still probably overpriced.

Anyone here know how to get a Japanese RPG maker game to run on Arch based distros? I got the itch to replay Mogeko Castle and threw wine at RPG Maker Ace and the .exe. The game opens but I get the error that the game can't find an audio file with a japanese name.I figured it's because of the characters, but how can I do the equivalent of japanese locale or unzipping with japanese characters on arch?

Does using more screens really increase productivity? My boss is always baffled when I tell him I just get my work done on a laptop with one screen as he thinks two monitors are "necessary" for our work. Yet I'm a top performer so it's obviously not true.I think you can just get used to using one screen at develop your workflow that way by switching tabs/context as you need. I briefly had a two screen setup at home and found I rarely used the second monitor unless I forced myself. Thoughts?
>>107539890More like how mossad used to.Now it's all AI chatbots because actual employees are too expensive. The jews are outjewing other jews.
>>107539082>I briefly had a two screen setup at home and found I rarely used the second monitor>brieflyYou didn't use it long enough to integrate it into your workflow.I didn't use my second monitor much either at first, but gradually started moving things over to it that I would otherwise flip between. Basically anything I wanted to monitor (chat program, status, ongoing processing, etc), or reference material/documentation, now lives on my second monitor. Now using a single screen feels confining. Obviously a single screen can still be productive, but having two opens up extra options.
>>107539164Now THIS is pod racing.
2 is optimalGame+MovieCode+Documentation
>>107539082I’m dumber than my boss who uses just a small laptop for everything Usually I’m using just one screen, but sometimes I’ll very much like having stuff on my second screenVery rarely I want documentation on my iPad getting used as a third screen so I can just look and not have to click on stuff or command-tabI refuse to be shamed into using less screen real estate on the grounds that I’m a midwitI’m mid and if I can be high mid by not having to click on things, fine
