>instead of just counting if two of the three county commissioners have voted to appprove, he created the most convoluted calculation system I have ever seen

the only story of note of my time in school was when one of the teachers didn't know how to open an readme.md file i sent to him. seeing that level of incompetence from a teacher kinda wrecked my worldview, since i had known nothing but really smart teachers in other places of learning. but in a way it was helpful since i realized that my degree was going to be worthless, and that pushed me to study on my own and ignore the teachers for the most part

#define __NR_mmap                9

this is probably my favorite syscall of all time. we could spend weeks discussing this alone. it is extremely powerful, versatile, and widely used. not to mention, it's one of the (somewhat) rare six argument syscalls. some potential points of discussion:
> the addr argument, and its use without flags, with MAP_FIXED, and with MAP_FIXED_NOREPLACE
> file-backed vs anonymous mappings
> the concept of pages, page sizing, and alignment
> guard pages and PROT_NONE
> the actual meaning of SIGSEGV, and how there's more to segfaults than simply process crashes
> core dumps and stack traces
> other related signals, such as SIGBUS
> MAP_GROWSDOWN and the stack
> the use of mmap (as opposed to brk) for allocation via the *alloc family
> manual memory management vs an allocation scheme

i remember there was one mmap schizo around here sometimes, he might show up later if he's not on vacation
>>
>>107843002
these days, probably pretty rare. it's uncommon for developers to have to use mmap manually in production software, so in most cases they never even have the opportunity to fuck it up. for those who do decide to use it, they ideally know what they're doing and so are a bit more careful about it
a lot of JIT compilers face these and similar issues, though, if that's something that interests you

A few days ago, something really interesting happened: For the first time, an AI generated a mathematical proof that was not yet known: https://www.erdosproblems.com/728

In most cases where this has happened, it was later discovered that a solution already existed in the literature, but this problem had been formulated incorrectly and was only corrected a few months ago, which means there was no prior literature on it.

Sometimes of you say that AI will be limited by "not being able to create new things," but I think this case shows that it's not quite like that at all, and that most people are still underestimating AIs.

Here in France if you want to use a calculator for some exams you need to turn on exam mode so you can't cheat, as people would write down their lesson in it
It's basically a mode where the ram is set back to default and you can't modify anything
>>
>>107842672
You can't, to exit it you have to plug it in a pc then launch their program to return to normal, or plug it to another calculator
There's a red light blinking when you're in exam mode so you can tell when it's on or not
>>
>>107842872
Well it's a way to prevent cheating, since people would just write down everything in their calculator
I'd rather have this than no calculator at all like we had for our accounting exams

The Ti-30xPro

It's the sweetspot of having a lot of functionality without just being a graphing calculator, and is basically allowed for anything while still offering a lot of functionality.
I think it got some more revisions, but been rocking one for over a decade and it's served any general purpose, if I really needed something more advanced I had better tools for that than a pocket calculator.

At least not available for civilian money. This is one of the few cases where I can buy the hypothesis that DOD and code breakers have undisclosed hardware. The prospect of cracking keys at 4 THz or real time full bandwidth ESM and ECM analysis is sure of getting attention.

Easiest way to tell the 14.1" and 15" apart from pictures is the width of the keyboard bezels.

You can swap the 14.1" and 15" motherboards between shells if you need to - the boards themselves are identical, there's a little extension daughterboard that lets the ports reach in the 15".

The real prizes are the IPS/AFFS panels in the 15" models. They look gorgeous.
