It's absolute dogshit and just a bad imitation of gnome. It doesn't bring anything new to the table except "it's not gnome". KDE is still better (for better or worse)
>>
>>107629162
if you're a cockgobbler you like gnome
if you were fine with winblows but are sick of microsoft's shit you like kde
if you care about 1GB of ram you cope with xfce

What’s up with all the anti Windows 7 posts lately?

I switched from Gentoo to Windows 7 Platinum a few weeks ago, and I haven’t had a single issue so far.

It’s noticeably faster than any DE or WM I’ve tried, which honestly surprised me, especially considering I’m running an RTX 5090.

At first, I was worried about security and getting hacked. But it turns out I can install a fully up to date browser and a modern firewall, so that’s no longer a concern.

It’s also much easier to use overall. The UI is consistent, clear, and easy to read. Because of that, I installed it on my girlfriend’s laptop and my parents’ PC as well and they’re really happy with it.

I genuinely don’t understand why some people are so strongly opposed to it, especially considering the massive influx of AI generated packages Linux distros have seen in recent months.

Someone also put a backdoor into xz (which allowed rce over SSH). It was only discovered through SHEER luck.
Also this prompts the question of why the fuck the SSH server is loading a compression library to begin with. Big spaghetti mess of jeet code which depends on a billion other libraries because the Linux OS has no libraries built-in like Windows does.
>>
>>107630142
Linux is literally a server operating system. I don't say this as a jab or anything, it was written from ground up with nothing but a shell in mind. I seriously think all those programmers are better off building a new *desktop* OS from scratch.

This is pretty much it for alternative desktops unless I'm missing something truly obscure
https://reactos.org/
https://www.haiku-os.org/
Both are perpetually unfinished unfortunately

People need to understand that beating a server into being a frankenstein desktop just does not work

I recently got a gaming latop that came with windows 11, and am thinking about downgrading to 10 using a boot I got from here a while ago. If it asks for a license is it better to use one that I got from the laptop or to use the script in this thread?

I did all the typical stuff to get rid of copilot other debloat stuff by looking through the settings and shutup10++, but I don't like the idea of having to keep checking up on it, and apparently windows 10 runs better, but then again I didn't see any drivers on HP for windows 10 for this thing: https://www.microcenter.com/product/698806/hp-omen-max-16-ak0003nr-16-gaming-laptop-computer-shadow-black-aluminum

Is HDR even worth it? Most movies weren't HDR for a long time
>>
>>107630103
Well Im not using my oled monitor in sdr
the "worth it" is yes, but most content is sdr and there its less worth it

you have to use nvidia app rtx hdr to make sdr video content slightly better on a hdr monitor, like youtube
non-hdr games can look shit because of color banding. I had issues with Expedition 33. There you have options like nvidia app hdr filter which makes the game playable at least.

If you already get a good monitor, you'll have it anyways.
There's real HDR content, many games support HDR natively too, for the rest there's things like AutoHDR (sucks), RTX HDR (good), HDR wrappers (good too).

Not a huge fan of the Micro PC 2. Has like 2-3 hour battery life under load and could never get used to the keyboard because how stiff the keys feel. Would've been nice to have a touch scroll wheel on the trackpad instead of awkward two finger scroll. However I do love the form factor which is why I got a Pocket 4 in the mail, having a keyboard I can actually touch type would be a huge improvement and it should fit perfectly in my sling bag.

Among the general populace or among nerds?

In both instances, nobody wants to carry round a fucking tiny laptop over a smartphone.

Tiny laptops I'm sure have some practical use in a niche set. And even then 99% would carry them in tandem to a smartphone.

I keep telling myself faggot you are a grown man, earning big salary, be a man and not a kid anymore and buy a good respectable automatic watch

Yeah it do be like that. Just buy 2-bit MLC SSDs if you can't "recharge" your 3-bit SSD once a year, I heard they're supposed to protect data for 10-20 years powered off. If you NEED your chinese cartoons to survive 100 years then neither tape drives nor 2-bit MLC SSDs will suffice, only m-discs can give that kind of data retention.
>>
A good tape drive will last you a lifetime and it will pay for itself if you´re storing 500Tb or more of data
>>
>>107629838
"Lifetime" actually means 10-20 years depending on climate control. After that it rots and your data is kaput. Which makes 2-bit MLCs better since you can "recharge" them.
>>
>>107629743
Is there any way to rent or use a communal tape drive?
