What are some things Windows does better that Linux should emulate/adopt?

They should make a linux distro that perfectly copies windows 11 and looks exactly like it and also runs all windows programs normally but without all the bad stuff and also with some cool things linux can do.

I know, if i want to copy to a protected folder as a sudo user it should prompt for a password, but instead it just does nothing. Then there are stupid workarounds like "open the tab in admin mode" if it even exists

I hate devops. Do regular coding jobs still exist or did AI btfo them all?
>>
>>107002458
Unironic great time to be a dev since there's heaps of vibe coded shit to clean up lol
>>
>>107002458
If you're a junior dev and you live in a first world country, you're pretty fucked. Big companies are offshoring, smaller ones are trying to replace through vibe coding.

If you're a junior dev in a third world country, it's still a pretty good time, as a lot of the megacorps are still expanding there.

If you're a senior dev/architect/in tech leadership in a first world country it's a mixed bag - the roles are there, but expansion is limited.

If you're senior in a third world country and haven't managed to use that as a ticket to move to a first world country, WTF are you doing?
>>
>>107002731
There's still plenty of opportunities for junior devs in first world countries. They just can't be picky about working on something hip or cool. Look into embedded work or automotive or something.

Obviously it's 'objectively' better, it's faster and more convenient to use. I think you're missing the point of why enthusiasts tend to gravitate towards older hardware/software that requires more out of the user.
>>
>>107003040
>what we have now is objectively better.
Not in my opinion. I would go back to hardware from 20 years ago if that meant internet and its users would also roll 20 years back and to be mostly Americans again.
Don't really care about modern hardware other than it's way cheaper and more accessible now.

Waiting 15 minutes to boot up the family Dell Optiplex workstation only to crash playing Half-Life 2 after an hour and having to reboot the entire desktop to fix it was nightmarish. I still get hardcore nostalgia for those days but I remember how much suffering I endured trying to game on a piece of shit desktop with a bargain bin GPU in it and I am glad things changed. If my childhood self could see my desktop boot in 5 seconds and run modern AAA games at 120FPS 4K with absolutely zero crashes in the past decade would probably die of a heart attack.

How do I make thumbnails bigger in file picker?
I use:
-Debian
-Cinnamon (Nemo file manager)
-Firefox
In a regular Nemo window I can change thumbnails size just fine if I am in icon view. But in file picker I cannot switch myself to icon view, it's always in list view. I tried to look for a solution but it seems it's impossible?

> The default GTK3 does not support this, and is a 21 year old bug:
>GTK4 supports it, but it's not been fully implemented across all things yet.
>For many programs that use the xdg-desktop-portal to choose the file picker, such as Firefox, you can try a GTK4 version of the file chooser, which will give you crappy non-customizable previews.. but at least it's better than the GTK3 version:
>>
Use Dolphin instead, it has dynamic thumbnails.
>>

>>
>>107002350
>Right click Open With File Manager

>>
>>107002350
Cinnamon's file picker (xdg-desktop-portal-xapp) is known for being trash, just like Gnome's. It can be a bit of a hassle, but if that really bothers you, the best option is to install another portal, like KDE's (xdg-desktop-portal-kde).

I just installed Mint on a fresh machine and noticed xdg-desktop-portal-xapp doesn't even follow Nemo's custom sorting method for each folder and it doesn't allow you to change the sorting method through the portal. It's so fucking ass. Literally the worst file picker in existence. Such a shame because I do like Cinnamon otherwise.

Frankly im quite happy having my OS and all important drivers on an isolated SSD while data and gaming are all on separate drives, keeps things simple and easy to fix if something goes wrong, i only lose 1 thing of import instead of 50+ other stuff i need aswell.

modern emissions regulations, specifically the wildly differing regulations for each country, plus the hype-trains for the latest vehicular gimmick-tech, has degraded the build quality and longevity of any car you buy by default.

My 2013 4cylinder Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, is naturally aspirated, and has a chain-link timing belt. It will outlast ANY car made in the last 5 years, by any manufacturer. Its over 10yo's now, and will last me another 10 with normal maintenance no problem at all.

Enclosures all the day.
An external SSD is a single entity, if it fails, it fails.
If the converter in the enclosure fails, your data is still fine.

do you fags realize SSD must be powered at least once per couple of years or it will start to lose data? External SSD means it will be stored somewhere and you will forget to use it

same thing happened to me Samsung Sata SSD, i booted the PC up after 8years of not using it and OS was so corrupted it did not booted
