YT-DLP is finally defeated by YouTube. It's now officially over.
Rest in piece.

Teams is not a well-written piece of software. It is not performant. It is not easy to use. The literal only thing it does okay is integrate into the rest of the microshit “ecosystem” (which is about as well-built as the Ganges its engineers worship) and enterprise plans are the only reason it has as many users as it does. Fuck no, at least not actively consuming content. If you're producing content, post it then leave. Social media hijacks your dopamine with endless variable-reward scrolls. Engineers from Stanford’s Persuasive Tech Lab literally design slot-machine loops to keep you hooked. They A/B test every pixel to maximize attention theft while you doomscroll perfect lives in 15-second bursts, triggering shame spirals. They're basically PSYOPs.

I'm stuck between Ubuntu/Gnome versions.

22 doesn't have working thumbnail pickers

24 and 25 removed a folder's Open with... VS Code option, and takes 3 more clicks. I do this enough for it to be annoying.

25.10 doesn't work with tiling shell and the default tiling is frustrating to use.

25.10 doesn't work well with wine (because of no x11?)

I might actually return to 22. It's the most comfy, requiring little to no tweaks.

I don't want to touch a different DEs because I know I'll find a bunch of other devils that are worse time sinks.

The first thing is provisioning your drives to ext4 or whatever filesystem you want. mint might do this for you already, idk. Good luck! You can liveboot (boot from usb in bootloader/bios/uefi, it’ll indicate whether you want to try or install) to test that everything is working (sound, networking, graphics) before you commit to a specific distro

Is there a list of applications on KDE that most users don't need and can be easily defined as bloat for me to remove? I want to clean my processes and drive a little, and frankly I fear removing things I don't understand fully.
For example Kmix doesn't even to work, it's that other audio interface that I can't seem to find the name for that's handling all the audio controls. Unless the system is running two instances of Kmix for some reason I reckon I'm better off uninstalling Kmix.

ITT discussions and evidence of the enshittification of technology.
The obvious example of yesterday's AWS outage is very in your face but I feel the normies have no idea things are getting worse until the AI (actually Indians) accidentally push some bad DNS configs and fuck up every service on the East coast.
But if they only knew about the things quietly breaking and getting worse over time.
Recently I've noticed Google maps giving increasingly braindead navigation instructions. Following them adds 10 minutes to the time estimate. Ignoring them and just taking the interstate has me arrive 5 minutes earlier.
A 15 minute differential on a 30 minute commute is wild. How bad do things need to get before they stop outsourcing literally everything?

There are items on the Steam workshop I want to try for some games, but it will take a while to really go through all the mods. I've already seen some disappear and this concerns me. It's like Nexus Mods all over, shit gets deleted and disappears.

Is there a more straightforward way to download them in advance to store locally?

I tried:
* disabling Intel Turbo Boost in BIOS.
* disabling boost mode Windows power options
* Removing XMP
* Updated NVIDIA drivers
* Disabled Steam overlay
* Set to native 4k resolution
* Set to 1080p
* Limited FPS to 60 in NVIDIA Control Panel
* Undervolted CPU
* Disabled Hyper-V
* Tried Vulkan, DX12, and DX11. (DX12 lasts longer before crashing)

Eric has failed us, he has literally one job, and that is to provide 25 puzzles, per year, on schedule. Now it's only a 12 day challenge, how can you even call that "advent" of code, which is supposed to count down to Christmas. I am outraged, and you should be too. What if Santa's elves just decided to stop making half the toys??? Ridiculous.

>Also, starting this year, there will be 12 days of puzzles each December.

>Why did the number of days per event change? It takes a ton of my free time every year to run Advent of Code, and building the puzzles accounts for the majority of that time. After keeping a consistent schedule for ten years(!), I needed a change. The puzzles still start on December 1st so that the day numbers make sense (Day 1 = Dec 1), and puzzles come out every day (ending mid-December).

Why have small tablets basically died out? 12 years ago we had stuff like the Nexus 7 and it was great.
Nowadays only Apple makes a decently usable small (8 inches or below) tablet, all Android ones have terrible displays and weak specs in general.

They peaked with the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0" in 2015.
>crisp 320ppi AMOLED HD display
>3GB RAM, which is still usable with most apps if you aren't into gaming (I recommend flashing LineageOS and buying the SM-T810 model)
>lightweight and thin, but has a battery that can be replaced fairly easily and cheap on eBay
>and speaking of cheap, you can buy one of these for 30-50 bucks used
I mean, if you're looking for something that can handle more graphically-intense apps or games, I wouldn't recommend this tablet. I don't know how well a 2015-era Snapdragon would handle with those.
But, if you're into using this for media like watching youtube, reading books, or web browsing, it's buttery smooth.
I've suggested this tablet for those who just want to use it for basic things and not spend so much, and it's OLED. (most small tablets today are LCD)

It's also difficult to seek at the beginning of a video, even in full screen, because near the beginning the controls disappear before the mouse is actually off the UI elements. They fucked up the design and never tested it.

i have the same problem with the volume bar on twitter videos
>every video is muted by default
>if you click the mute button it does nothing
>if you click it again it BLASTS FULL VOLUME
>player doesn't respect my browser-wide preference of defaulting video volume to 20%
>ideally you want to drag volume button up from a muted state to avoid going deaf
>hovering the button brings up the volume gutter for a split second
>moving your mouse to it makes it disappear because they made the button ROUND
>didn't even bother placing an invisible box behind it to extend its hover hitzone
>always end up misclicking and putting it at the wrong volume, because the damn gutter doesn't want to stay visible
>by the time it's at an acceptable volume the entire video has played through, missed all context, have to rewind
i had to write a userscript to push the gutter down a bit to make this shit actually usable
and editing their CSS is a BITCH i could _only_ manage to push it down a bit, and make the bar not round, not even the button, without destroying the layout for the entire site before losing my entire patience with this shit
