Have two laptops, one runs mint. Want to put something else on the other. pic related. Have used OpenBSD on VPS, liked it. Does it werx on desktop? Just use browser, GIMP, and terminal mostly.
>>107851802Unironically, put hackintosh.
I'm playing with openSD on an old low resource minitower (1gb RAM)It's pretty barebones but surprisingly snappy.xfce4 failed so I'll stick with fvwm for now but gimp3 ran fine and firefox is doing pretty well.I'm still figuring how to use customisation files like .xsession but the man pages are more readable than I've found for linux.I'll take any suggestions for what to look into to make it look better, is openbox any good?

>>107859548I don't know if it'll help you, but I just came across this blog about how you can customise the base system window manager CWM to do pretty cool things.https://antonyfb.com/blog/my-cwm-config.htmlI'm still looking to get more aquanted with these systems but it seems pretty flexible so I want to try out what I can if it means my incredibly constrained system is usable.
You don't need a new computer. Your COVID PC is good enough.
>>107850544thats a 15 year old junker anon, why did you even spend money putting together a jaguar system
I would like to replace my gtx1080 but every single new card i've tried had such annoying coil whine i ended up returning them.
>>107859171Not really. Windows 11 is worse for no good reason and doesn't run on an absolute shirload of hardware. You can buy laptops with mobile versions of the 4090 which can't run W11 because it doesn't have the right security module on the motherboard.
>>107850517>You don't need a new computerprove me wrong but 2023 7945HX3d+4090 close enough to 9955HX3d+5090.Why U still need to upgrade?

I am buying a Google Pixel 7a because my Samsung A03s doesn't work with voicemail and doesn't charge properly. What am I in for buying a Google Pixel 7a? What did I do wrong with my Samsung? Is Google Pixel 7a a good phone? I heard mixed things about Google Pixels being slow but other things about it being really useful. The one I am getting is octa-core and has 128 gigabytes.
Just factory reset your A03s and see if it fixes it>pixel 7aNigga if you're a jew with your money like I am just get a Moto G 2024 or 2025 for like 150 bucks. At least that shit comes with an SD card slot and headphone jack.

>>107857790doing this shit with CUDA and modern video cards is so simple that a rabies infected ape could produce the same thing in 15 minutes. are you fucking kidding me cunt? try doing it on a machine that has no shaders, cuda and the cpu is doing all the work on bitplanes. if you get started now you might have it done by the end of the year.

>be me>working at local county government as software dev about a decade ago>we have a jeet working on the team as well for unknown reasons>the jeet leaves and I'm assigned with modernizing an application he wrote, and converting it from PHP to C#>app is for tracking how the county commissioners vote on approving/rejecting contracts, should only need to track if they're approved, denied, or still pending a decision>instead of just counting if two of the three county commissioners have voted to appprove, he created the most convoluted calculation system I have ever seen>a vote to approve is 1, a vote to reject is 4, abstaining from a vote is 13, being absent for a vote is 40>if you were paying attention, each number is the previous number times 3 plus 1>jeet does this because he can uniquely identify what each vote is even after turning them into numbers>almost brilliant in a retard savant way, he found a way to not have to learn what an enum is>the PHP code then has the most complicated spider web of ifs and else ifs I've ever seen, calculating if the contract is approved or not>I turn his 1000+ line of nonsense into 12 lines of C#>mfwShare your horror stories, bonus points if they involve jeets shitting out unmaintainable spaghetti code
>>107859563Not that it makes it much better, but it's actually Angular. I think JavaScript frameworks are a necessary evil in web dev since they provide some barriers to keep retards caged in and less able to fuck shit up. To continue about that guy, for months I was fuming with his code and how it was bad, but the scrum master/full stack guy who was the one mostly delegating and keeping things on track hadn't yet experienced the horror. Eventually he started to be affected by it and understood my whining and they've made steps to try and get his code up to a higher standard. It's still not and I'm extra tough on his PRs, but it's better.
>>107798202im in an unclass lab, but it's cleared work where you need a TS and i actually have a jeet on my team believe it or not. he's about to get cut though because he wont shut the fuck up about AI and keeps playing on his phone when there's work to do. older guy, heavy accent, lived in india the whole first half of his life. they started talking about moving him off the team and he started rifling out his resume to random people who have no hiring say or any power whatsoever. keeps talking about connections he's making there. i'm his lead and i literally cant reign him in he's not manageable and he wont stop sperging. he has a chip on his shoulder about not being in a lead or architect position but there's no way he can communicate well enough to ever do that, especially in america.
>>107859434As a Millennial, I feel that Gen X, people 5 to 15 years older than me are the ones that really have the deepest understanding of the systems, actually.I agree that Zoomers grown on smartphones and apps have usually basically zero understanding of the whole system. Can be good juniors and be very good at developments with smaller scopes.

Should I get a PS/2 mouse and keyboard? The only advantage I've heard is that they will keep working regardless of drivers.
why the hell would you want to use ps2, it doesn't even support hotswap.
>>107854912It's the superior system. Any computer released after the ps/2 standard that didn't feature ps/2 ports is literal garbage designed by niggers.
>>107852353I mean, do PCs even have those ports anymore?
>>107852353PS/2 mouse is not necessary because it's not as low level as keyboard. processor does not understand mouse movementPS/2 keyboard on the other hands sends keystrokes directly to the processor and has extremely small delays

>>107860200>AI slop online doesn'tI just told you in this >>107859971 post that is does.
>>107860361you didn't say anything, you claim it does but there's no selection mechanism like in real life where chuds and trannies don't reproduce or die, but AI generated chuds and trannies can live forever
>>107860400>chuds and tranniesI see. So that's what this was about all this time.

You should close browser tabs when you're done with them. If you want to quickly get back to where you were, there is a separate technology for that: bookmarks.
>>107857865Maybe for retards low iq anons who put 10k tabs there every day and never do anything useful. I only save things I actually want to continue or see later and I remove them immediately after not needing them anymore. I have permanent used bookmarks including large folders of bookmarks I use everyday, then I put inside the "Other Bookmarks" that is a buffer I go through every day and delete after.
I have hundreds of tabs open on my phone from years ago because I'm a hoarder and I don't want to lose all the porn videos I like by forgetting about them in my thousands and thousands of bookmarks

>>107860508Supermium works fine but people often mumble that its kiked the same way as normal chromium, so I kinda stopped using it.
>>107860527Hence the portable, ungoogled switch suggestion. That and standard tweaks available from the settings panel get you down to literal zero spying or pointless homecalling. Not one unsolicited connection is ever established, much like in PaleMoon based browsers.I put it off for a while because of the aforementioned hijacking, but when operated correctly it's perfectly safe.
