Or,2. The claim is hype blown out of proportion by constant repetition and modification on social media, like Chinese whispers but dumber. install fault on HP 15-fd0083wmI downloaded and created my USB installer drive directly from the Elementary OS website. it works in live mode. when I try to "erase disk and install" it instantly faults and cannot install. id does this even after a clean format. after some searching I tried "custom install" option after using Gparted to format the drive and create partitions (512MB for FAT32 boot) and then the rest as ext4. then when I return to the installer and select "custom install" and select my partitions, the windows overlap in such a way I cannot see, select or confirm anything on the partitions. resizing the primary installer window does nothing. additionally, I only seem able to select the 512MB FAT32 partition, and have been unable to select the larger partition.apparently there is/are known issues with the installer on some computers. my craptop has an UFS SSD which is also probably an issue. something about recognition? I've read so much shit it's all starting to run together in my brain.I got Mint XFCE installed and running on it last night. that also took some finesse, again, I believe, because of the UFS. after several terminal entries in Live, i was able to get it running normally. despite that, I would prefer to run Elementary if at all possible. I have tried forums, GIThub threads and Grok to assess, diagnose and mitigate. still no joy. This is my second Linux install ever and I am not a "computer guy" by any stretch.this computer has a nearly identical origin story to the last one I posted aboot here. it was left behind when a tenant moved out of an apartment presumably because of a bad battery. I got a free battery from Amazon Vine, and was able to get it to boot. being that it is 8 years newer than my Stream 11-Y010, faster and more storage, in dont *need* to run the bare bones Mint XFCE. I would like something a bit more modern and stylish, ie: Elementary 8.1What say you Anon?
This piece of shit is always broken and it's not a fault but a feature
>>107851770>I would like something a bit more modern and stylishCinnamon or Budgie.
>>107852765>>107852765I know very little aboot Linux and all the distros. I know even less about the platforms that are used on/with all the various versions. one thing i have heard in passing is that Wayland is the way forward. I can't even say that i know what it is or what exatly that means, but I guess it matters. I *think* i have heard cinnamon supports it, does budgie?I am not into tinkering with my computers. I just want them to work and perform basic operations without excessive involvement & terminal coding from me. I honestly dont even know what all to the different distros do that justifies all the chatter, aversion & allegiance to one vs another. elementary was reccomended to me based on wife and I having 20 years of familiarity and comfort with Mac OS. I dont really know what questions I should be asking myself about what my needs & wants are in relation to guide me to an appropriate distro.before I switch tracks, of at all possible, I would like to just install and use Elementary 8.1 since I already have it on a USB drive. im not opposed to switching, but i would like to attempt to resolve the Elementary install problem first.

Zoomer here. I heard from my teacher today that phones used to have a slot like the sim card one where you could put in those digital camera memory sd cards in it. Why did no one complain when this happened?

>>107849114you underestimate how most people use their phones. when removable batteries were around, most people never changed them when they wore out, they just got a new phone. when sd card slots were around, most people never used them. if there was enough demand for these things then they'd still be available because the profit would outweigh the cost savings, but most people are not autistic tech dweebs
