There's no simple way to just select a certain part of whatever you're trying to crop; You need to create a shape and then apply it to the layer so that it only shows on the shape. So if you make the shape too big, the UI dots that you drag to stretch the crop will appear way too far from the image itself. Even Adobe Fresco, probably one of the most cheaply made drawing programs I've seen, it made cropping very easy, and that's a program made for drawing paint and oil style, not image manipulation. I dare even say that it has a better UI.
