READ THE (temp)WIKI! & help by contributing:
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Home_server

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

le sigh, now I know
luckily it's just like 4-5 people who use it so I should be able to switch over without too much hassle. Is Cloudflare still the recommendation if I'm already using their DNS?
>>
>>106503125
Personally I wouldn't put both eggs in cloudflare's basket. It's bad enough to let them control DNS for the entire domain. But if you're less paranoid, go ahead.
>>
>>106502924
nah, you're right. 99% of the time i just do exactly what i want and am sufficiently content. but in the 1% moments i think i want some kind of external expert validation to tell me whether or not what i'm doing is a good use of my time in terms of helping me get where i want to be - i'd happily burn my entire setup down and focus on some completely different tech path if someone convinced me it would be a guaranteed job for me at the end of it. unfortunately due to my introvert autist nature i don't have anyone like that so i'm mostly just sticking to what feels right.

It has nothing to do with censorship. Grok and local LLMs are uncensored and also dumb as fuck if not arguably dumber that Claude. It’s the problem of LLMs and our current tech not being good enough yet.
>>
>>106501644
The problem is the standard for intelligence (human intelligence) is based on an analog computer (brain).
A digital computer will never ever emulate that analog performance effectively. Even if you throw a bazillion cuda cores at it, it will never beat good old neuron analog.
>>
>>106501819
The problem is the architecture itself. Having blob on virtual neurons predict next token gets you only so far. Besides the transformer architecture is still nowhere near as good as human neurons. Scientists are working with stem cell grown human neuron clusters called organoids that have been proven to learn better then neural networks by requiring significantly less training data. And considering we are running out of training days for even slop generators (LLMs, video, images) that had the whole internet of data, and we have very little data for movement and working actual jobs, it means that there have to be several architectural breakthroughs before we get a model that could become AGI with enough compute.
>>
>>106502864
There won’t be architectural breakthroughs because that would sink the CUDA train, and every AI stock heavily invested in CUDA, which brings us back to the thread theme.
If anyone is gonna make that new arch, they’re going to have to come from outside the bubble.
And they’re going to have to be careful about it, given how much of a penchant OpenAI whistle blowers have of suiciding themselves.

It seems like re-builder can't handle grouping which diminishes its usefulness. I think you're better off iterating in `M-x ielm`. I hope I'm not being too hasty, but re-builder seems legitimately buggy or incomplete.

You can safely discard opinions of anyone that uses less bass than harman.
>>
Harman is based on a sample of around untrained 250 listeners, and about 50 of whom (20%) were literally niggers, which is an overrepresentation. But more importantly, why would you arbitrarily follow the Harman target when it's based solely on listener preference when we know listener preference varies wildly when you separate groups by gender, race, age, listening experience, etc. even according to Harman's own research? Women for example prefer less bass than Harman. As do older (30+ year old) men, trained listeners, and just the average white listener.

No it's fucking not. When I watch a movie, I expect songs within to have the expected key and BPM. Any deviation makes it unwatchable.
There's no need for pulldown on 60*2Hz displays either, so it worked out perfectly in the end.

60 is objectively a better number than 50. The only reason you would think otherwise is due to internalized base-10 supremacy. Sumerians are rolling in their graves as their descendants decided to cave in to their new Hindu-Arabic overlords.
>>

Maybe in whatever shithole you live in. Me and everyone else here has three phases to their house. I've even got a three phase outlet in my garage. With EVs getting more common having that available is pretty useful. Even without EVs stoves benefit greatly from having it available.

My field is nothing special (basically near eastern studies), and the wikipedia articles are often outdated with very old information or written by people that aren't even trying to be academic (sometimes they're literally just apologetics lmao).

The purpose of TOS is to give the corp a justification to tell users to knock it off, and "it" will be defined as broadly as possible. Whether they actually do that or not is another matter.
