In 8 years, OpenAI will use 50% of the US's total electricity generate.

This isn't factoring the amount of GPUs they'd be purchasing, nor the fresh clean water they'd need to cool the GPUs powering their data centers.

USA's electricity generation has stagnated for the past 30 years despite a rise in population.

How much do you imagine your electricity bill to be by 2033?

For me it's Big Sur;
Modern enough for the software to work good
Has more software than linux
Can be installed on ancient mac from 2013-15
Has universal time machine backup so can be restored on any new mac from 2013-20
Has bootcamp for windows 10

God, linux sucks

Gemini won. Massive headstart on video generation, more hardware adoption as Apple are giving up on their own AI system and integrating Gemini instead giving them an effective monopoly on smartphones and tablets, and now they're coming to steal Claude's lunch too.
It started out as a total joke only to leapfrog over everyone else. I'm almost impressed.
>>
>>107806871
Grok and Claude are the best of the public AI for now but I think the long term winner will be mini racks of Big Fucking VRAM Workstations (FrameWork, Mac Studio, etc.) as Exo clusters since once you hit four figure AI bills (or just don't trust the Leviathan with your data) it'll win on cost.

I don't like to configure it all that much so I just use nvim (lazyvim) instead. I do use plain vim to deal with config files sometimes when I feel like any highlighting would be unnecessary.

I consider this an advantage, and moved over from neovim because I didn't like the config-breaking updates and the complexity of LUA configuration, even without plugins.
Now I have a simple, well-documented vimrc that I haven't meaningfully changed in a year, and it will just werk with basically any unix-like OS currently in use.

honestly just slightly different SKUs of xbo controllers vary wildly in quality. I bought two, both used but intended for padhacking so I took both apart eventually -- one had a normal cross D-Pad which was dogshit, silicone domes, and the sticks were rubbish. then i got an "elite" one later and the dpad is a roundrel with metal bubble switches, the sticks were a different model, and the general build quality was a lot higher on the shell and how the boards were constructed. even between them, the basic shitty xbo controller is one board with standoffs/spacers where the housing demands it, the xb elite controller had daughter boards. crazy stuff for what looks nad feels pretty similar on the outside.

I’ve been lurking for a decade, but I have something worth sharing.

I’m a physicist (Rice Space Physics) working on my own framework called Axiomatic Physical Homeostasis (APH), which models how Earth’s magnetosphere "relaxes" into stable shapes after solar storms.

It occurred to me that Monte Carlo Path Tracing is doing it the hard way treating light like individual particles bouncing around. In plasma physics, we treat the field as a Stressed Fluid. I define a Geometric Stiffness (beta) for the vacuum and let it relax.

The Experiment:

- Seed: Shoot <1 ray per pixel (extremely noisy/stressed state).
- Relax: Run a matrix multiplication on Tensor Cores minimizing the Geometric Stress of the light field.

The Result:

The light field snaps into the correct global illumination almost instantly. It preserves temporal inertia (no noise when moving the camera) because the field has mass.

>>
>>107809667
Your paper doesn't explain how global illumination can result from a single ray (not path) sample per pixel (or 4x4 pixel block). The initial sampling is an information bottleneck that no postprocessing can overcome even in theory, very significant even for direct lighting from emissive surfaces. You can't get something out of nothing.

Useful archiving efforts and other projects to help out with for people new to and interested in archiving:

HIGH priority (If you don't help archive these automatically, the data will probably be lost forever):

1. http://warrior.archiveteam.org/
Help out automatically archive things being shut down right now by running ArchiveTeam Warrior program (or specific containers) in the background
Requirements: Few GB of space, some bandwidth and small amount of CPU power, more info: https://wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/ArchiveTeam_Warrior

If you learn that a site or any online data is in danger of shutting down, read through this page and contact ArchiveTeam on their IRC if required in order to have it archived: https://wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/Projects

2. Help out automatically forward URLs you browse that are not archived on https://archive.org to them for archival with a browser extension
