How come Netflix, Apple, OpenAI, or Meta use it in their stack huh? Will Zig be remembered the same way we remember Ruby when it was Ruby vs Python after Python won the race for being able to scale better?

For this distro, it quite literally is just plug and play. Buy an SSD and install MX Linux. I don’t know why, but Linux Mint Xfce felt slow compared to MX Linux, and I have a Celeron processor for that computer. Maybe a systemd thing

I have Arch with i3 as my window manager, doing fine as a collegefag with 8gb's of RAM (DDR4). I also have a used Acer (Aspire 3) that wouldn't even boot properly with Windows, you had to reboot the damn thing like 3 times before it would start normally. After I got Arch on it, it would crash sometimes and I didn't know why. Checked the logs and found nothing. Then one day a firmware update for the AMD processor and integrated graphics came and the crashing stopped.

Try to find another stick of DDR3 if you can. I also had XFCE in the beginning, but switched to i3 because I liked how it would split the screen into 2 equal windows automatically. This shit by itself is so useful for me.
Try i3, maybe you'll like it. Or if you're on Wayland, get Sway or whatever other tiling window manager. I have no need for fancy animations so I'm sticking with i3.
Be aware that i3 does require some tinkering, but their site has good documentation. In essence, you will just have to edit the i3 configuration file if you want to use it.

Best of luck and don't remove your installation medium until the OS is installed.

Ronald Whyte was the federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California who handled much of the Sun vs. Microsoft dispute over Java in the late 1990s.

He issued a preliminary injunction in 1998 that ordered Microsoft to stop distributing versions of its Windows‑specific Java that failed Sun’s compatibility tests.

Whyte’s rulings were key in forcing Microsoft to back away from “polluted” Java extensions and comply with the original Java licensing terms.

Also as far as I know he works at a quant firm. No way you're getting in there with his shitty online coding bootcamp. They're one of the most prestige focused places in the world.

They're super heavy on credentialism. In my experience they only hire people from brandname top universities, people with top tier companies on their resume, and senior people (5-10 years of experience, more latter) who have demonstrable experience in some technology they need.

every time i have to install a flatpak version of an app it doesn't work properly because its permissions are all fucked up then i have to try to fix it myself in flatseal. it's not like android/iOS where the app has to explicitly ask for permissions as they're needed. apps can just decide what permissions they have when they're installed with zero confirmation from the user, which makes the whole permissions system heavily error-prone for developers and pretty much useless for users.

it's like they saw what mobile operating systems were doing and tried to copy them while completely missing the point. flatpak has all the downsides of sandboxing but none of the benefits.

>>

I wouldn't call them 'dumb' anon. They've just been inundated with corporate ecosystem slop most of their lives. Ease them in first, and they'll eventually learn more.
>>
Use them and like them.
They are easy and they work.

What >>107812200 says is true though.
The current setup is just a tiny bit retarded.
Apps can just ship with every permission and you wouldnt even notice.

The majority ship with sane defaults. The only issue is with anything that uses your filesystem outside of the sandbox.
They either give full /home access, or you need to specify the folder.
It would be great if the application could ask for permission like on android, but no idea how that could even be implemented.

Why hasn't AI content gotten the ad disclosure treatment? IE "This content is or contains AI created media" just like we have "Ad" ""Sponsored" etc. AI is 100x more dangerous without disclosure but we chillin. Pic Unrelated

No, the difference with sponsored content is whether any "advice/recommendations" given are based on personal opinion or paid advertisement. Advertising is allowed to blatantly lie (for some reason) with no repercussions

i learned about it recently and it seems quite cool, but i don't even know if i would need it. i'm not a researcher or a writer, i just have a very overactive internal monologue (sometimes i can kinda space out and live in my head) and i want to be able to form a personal "knowledge base" to organize my interests/values/things ive learned/even just things i need to do.

what do you use it for? or is it just one of those things where people use it for a week and then forget about it forever?

Okay, they have github, but where's the application source code?

> google "obsidian source code"

Wait, what?! What's the point of making such simple application proprietary and unfree? Guess they are hiding something nasty. Whew, that was close call, good thing I am so vigilant!

At first I thought I had a stalker, now I realize some Italian homosexual ex cop, now Mafia got his buddys together and broke into my appartment and stole all my data, porn, game saves, document, banking details.
I am learning from this and have done courses on cyber security. My firewall is impenetrable and I cant be tracked since I use a good VPN. He has literally stalked me to hotels, but I have tricked him with modifying my android devices aswell. Now I suspect he wants to take my laptop since for the last 4 years I have only been using that. I am planing to hardware encrypt it, hence why Im asking.
