Pistol related but last question thread died a while ago. Are all 1911 .45 barrels interchangeable with all other 1911 models? I've got a Kimber and want a threaded barrel for it and I'm wondering if I should just get a Kimber barrel for it.
So I want a handstop but I was wondering is buying these airsoft versions a good alternative compared to the more expensive ones by major firearm companies?plastic is plastic right?
>>64703801you ideally want the right TYPE of plastic. not gonna melt/become brittle in a year and snap off the rail/actually fits the hole in the first place. for 7$ though.. its not like its a life or death issue if they break or whatever on your rifle. ive seen plenty of PLA+ 3D printed VFG's/handstops and even printed them myself. good enough for fun/hunting but im not gonna take it to war.
How much quieter is suppressed 5.56 from a bolt action compared to an AR?
>>64703983There's an additional click-clack by your head in an AR, but that sound is only about 115dB iirc. There is port pop but a suppressed muzzle report is still 135+dB so port pop is negligible compared to that, and I think I recall from old suppressor testing videos that the supersonic crack from a 5.56 bullet is is ~140dB* so that would be the baseline in both cases, even though they "feel" and sound different enough to notice in person*yes I know AI has a different answer now, but "80-100dB" is obviously incorrect, a suppressed supersonic .22 crack is louder than that 100y from the shooter and that's barely supersonictl;dr It's noticeably quieter "to the ear" but not really elsewhere, or enough to matter
>>64704023Oh heck yeah I found it. .308 supersonic crack is just under 140dB, so still louder than a suppressed muzzle blast. And interestingly you can see that transient area from 1,100 to 1,300 fps where volume hasn't yet topped out--that's where supersonic .22 resideshttp://guns.connect.fi/rs/bulnoise.html

Why was the Longbow in use for literally 300 years when it simply could not penetrate armor? I have watched several experiments with modern reproductions and never once has it achieved penetration of plate armor. In this latest one they can't even pen at point-blank range a late medieval brigandine and cheap Sallet helmet which was worn by poorfag troops. Rich nobles wore high-end bespoke plate made from tempered steel with every surface calculated to deflect blows and it would have zero chance against that. The amount of training that went into using the bow doesn't seem worth the results.https://youtu.be/SFFgcTzCvMo
>meanwhile at Patay
>>64699879>>64699835Oh but maybe that's not enough, how about the Battle of Formigny, we see the French are on the scene with a vast number of cavalry! Here, finally, we'll see the crushing superiority of plate armor end the reign of terror of the longbow!Again, we do not. Once more the French employ cannons outside the range of the English longbowmen. The English have no choice but to deal with the cannons. They commit to the attack and charge the cannons rather than be picked off at range. They are actually successful in the attempt, though at heavy cost they take the enemy guns and are bringing them back to their lines when French reinforcements with Breton cavalry arrive from the other direction. The English attempt to redeploy their forces rather than be enveloped, but are unsuccessful. While the Breton cavalry were instrumental to victory, there was no charge into pelting arrow fire, instead the archers are killed as they try to take the cannons back to their own lines. The French scouted the enemy positions and did not commit to hopeless head on assaults, instead catching them where they were weakest as they redeployed. The cavalry were used strategically to overwhelm the English men at arms and secure advantageous positions, denying them to the English.Plate armor. Had. Nothing. To. Do. With. It. Every French victory was because they did not act like colossal retards. They already had plate armor at Agincourt, and lost, because they were total retards. There was less plate armor at Bauge, where they were successful by not being retards.
>>64699294>The frog fears the redcoat
Slings would negate plate armour in more practice ways, why not use them at the start of the 300 years and never use the long bow. >Well because the French would have raped themWood is cheap, Feather is Cheap, Iron is expensive but you're not losing too much per arrow.Shooting arrows distances gives you advantages and disadvantages but compared to what they had at the start of the 300 years. It was just a worth investment. >why build Lebel, just stay with black powder until self loading rifles with box magazines are common dudeYeah that's not how progress works. and just like the Lebel, often if you revolutionize greatness, you're stuck with it for a while.
>>64684834Rate of fire mainly, and even if you can't get consistent kill shots, arrow volleys slow people down and break up formations.
