Writefag here, I’m looking for real “out there” firearms that are advanced looking but not too impractical for my sci-fi setting.
>>64759869That's because you're getting the cumulative recoil of 3 rounds at once.
>>64759869See >>64758823, the point of the design was that it doesn't kick until AFTER the 3 round burst is out of the rifle. Recoil doesn't matter much at that point and can be trained around because you're still landing your burst exactly where you aimed really easily.

You have a moderately sized military force and you have to deal with several hundred of these things. Here’s what you gotta remember about them:>Nearly immortal, body can be damaged but the only thing that can kill them is fire>sever a limb and it will keep coming after you >burning them isn’t advised because the gasses inside will reanimate any corpses around them, including animals >They do feel pain, from injury and their rotting bodies>eating brains relieves said pain>they’re very smart, able to fake calls for backup and set up ambushes>speed depends on the state of decay, fresher corpses run like a human>nuking them would kill them, but it would spread the trioxin gas further and make a bigger outbreak in the endWell, /k/? You gotta get creative with this one.

Any anons here ever been to ShootSmart? Its pretty much the only range I hear about in DFW, but they seem extremely expensive: Their prices put me off but their also the closest range to my neighborhood so their convenient...Would you say if I shoot at the minimum 2-3 times a month that a membership would be worth it? How much money would I realistically save? If you get their most expensive membership you get to shoot at the lanes for free and get a free FFL, which is tempting but I'm not sure if its worth it bros...their normal prices are as follows>Public Shooting Lane: $17>Private Shooting Lane: $32>FFL: $45And that's not even counting everything else. Like I've seen Holosun Sights easily going for $400+ there. I think that they upcharge everything to get you to buy a membership, which is pretty scummy, but I am tempted I'm ngl.
>>64757756>lived in the Democratic People's Republic of Coloradostan for 5 years>$40k/yr raise moving to the State of the Red People I miss going to the national forests to shoot for free at hundreds of yards, but it'd be pretty dumb for me to not move and buy a range membership, even if I have to be surrounded by casinos now. Good luck OP, DFW seems like a pretty bad place to live for gun people, laws aside
>>64758860Lol
>>64757503What side of town are you in?
>>64757503So, I have done this math before. If you are able to get either free or discounted FFL transfer fees, some amount of low cost or free range usage and discounts on some ammo at the range I think it would be worth it. That means you can easily just drop in any time of the day or week, work in about 10-20 magazines if you pre load them and then be on your merry way. That would for me be worth roughly 150-200 a month just in time savings. Now ymmv with whatever ranges are around you but that would be what makes the range reasonable for me.
>>64757503Hi fellow DFWanon. Have you considered RangeUSA at all? There’s a few in the metroplex. I pay 50 a month for a membership there. Free rentals, discounts on everything, free range time, and a free guest. Range Jannies like my patches. That being said there’s the Elm Fork shooting sports area if you’re willing to drive to something actually decent
Why wouldn't something like pic related work fine as a "do everything" gun for a person living in the densely forested hills of Appalachia, where the power and ballistic advantage of a rifle simply isn't necessary?>plinking will be good fun with the naturally subsonic .45>definitely suitable for home defense>easy enough to fit in a backpack, or take the can off and carry it on your person>get some .45 Super for killing deer or hogs, or mess around with round ball loadings for taking small game or for pest controlYes, it's true that rifles can be had for dirt cheap these days. And it's also true that there is no real reason to limit yourself to just one gun, especially a handgun. But in an autistic min-max fantasy where you literally can only own one gun and it has to be able to be carried 24/7/365, does a suppressed .45 automatic make sense? The only real downside I see here is that this is not the best option for summertime concealed carry in hot climates.

What tools for self defense would you recommend for someone in Europe to have when shit goes down. There are black powder revolvers shotguns and rifles, but you can't buy them everywhere in Europe. There are crossbows and bows but what is really their capacity to defend, and of course air rifles, in some countries they are unrestricted in some countries they are cucked and they are a hassle to have around in the case of an emergency. Better yet what should everybody own, not just weapons, in case they want to survive more than 72 hours.
>>64746392The problem is "in Europe" is like saying "in North America", it's not the same thing if you are in Romania, France, Finland, Serbia or Spain. In many countries of Europe, getting a license take time, but grant you access to many regulars calibers, .357, 38, 9mm, 45, 44.In countries like France, Finland, Italy, Czechia, Switzerland, Bosnia, it even allows access to semi-auto rifles in their respective calibers, so authentic AR-15, AKM, FAL, whatever, as long it's not surplus because they fear you may try to put back the full-auto mode with illegal imports. So honestly, if you're not a felon, get a license. You will soon have to worry more about the budget than the guns you can buy.An old pic, but here's my collection in France after 2 years of legal licensing. I had to step back a bit because my wallet could not handle it.Remember: if shtf, they suppose to come and get the guns back, but they will not be able to. Ask Belfast how much grab worked when they tried during the Troubles. However, there indeed some countries with terribles gun laws, UE or not. I'm thinking of UK outside NI, Romania, and oddly enough, Russia. Bizarre bans, very long waiting time, impossible to get a license in some places. In this case, if you don't go illegal, turn to non-firearm weapons.
>>64759568Very based anon, I'm glad you have a nice collection of cool guns.
>>64746392prepping requires food and emergency supplies, not 5 slight variations of the semi-automatic rifle that wasted money better spent on food and emergency supplies
>>64746392besides other items or weapons an accurate pellet gun with higher energy suitable for very small animals like rats or birds should be in the inventory.
the first question should be what you are prepping for.in any case the best thing you can do is gtfo from urban areas, find some small town of about 1-2k people in a sparsely populated area.you'll have just about every service and skill set you'd need to survives long term, a small enough community to not turn apes hit straight away and large enough for local authority to keep some semblance of control.also there's food production in rural areas that will keep you fed for at least the first year.if you are in a rural area, start a garden, get some chickens and rabbits, get a hunting license and some hunting rifles/shotguns.get to know the locals, your neigbours, the local doctor and vet, some other hunters, some farmers (just ask if you can shoot rabbits on their fields, they tend to love free pest control).if SHTF you are playing on easy mode.if S doesn't HTF you have a good fulfilling life>I can't afford thatif you go past an hour from a major population center land and homes become dirt cheap.those areas also tend to be older and in need of care givers. so retrain as a nurse, there's programs to fund your retraining everywhere across Western Europe. you'll also pick up some useful first aid skills.there's towns and villages half an hour from Strasbourg where 50k will buy you a home with a yard and barn.
How are Norden submarines so stealthy?
>>64759465The exercise would be pointless if the surface commander were to issue a directive stating "German sub entering search area from S-SW". The idea is to detect it starting from a completely unknown position. In an actual combat situation, the enemy won't be courteous enough to announce their approach vector.
>>64759625Sure. But the nature of exercises gives submarines, and specifically diesel submarines, a huge advantage. This goes double for international exercises where you might not want to show every card in your hand, even to allies
>>64759635That's because those types of exercises are intended to replicate a surface action group or carrier battlegroup operating closer to the coast, where SSKs might be lurking. So some provision is given to the diesel boat, in order to actually reach the staging point.
>>64759635The old type 206 doesn’t have much endurance in them, being traditional diesel electric, so their chance of catching a CSG in the open ocean, or even anywhere that isn’t right off the coast is slim. That said, an exercise like this is still valuable, since the modern DE with AIP engine will likely be much faster with longer endurance overall, so you can’t rely on the same trick of waiting until the sub battery is fully exhausted, as the case with older DE anymore
>>64759322Shhh there’s no room for nuance in 2001 + 25, just shit flinging
Wait, so .380 is quite literally all you need?
Proverbially as well.
>>64757664No. .380 is roughly equivalent to .38 Special, which beat cops figured out was NOT enuff back in, like, the 30s. Their solution was .357 Magnum, which in theory IS quite literally all you need, except putting a rimmed cartridge in an automatic makes engineers cry tears of liquid dimethylmercury. 9mm and .38 Super (basically the same thing) are close enuff when you factor in rapid fire out of an automatic plus big magazine.

>>64756634.35 rem is like 120 years old and you can get a henry 336 in .35 rem (I think it's only in the all brass receiver though).marlin made 336s in .35 rem since like the 50s or something. it's been a meme for a while. marlin guns also just look better than Henry guns. for some reason henry just makes the ugliest guns known to man. the only Henry gun that looks nice is the engraved? wildlife model that's only in .30-30 with the gold deer or .45-70 with the elk and bear and even then the stock on the .30-30 looks worse than a marlin 336 stock.
>>64756670>the only Henry gun that looks nice is the engraved? The one I saw is not engraveed, it's a "fancy" rcvr cover with roll embossing, that adds bulk and rattles. Not worth the price and looks gaudy.
